25.01.2022 Were you at the Katoomba pool last Friday?

25.01.2022 For those working to adapt to the challenges of these interesting times, I hope this resource may be of value?

25.01.2022 Congrats to Faulconbridge RFS for officially being handed the keys to a brand new Cat 1 Tanker with a modern crew protection system and all the bells and whistles! And honoured to recognise the work of community volunteers with Long Service medal presentations amounting to 192 years of service by the recipients.

24.01.2022 Great to see the highway duplication issue raised in the Upper House of the NSW Parliament by our MLC Abigail Boyd last week. It’s so important to recognise this proposed expansion of the highway will bring more and larger trucks through every village in the Blue Mountains - although the direct impacts of construction will effect Ward One townships greatly, the long term traffic impacts will fall on all Blue Mountains residents. Building rail to transport freight is the only real solution and needs to be done for many reasons in addition to reducing the trucks ploughing through our communities. Please make your voice heard and sign the petition!

23.01.2022 If you or anyone you know was at the Katoomba Aquatic Centre on Friday 4 September, please make sure to read and heed this advice. Whilst of course this is not the news any of us wanted to hear, the only real surprise is we haven’t had to deal with this type of situation any earlier in the pandemic. My best wishes to all impacted by this troubling news.... [From Mayor Mark Greenhill post tonight] I have some upsetting news tonight. On 4 September a person visited Katoomba Sports and Aquatic Centre who NSW Health advises was COVID-19 positive. NSW Health has ordered those who were at the centre between 11.30am and 1.30pm on 4 September to quarantine until Friday, 18 September. My immediate thoughts are with our Staff and with our community. This is not news I ever wanted to bring you. Council staff are working closely with NSW Health. I don't have any more details that what has been published here. All information relevant to the individual in question sits with NSW Health and not Council. We will be asking NSW Health to publish as much information as they can, as soon as they can. We have closed the centre immediately until further notice and a deep clean will take place as soon as possible. Please, if you were at the centre on the day in question, do not notify me on this post. Please immediately contact NSW Health https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectio//Pages/default.aspx It is important that you do not treat this Facebook post as the appropriate place to notify. This is disturbing news but we have faced tough times together, before. Let's support each other in the way that we always do and we'll get through this.

22.01.2022 Heads up everyone, duplicating the highway from Katoomba to Lithgow will mean larger and more trucks congesting our roads and impacting our villages and towns. This is much bigger issue than the direct impacts on Blackheath, and it’s crucial we all rise up and tell the Liberals it’s time they listened to our community rather than the National Party fools driving this proposal!

22.01.2022 A great loss to our community, Vale Lachlan Garland. Thanks so much to my Ward 2 colleague Romola Hollywood for this beautiful tribute to a dear friend who will be deeply missed.

20.01.2022 Great to see this story on the Cities Power Partnership #ClimateAwards2020 congrats again to Mayor Mark Greenhill for taking out the Climate Ambassador of the year. I’m grateful for the recognition given to our early declaration of a Climate Emergency and my proposal to join the CPP, two of my proudest achievements in my first term on Council, and I’m excited about all the good efforts we have in the pipeline! Most of all, I’m thankful for the support of our local Blue Mountains Greens group for the New Green Team of Sarah Redshaw, Kingsley Liu and I to stand united to work together for further climate action at the September 2021 Local Government elections! https://www.bluemountainsgazette.com.au//blue-mountains-/

19.01.2022 Many thanks to all the local residents who came along to Gloria Park this morning to meet with me, Councillor Romola Hollywood and Councillor Chris Van Der Kley to discuss concerns and explore possibilities for making this wonderful place even better. Great to hear lots of ideas and to meet some our most recent arrivals to Hazelbrook. Whilst some things will be easier to fix than others, it’s a real pleasure to work so closely and collaboratively with my Ward 2 Councillor colleagues to get things done.

18.01.2022 Wonderful to be back out listening to live music again...! Soular Spill and the Three Handed Beat Bandits rock!! https://fb.me/e/1Hiae6iQJ

18.01.2022 This. Must. Be. Stopped. It’s just going to be mud and dead trees. The trees will die, he says. It’s the opposite of the precautionary principle. It’s basically a no regrets approach.

17.01.2022 In case you are up the hill this weekend, or heading that way...

17.01.2022 It’s that time of year again, let’s all make sure we do something to mark Get Ready Weekend!

15.01.2022 Remembering my Great Grandfather and Granduncles today, Joseph Alexander, Edward and John Hoare. Joseph (top) was killed shortly after arriving at the Western Front, and Edward (left) spent 3 years in the trenches before dying shortly before the Armistice. John (right) made it home, but was post traumatically stressed and become estranged from the family. Tragically, Great-Grandfather Edward Hoare died in a car accident shortly after the war. Such hard times, I stand in honour of their memory.

15.01.2022 It’s well past time we started making better choices, will you get on board?

14.01.2022 Let’s remember these deluded clowns who think, in defiance of the central tenets of Westminster democracies, that they can sit concurrently in the NSW Cabinet and on the cross bench are the same people driving the push to duplicate the Great Western Highway from Katoomba to Lithgow, and to bring more and larger trucks to every village across our beautiful Blue Mountains. They have to go. https://www.abc.net.au//koala-protection-policy-a/12649290

14.01.2022 After a few weeks delay due to rain, it’s great to see work beginning on the construction of the new playground at Wentworth Falls Lake, and due for completion in June. https://www.bluemts.com.au//construction-underway-for-new/

13.01.2022 As a firefighter, I’m really worried about our capacity to cope with another season like last year, followed by a worse one and then another, and then... This is the future we are looking at if we continue to burn coal and gas in spite of the overwhelming evidence of the consequences. This report is just another telling us what we have already know, the only question is when will our political leaders start taking this seriously?

