24.01.2022 The Walkaway Station Museum recently gave us this poster from the Greenough Wildlife & Bird Park. Can you remember when telephone numbers increased from 6 to 8?

24.01.2022 "Amangu Man #1", painting given as a Museum's 50th Birthday gift in 2016 by the artist Anthea da Silva. This painting is displayed in the Greenough Room as part of our acknowledgement of Aboriginal history in this region.

23.01.2022 At Anzac Day we recognise the contributions and sacrifice of those who had served. This year we would like to acknowledge the late Ron Bradfield 535872 Major (Rtd) Officer Commanding A Coy, 16 Bn RWAR. In times of trouble he was a valued defender of this museum. He also donated this Geraldton Honor Roll. The museum will be closed Anzac Day, but will be open for the Monday holiday from 8.30am till 3.00pm.

23.01.2022 Thank you North Midlands Project for donating this panel about the bushranger Frank Thomas who was born at Greenough in 1896. The panel also displays the principles of Act-Belong- Commit, which is of importance to all of us.

22.01.2022 There is always something different to discover when you visit this museum. We are open today until 3.00pm. Only $7 adults, $5 concession card holders and best of all - children are free.

22.01.2022 There has been lately some confusion about when this museum is open. We are now open Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8.30am till 3.00pm. We are closed Monday and Friday. Museum admission fees remain the same - $7 adults, $5 concession card holders and for groups of 6 or more, with accompanied children free. Can you please share this advice with friends and family?

21.01.2022 We have a new display in the Community Hub - "The Home Gardener". Whilst Greenough is sometimes a challenging environment to maintain a garden; the growing of fruit, vegetables and flowers has always been part of our lifestyle. We are looking to expand our collection of old and unusual garden tools and other gardening memorabilia.

21.01.2022 How times have changed. Who can remember when vehicle licenses arrived in the mail and had to be stuck to the lower left hand side of the windscreen (after carefully scraping off last year's sticker)? This is one of two unused 1979 license stickers recently donated to the museum.

21.01.2022 We are always looking for more people to volunteer at this museum.

21.01.2022 Today we remember Irwin Munro Whitfield, the only grandson of John Stephen Maley to be killed whilst fighting in WW1. The only son of Edward and Amy Whitfield; Irwin was only 20 years old when he enlisted in the 10th Light Horse. He served at Gallipoli, and was killed in Syria on 3rd May 1918. He is buried in the Damascus Military Cemetery. Pictured are 4 photos he sent to his sisters Claudia and Polly.... The poppies were made by the Greenough Craft Ladies. See more

20.01.2022 Even though the sun may be hiding today, the sunflowers are opening in the veggie garden. Museum is also open until 3.00pm.

19.01.2022 100 and still going strong. This gum tree was planted by Colin Kennedy Maley c1920 in the south-east corner of the garden. Following Colin's death in 2005, his family spread his ashes at the base of his tree.

17.01.2022 75 years ago today, the Second World War ended. We remember with gratitude the men and women who served, and who sacrificed their lives. This photo is from the Morrell collection. It's wonderful when the people depicted are identified on the back. But where was the photo taken, what was the occasion and from which unit of the military are these men in?... Were they able to participate in the celebrations that took place on this day? Can you provide any further information? See more

16.01.2022 We like to think about our organisation as an Eco-museum, so it is wonderful to be able to see this motorbike frog in the garden (along with other varieties of reptiles, insects and birds).

16.01.2022 We are thankful today that Brasher did continue to put pen to paper. You can read more from Brasher's Diaries in the Maley Room here. We are open today.

Back - Solomon Shenton, Charles Crowther, Frederick William, Albert Edward & Henry Kennedy. Front - Septimus Frank, Arthur Roy, John Stephen & John Morrison. Missing from the photo is his oldest son George who died in 1879, and his daughters Hannah, Martha Mary, Amy, Ada & Grace Alma Kniest (and of course, his long suffering wife, Elizabeth).... 15.01.2022 We are always looking to add photos of Greenough to the collection, even from the recent past. They are reflections of how this area is changing. Who remembers the cypress tree that once grew in front of Mill Farm? It was planted by Gladstone Clinch in 1923. When did it die? This photo was taken in 1998. There was also a similar tree just to the south of what is now the cafe at Central Greenough. When was that removed?

14.01.2022 Another recent donation - a cart number plate from the Greenough Roads Board. Does anyone have one with a lower number?

14.01.2022 Hopefully your day is better than Little Franks. It is a wonderful day to visit the museum. We are open until 3.00pm.

12.01.2022 This museum was opened on 4th September 1966. We don't have much memorabilia from that time, so thank the Walkaway Station Museum for donating this poster. Since then this museum has undergone several name changes, but still remains a popular place to visit. Admission prices have also increased, though happy to say that children are still admitted free. Opening times have also changed. We are now closed Mondays and Fridays.... If it has been some years since you last visited, come and have another look, you will be pleasantly surprised. See more

11.01.2022 What a glorious day to be outside! Come visit the museum and relax in our gardens on this bench made by MEEDAC, with cushions provided by Margaret. Tess certainly knows the best place to be.

11.01.2022 The 58th object to enter the museum collection this year is this c1870 tilt-top table. It was made at Greenough by Frederick Pead. The next owner was his daughter Caroline who married Robert Quinn at Greenough in 1886. It then passed on to their daughter Mary Alice who gave it to her daughter Violet. When Violet moved into a retirement home the table was given to a distant cousin, Carol Childers. Following Carol's death in 2009, the table became the property of her mother Joy Clinch. This beautifully made and well provenanced table is a fantastic addition to the collection.
