23.01.2022 Today the Newcastle Herald spoke to our director Matt Purcell about the impact COVID is having on youth, our business and the morale to pursue the arts. "Kids aren't allowed to gig anymore and they can't perform and the same for drama and dancers. They're all restricted to an online platform which is massively saturated and they're competing with the world then, they're not competing locally. It really changes the whole mindset of even giving it a crack. That's my fear that ...youth will be so discouraged to pursue music now." We would love your support. We are offering a free lesson valued closed to $50 and major discounts for new members who sign up for the term. Read full article here https://www.newcastleherald.com.au//youth-being-hit-hard/

22.01.2022 A message from our Director and life coach Matt- I want to encourage all the school students that are going back this week with a few truths to help motivate your week. - you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Talk to that girl/guy, take that elective, apply for the job, train your ass off. ... - what's right isn't always popular, what's popular always right. Stand up for yourself and for the people you love. We can’t allow the negative people be loudest in our schools and on the social chats. SPEAK UP. - personal leadership means not allowing other people to dictate your future, your identity, your value. You have power, you have value. You give value and power to things all the time, and you can't give what you don't have. Use your power to help not hurt others. - don't focus on getting promoted, focus on being promotable. Don't focus on being popular. - you are more capable than you believe you are. - you are loved. Go for it.

19.01.2022 Happy Friday everybody!

19.01.2022 To our amazing students and families, In response to the Australian governments advice surrounding the coronavirus, we are implementing practical steps to ensure that the safety of our students and staff is the number one priority and to minimize the possibility of spreading the virus the most as we possibly can. The coronavirus will affect all types of businesses no organization will be immune to its impact. After seeking advice from experts including an education minister..., we have decided that we will be moving toward digitizing our lessons in coming weeks in preparation that the virus may force our business to operate remotely. This will most likely be the strategy for most educational institutions including university, schools and some work places - including ours. Here are some important updates: - Lessons will continue at The Green Room and in all our schools until further notice. - Please do not attend lessons if you are unwell. If you attend lessons and you are unwell, we will politely ask you to return home. - We will be providing hand cleaning products, wipes, and ensuring all surfaces are cleaned in our studios thoroughly and regularly in between student visits. - If you wish to have online lessons rather than in person, please let us know this week. This will be the approach for our business if the government advises businesses to cease operating in person. We will send our very easy online FaceTime tutorial. Gaining perspective of the impact of this virus is very important. As business owners, it’s a very stressful and inconvenient time as we have staff, wages, overheads and families to provide for and we are doing all we can to be wise and adapt to the changes. As education and employment look toward becoming digitized, our encouragement is to not resist change - but adopt it, embrace it and together we will get through this. Our kids need their routines - even if we are home bound! Our hopes and prayers go out to everyone. Be wise. Look at what you can control and please contact us with any concerns. Thank you Matt Purcell - Director

18.01.2022 The media have seemed to forgotten our young people amongst the pandemic. One of the proven ways to manage stress and anxiety is through listening and learning music. For us, the focus needs to be helping youth and families and even though live performances have been pretty much restricted, no one can deny the power of music.

17.01.2022 Love having our new team members with us today Adrianna and Tobin.

16.01.2022 Awesome singing session with Bree and student Kayley who is incredible. She’s 9! Go kayley!

16.01.2022 "A lot of kids don't tell their parents what the hell is going on, a lot of kids aren't telling their friends what's going on," Purcell says. "They're getting their advice through social media, or from people they don't know. That’s why mentors play a big role. What a great article on our director Matt Purcell about The Green Room and his journey so far. https://www.theherald.com.au//purcells-journey-to-being-/

16.01.2022 Like an athlete, there’s performance mode and practice mode. Practice mode, you can take your time and reattempt your piece as many times as you want. But it all boils down to executing the performance - sometimes only once. That live performance counts for a dozen practices - you develop a 10x on resilience, skill, focus, presence when you’re exposed to a live audience.

15.01.2022 There is too much bad news that swamps our feeds. Some good news is that we honestly have been supporting and believing in young people for over 7 years and counting. Young people are our future and have been forgotten in the mainstream narrative. It’s a pleasure to be here.

