23.01.2022 ~STUDIO OPENING UPDATES~ Thank you so much everyone for your interest, enthusiasm and support of Green Monday Studios - we can't wait to be moving and creating with you! You may be aware that the roof of our beloved building blew off in wild weather in February 2019. Although repairs have come a long way since this photo was taken, there's unfortunately quite a bit of work still to go. As a result, the time frame for our studio opening is still dependent on other time frames ...(of insurers, builders, etc.), and although we've been working tirelessly behind the scenes, the situation is sadly and frustratingly beyond our control. There have been some very rich learning opportunities around patience and perseverance over the last 8 months! But these challenges have only made us more determined, and more excited about finally realising our vision. By the time the building works are finished, we imagine Green Monday Studios will have the sturdiest roof and quite possibly two of the most resilient studio owners in Carlton! At this stage we anticipate we’ll be opening fully by February 2020. But as each of our studio spaces is finished over the coming months, we hope we’ll be able to welcome you to a few workshops, class tasters and special events between now and then... Stay tuned! Much love, Albee and Meah xx

15.01.2022 How do yoga, movement, music and visual art practices intersect? We believe they are unique yet related ways to connect with and embody our creativity and self-expression. Each one offers endless possibilities in itself, but what excites us most are the discoveries and magic they can bring to each other. We can’t wait to explore these varied offerings with you at our studio. .... . 09.01.2022 New beginnings. Regeneration. Transformation. ~ With two distinct phases in its lifecycle, and a spectacular metamorphosis in between, the cicada is a universal symbol of renewal. ~ Cyclochila Australasiae - familiar to us as the Greengrocer cicada, but historically known as the ‘Green Monday' - is a species of cicada that spends up to seven years underground before emerging into the world above. When it does, it makes its presence known with one of the loudest calls in t...he insect kingdom. Found in Carlton, and the greater Melbourne / Naarm area, the Green Monday uses its powerful call to connect with its fellows, whose collective response becomes the soundscape of warm evenings. A childhood spent in the presence of that chorus becomes an adulthood imbued with nostalgia for the place that generated it. ~ We - Meah and Albee - know that nostalgia well. ~ From the ages of 6 months and 4 years respectively, we both attended, studied and then taught at Mangala Studios of Yoga and Creative Dance at 73 Grattan Street, Carlton, until the studio ended its 48-year lease of the building in 2018. ~ At that time of transition, we were honoured to have the opportunity to take over the lease and continue a legacy of yoga and dance in this significant space. We felt that the metamorphosis warranted giving the site a meaningful name. One that honoured history, while celebrating transformation. With its powers of change, and its connection to place, the Green Monday cicada emerged as the perfect symbol for this next chapter in the building’s story. In taking on it’s name we have also incorporated seven circular dots into our logo, referencing the shape of the holes left by the Green Monday as it emerges from the earth, the seven stages of its life cycle, and the seven years it spends underground before rising and taking flight. ~ Our intention for Green Monday Studios is to create a new home for transformative yoga, movement, and art practices. As stewards of a space that has known great changes in shape and energy, we want Green Monday to be a hub of harmony, dynamism, and community - a place for flow in a world in flux. ~ Thank you for being a part of its story.
