Today’s goal is 150 push ups to represent 2 cups (150g) of colourful veggies and 2 serves of colourful fruit linked to improved mood. . . . Sooo many food mood studies show the links between plant slant or Mediterranean style diets reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety. . . . Part of this is the amazing array of vitamins and minerals as well as phytonutrients involved in making happy hormones like seratonin. Also the combined the role of slow release carbs/sugars, insulin and the protein tryptophan in creating serotonin and we’re also starting to better understand the enormous role our gut plays in our health. So fibre from these powerful plant foods is fuelling our gut, which sends signals to our brain too! . . . Mental illness is no exception. Studies have shown that following a Mediterranean-style or plant slanted diet seem to help prevent depression, and possibly help treat it too. . . Mediterranean diets have high levels of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, and the omega fatty acids (found in seafoods like algae/seaweed and also chia +flaxseeds and hemp seeds) .
