25.01.2022 With summer here and this weekend promising to be a stinker, here’s a breathing practice you may find useful to help cool you down. I taught this practice in my Beginner/General classes as well as Prenatal classes. It really does work. Thank you Mark, Qi Yoga for this timely reminder. https://youtu.be/_ilOUQMOkYg

25.01.2022 Practice to remember. Remembering away from your practice can be challenging.

24.01.2022 Wishing you all a Happy New Year. May 2020 bring Health, Happiness, Love and Laughter. Lets hope for rain, an end to the bushfires, and relief for our exhausted firefighters and affected communities.

I am meeting with the other Community Centre board members tomorrow, to discuss the COVID-19 issues and how this may impact us. With the second confirmed case on the Central Coast announced today, it may only be a matter of time before the Centre is closed and classes cancelled.

21.01.2022 Yoga should be more than just a focus on the asanas (physical practice) I hope we, in the West, return to the full beauty of Yoga and its vast offerings https://youtu.be/u6U5KMdNUsk

19.01.2022 I was once criticised for not being a perfect yoga teacher, after having to ask a student to demonstrate a couple of poses for me, due to a bulging disc flare

17.01.2022 How often do you stop and pause during your Yoga class to feel and reflect? How often do you give yourself a long Savasana at the end? so often classes are... all about striking and perfecting the pose, and moving quickly from one thing to the next without time to think or even take a full breath out! We are often sold Yoga as exercise today - that we do yoga to lose weight, get a toned belly and get fit! While Im sure all those things are possible and useful in some cases for sure, I also feel they are missing the point Yoga is a form of exercise yes, but its also a form of MEDICINE. Each shape, each breathing technique, each moment we practice has a different effect on us. And those effects are not just physical, but emotional, mental, energetic - our entire being. Yoga is pretty powerful fairy dust which can have a lifelong influence But, if we just go through the motions, concerned only with perfecting the shape and stroking our ego, we will not get these benefits. Well maybe some will creep in anyway, because thats Yoga for you, but they probably wont hang around for long So, next time you practice, stop worrying about what you look like. Slow down and pause often to feel whats happening with each pose. Consider the importance of what you are doing. The value and the therapeutic benefits of your practice. And please dont skip over Savasana. Thats where the integration of all the work we have done happens and all the lessons are absorbed, so we can take our yoga with us after we get off the chair or mat Who knows, maybe as you pause, and as you are lying there at the end of your practice you will even be able to feel the magic fairy dust taking effect within See more

14.01.2022 As ANZAC Day services are cancelled this year, perhaps consider paying your respects this way

14.01.2022 A very interesting discussion. Interesting that Ive been teaching the new yoga for quite a few years now

13.01.2022 Taking an hour, or an hour and a half, out of each week for yourself is not selfish. Care for yourself first, so that you can continue to care for others.

13.01.2022 Each time you open a door today, use it as a reminder to Breathe

13.01.2022 As per advice from Yoga Australia and government recommendations, and after careful consideration, all classes are suspended until further notice due to COVID-19 ** Community Health First **

12.01.2022 These are indeed challenging times, however if you are a regular yoga practitioner, you already have the tools of yoga available to be able to continue with a personal practice at home, to keep body, mind and heart in balance. These tools will be even more important now and going forward, as we possibly head into lockdown, and isolation becomes a reality for awhile. The virus is spreading more rapidly, and its also coming to light that contact with a person whos tested ...positive isnt required for you to become infected. There have been a few new cases in recent days where people have had no contact with anyone testing positive or their contacts. Its been shown that the virus can remain active for up to 9 days, on some surfaces. Please ensure you keep your distance and practice good hygiene, taking note of government health guidelines. Regularly washing hands with soap & water, while singing two rounds of Happy Birthday, is long enough time to remove the virus on your hands. Remember not to touch your face - eyes, nose and mouth, to lessen the chance of infection, and remember coughing etiquette. Please dont hesitate to reach out to someone if you feel isolated, or feel the need for some emotional & mental support. This wont last forever, our normal lives will resume, hopefully in the not too distant future. Stay safe, stay well and take care Virtual hugs Sonia

07.01.2022 I just got this message from a friend of a friend who is an expat just emerging from 7 weeks of lockdown in China: We are just finishing our 7th week of E-Lear...ning, seven weeks of being mainly housebound and seven weeks of uncertainty. We are healthy, we are happy, and we are humbled. We are allowed to move around freely now with a green QR code that we show when we get our temperature taken. You get your temperature taken everywhere, and its just become part of the routine. Most restaurants and shopping centres are now open, and life is coming back to our city. As we watch the rest of the world begin their time inside; here are some of my reflections on the last seven weeks: 1. Accept that you have no control over the situation. Let go of any thoughts of trying to plan too much for the next month or two. Things change so fast. Dont be angry and annoyed at the system. Anxiety goes down, and you make the best of the situation - whatever that might be for you. Accept that this is what it is and things will get easier. 2. Try not to listen to/read/watch too much media. It WILL drive you crazy. There is a thing as too much! 3. The sense of community I have felt during this time is incredible. I could choose who I wanted to spend my energy on - who I wanted to call, message and connect with and found the quality of my relationships has improved. 4. Appreciate this enforced downtime. When do you ever have time like this? I will miss it when we go back to the fast-paced speed of the real world. 5. Time goes fast. I still havent picked up the ukelele I planned to learn, and there are box set TV shows I havent watched yet. 6. As a teacher, the relationships I have built with my students have only continued to grow. I have loved seeing how independent they are; filming themselves to respond to tasks while also learning essential life skills such as balance, risk-taking and problem-solving, that even we as adults are still learning. 7. You learn to appreciate the little things; sunshine through the window, flowers blossoming and being able to enjoy a coffee in a cafe. To those just beginning this journey, You will get through it. Listen to what you are told, follow the rules and look out for each other. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

04.01.2022 Working on foot and gluteus medius strength near a railing. The railing is to remove fear and support you if there is any pain. The movement may feel risky for ...weak knees at first but it will go a long way to protect knees if practiced regularly. Make sure you feel safe and supported and dont forget to breathe See more

03.01.2022 Using a rubber band to strengthen the rotator cuff external rotators - muscles that easily weaken, even in fit people. They are small muscles so use a gentle s...trength band and make sure your form is good. I tell some people to do it looking at a mirror so they can see when they start moving the whole shoulder and shoulder blade rather than just the ball in the socket Thanks to my hunky hubby See more