13.01.2022 #ICYMI check out page 13 of this week’s Blue Mountains Gazette for a message from the Council on the significance of the Ombudsman’s report into NSW SafeWork. It is simply extraordinary for a regulatory agency to be directed to apologise, and to pay compensation. It appears SafeWork has now made some kind of apology (see Gazette story), but I’m sure there will be much more to say about this. https://www.bluemountainsgazette.com.au//safework-nsw-apo/

12.01.2022 Pleased to have been quoted in this story. I remain completely bewildered about why any government would think this is ok! https://www.bluemountainsgazette.com.au//council-weighs-/

12.01.2022 It’s time to get ready folks! How are your gutters and yard looking?

12.01.2022 A wonderful evening being guided around the galaxies last night with Dmitri and Caroline from Blue Mountains Stargazing at a Wentworth Falls lookout! Learnt so much about the Jewel Box, the Coalsack Nebula, the Magellanic Clouds, rotation of the sky around the South Celestial Pole, Dark Emu and so much more, including history, philosophy and cultural perspectives on astronomy! The piping hot chocolate was a great way to start the tour, a great part of ur Dark Sky city, highly recommended! https://www.facebook.com/bluemountainsstargazing

11.01.2022 Amazing to be part of the audience for a special The Spooky Men's Chorale film project at the Springwood Hub this afternoon!

10.01.2022 Many thanks to Sarah Redshaw for BM Greens Ward 1 for speaking out this morning against the increase in truck traffic across the Blue Mountains, great to hear she was interviewed on ABC 702!

10.01.2022 Thinking of all those at Grammar impacted by this development, and all those anxious about further spread. Many thanks to all those on the front lines of our health system dealing with this, let’s all hope it is rapidly contained.

09.01.2022 Looking forward to speaking with Marlene Churn on her RBM 89.1 show shortly!

09.01.2022 Arise clicktivists! The Government’s gagging of debate and ramming these laws through the House of Representatives is an outrage, let’s help HSI make it clear we will not let them get away with it! https://action.hsi.org.au/page/60441/action/1?locale=en-AU

09.01.2022 The lack of attention by the metropolitan media to the unprecedented and frankly scandalous NSW Ombudsman’s report into SafeWork’s involvement in asbestos issues in the Blue Mountains has been disappointing, but today saw two stories and an editorial in the Murdoch papers. Remarkably, these were initiated not by Council, but apparently by the National Party as part of broader tensions within the NSW Coalition. This brought on a question of the Premier in Parliament, and along with the Channel 7 news tonight there will be more stories in the Daily Telegraph and BM Gazette to look forward to. There are so many more questions to ask, I’m sure this extraordinary story has a lot further to run yet...

06.01.2022 Love Local - Love Woodford! (And let’s save the Woodford Memorial Park pedestrian bridge!)

06.01.2022 In the early to mid 2000’s I played an active role in a parents activist group COUGH - Campaign Opposed to Unflued Gas Heaters. We achieved some success in getting these polluting heaters out of schools in the coldest areas of the Blue Mountains, but as this article makes clear, so much more remains to be done to ensure our schools have clean warm air! As the proud owner of a newish induction stove, I’m certain I’ll never go back to gas, and I’d recommend induction to anyone. https://apple.news/APTQyI7_ZR2qrGmC5JPKtFg

06.01.2022 Great news, such a relief to hear staff are ok, at least so far.

06.01.2022 It is so exciting to be standing together as candidates with Sarah Redshaw for BM Greens Ward 1, with shared trust and loyalty, and complete confidence in her abilities to grasp issues and make sound, principled decisions.

06.01.2022 I welcome the Federal Government’s decision to protect Wahluu / Mount Panorama due to its important Indigenous cultural heritage. Today is a win for the Wiradyuri people, and we Blue Mountains Greens stand with them in solidarity.

05.01.2022 Many thanks to the Australian Earth Laws Alliance for their enormously valuable assistance in the development of Blue Mountains City Council’s Rights of Nature initiative! https://www.facebook.com/groups/1787961304806480/permalink/2991961817739750/

04.01.2022 Wonderful to be here to hear David Brazil speak about the stories behind his remarkable exhibition of historic and modern images of the mountains, well worth a visit!

04.01.2022 Was humbled to attend the opening of the Gathering Place and upgrades at Echo Point, and be a part of reclaiming the cultural and spiritual identity of the Sisters- Dyindinggang and Dyinbarri. We have a long way to go to make these Gundungurra and Dharug names as well known and used as they must become, and as Aunty Sharon called for this morning, but it’s an important journey to have embarked on! As much as the physical infrastructure, this will be an important legacy of the 2016-2021 Council.

04.01.2022 Great to spend Easter Sunday shed-raising with Ward One Candidate Sarah Redshaw and some very special friends!

03.01.2022 Great to see this recognition of the wonderful things happening in Ward 2!

02.01.2022 A must read piece this weekend!