15.01.2022 Our amazing English and Maths mentor Andrew loves a good game a chess. So much so, he actually is a champion chess player and tutors chess too! 03.01.2022 Chris Benson is a Guitar Tutor at The Green Room MP. Along with being an expert Guitarist, he is our longest-running tutor and has been in multiple bands and gigs on the regular. Chris has a passion for music and sound-production, and is an incredible kind and gentle spirit. We interviewed Chris today, read the interview below! **Who inspires you? Who do you inspire to be like?** You know Kanye West inspires me. He can make anything happen, anything he sets his eyes on a rea...lity. Which is what I want to be like. **What’s the greatest risk you’ve ever taken?** Buying all my studio equipment, spending all my money on musical equipment and leaving myself with little remaining, just to release a few songs and see where that goes. I rented a storage unit to set up a studio one time- it didn’t work out but it was a big risk! **What did you learn from that?** To take risks no matter how big or small they are even if the outcome isn’t what you thought it would be- it’s good to have that experience. **Who is your best friend and what do you love about them?** Harrison Mills. He’s a guy I met through the green room, my student. I went to his house to practice for a limelight performance one time. He ended up playing drums for me- he was insanely good so I got him to be a part of my band -- and through that we’ve developed a friendship. We’ve become best friends. **What is an obsession you have that I don’t know?** Oh Gossip girl. My girlfriend started watching all the seasons again, and I hated it at first, but now she’ll fall asleep watching it and I’ll stay up and watch another five episodes. *Laughs* **What makes you feel super loved?** When the kids I’m teaching outwardly show me that they’re enjoying themselves, they look up at me and show me they’re having a good time. #familyiseverything #family #thegreenroom #music #tuition #guitar #lessons #interview #people #newcastle #warnersbay #gettoknow #crestwood #kanyewest #questions #thought #provoking #friendship #values #wholesome

03.01.2022 Bree Young is a vocal tutor at The Green Room MP. Bree is both an excellent musician, as she is a friend to all of us, a valued member of our team and an outstanding performer. Today we interviewed Bree to get to know her a little better. If you could name three things about where you work that you really like, what would they be? The actual area, warners bay, is really beautiful.... My students. We attract a lot of family. Today I taught three siblings in a row, and that’s so cool. Teaching everyone from the same family. My co-workers and my boss. We are such a family, and that’s really nice. It really is like... A family- and that’s really nice. What’s one childhood superstition or fear you never told anyone? I’m really scared of the dark. I haven’t told anyone, and I always have been since I was a kid. Not being able to see anything is just so horrifying. How did you deal with that as a kid? *Laughs* I didn’t- I always had a nightlight or mum would leave the door open -- or I’d honestly just shove myself under the blankets and fall asleep. Were you thankful she got you a nightlight? "Yes, so much- and now I have a salt lamp! She is the best -- best mum in the world." What’s your favourite Disney movie? Frozen! -Because, you know, she thinks she needs to find true love but it’s just her sister. That family bond is what unfroze her! I loved that, it’s beautiful. What’s the single best piece of advice you’ve been given? Everything that comes to you is- you’re going to be able to overcome it -- and there’s always a way out and it may seem really rough, but there’s always a way to go. Who is your best friend and what do you love about them? I think it’s my step-dad, Alex. He and I laugh about stuff uncontrollably, like really random silly stuff, but then I can also tell him absolute depths of stuff that like I just- don’t tell other people.. He’s such a comforting person. #interview #music #tutoring #lessons #vocals #thegreenroom #newcastle #warnersbay #lifestyle #honesty #authentic #response #sharing #personal #story #family #familyiseverything

01.01.2022 Samantha Wilson is a piano tutor at The Green Room MP and an excelling pianist studying her craft for several years. You can read our interview with Sammy below! **When are you happiest?** When I am surrounded by people that I love and cherish, and when I am doing something that I am extremely passionate about and driven towards.... **Do you consider yourself artistic?** Yep. I would consider myself artistic. My passion has always been more toward the arts and music, and all those creative subjects- so yes, I would consider myself artistic. **Who was your most influential school teacher?** My most influencial school teacher was definitely my music teacher, he’s still one of my best friends to this day and even though he’s no longer my teacher is having a massive play in my development towards the career that I want, so, definitely him. **Do you think you would have travelled down the path that you did if not for him?** Absolutely not. I think I might have still considered doing a teaching career, but he was definitely the one who sparked my interest in a music career. **Who is your best friend and what do you love about them?** My best friend is my sister. She’s the one who’s been through the most with me and stuck by my side through everything. Even though I guess we’re both very different people- um -- we’re always there for each other when we need you know, she’s my best friend. **What emotion do you experience the most?** I guess my emotions are driven by my goals, so if I’m working towards something my emotion is always- I’m usually always working towards something so Whatever that emotion is, *that* one! *laughs* **If you could do anything for the rest of your life, what would it be?** Travel. Yeah, definitely travel because That is filling your life with experiences that are out of your comfort zone. **If you had to pick someone to travel with you around the world, who would they be?** I would pick Jodie. So she’s my canadian friend that I met on exchange and we travelled a lot when we were together and it was just a really great time. --You can read more interviews on our wall!-- #greenroom #newcastle #music #tutoring #life
