25.01.2022 We have so many amazing volunteers (and paid folks) in our beautiful community. Make sure you let them know how much what they do means to you.

25.01.2022 There's just one week to take action for a critical decision on koala protection! On Tuesday 6 October, NSW Government Ministers will meet to decide crucial gui...delines underpinning the new planning policy to protect koala habitat (Koala SEPP). Rest assured, the Nats will come at it with everything they’ve got to weaken what little protections for koala habitat there is. But what the NSW Koala Inquiry made clear was that koala habitat can’t continue to be cleared if we are to have any hope of saving our precious koala from extinction. The Premier and her Planning and Environment Ministers need to hear from everyone who cares about koalas today: Strengthen, not weaken, protections for koalas! Add your name and please spread the word! https://www.catefaehrmann.org/4_things_koala_laws

25.01.2022 It is time for the Ordinary Meeting of Council tomorrow (Wednesday 25th) for November from 9am - in Chambers, with live streaming online and a recording and minutes going up later. No time for hints about the agenda this month so I encourage you to have a scan through and look at whatever interests you. There is always lots going on in Council and the range of issues that councils are required to tackle may just surprise you (I will give you a hint - rates, roads and rubbish as core business ended over 40 years ago now and it's a complex world). Full business papers (and live stream, recording and minutes) can be found at https://www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au/council/agenda-and-minutes

25.01.2022 We just won the annual Bluett Award for most progressive in the state for a rural council, the highest acknowledgment for local government. Well done to all the staff who made this happen and to my fellow councillors who steer this ship.

23.01.2022 People with Armidale links, Minister Hancock just said at the Local Goverment NSW Conference that she will be reinstating Armidale Council before the end of the year. Great news!

23.01.2022 OUT NOW! For our season finale, we're joined by none other than Kerry O'Brien for a special-length episode. In a wide-ranging conversation we talk of the curren...t political climate at home and abroad; of his reflections on the major interviews of his career; and of the difficulties and triumphs facing the next generation. We're also joined by Alex Landragin, reading from his remarkable debut novel 'Crossings', while Honey & Knives echo Robert Frost with 'Two Roads'. 16.01.2022 We need more diversity in government of all levels. Please do give me a call if you are thinking of running for Council in 2021 and have any questions, want to know how to get started, find out more etc.

15.01.2022 Don’t forgot the best little market is on tomorrow!

15.01.2022 Local Government NSW Annual Conference - this year online. My first return to Chambers since March. A range of motions on the table that are very relevant to our Shire and beyond, and a complex number of media at hand to view the conference, speak to motions and vote so it’s going to be a long but important day.

14.01.2022 Public broadcasting is so important.

11.01.2022 The Growers Market is on this Easter weekend! Soapcakes are back from their holiday, so come down and re-stock on your favourite all-natural local-made soap!

10.01.2022 And this is but one thing that local government in NSW is up against.

10.01.2022 Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe Easter Sunday, long weekend and break from the rain. Here is a little animation my son and his buddy did yesterday. I think, as 11 year olds, they have captured how life feels some days perfectly! https://youtu.be/-wBNXw7_L70

08.01.2022 This afternoon!

07.01.2022 How is everyone keeping? Please reach out to the Neighbourhood Centres, the churches and community gardens if you need help with basics.

07.01.2022 On Wednesday I was re-elected Deputy Mayor by my fellow councillors and to be honest, after a particularly bad week online and personally, I haven’t had the energy to talk about it. I have pretty thick skin most of the time but sometimes the constant bullying and harassment wears me down. Anyway I’m still here and still working hard for social justice and the planet we live on and all the creatures we share it with. Be kind to each other and yourselves x

07.01.2022 I have just 3 words for you about tomorrow’s farmers’ market, tempeh, tempeh, tempeh. Actually make it 6, local tempeh!

06.01.2022 For those who have been waiting, it’s open.

06.01.2022 Fingers crossed that there rain keeps itself up there long enough for a wonderful market!

04.01.2022 This afternoon in Bellingen.

03.01.2022 Missing for 4 days now, believed to be on foot - keep an eye out around Brierfield, Bowraville areas especially.

02.01.2022 If you travel across any of our bridges please check the survey(due Thursday) to see if your bridge is one of the ones we have earmarked for repair. If you fill out the survey it will help us to secure funding in the upcoming "Fixing Country Bridges"round of funding.

02.01.2022 This afternoon, always an amazing selection but now with seeds too!

01.01.2022 Just wrote a huge post about tomorrow's agenda for the Ordinary Council Meeting and Facebook ate it! Please excuse the brevity: We are on tomorrow at 9am, streamed live (and a recording and minutes up later) plus full business papers available at: https://bellingen.civicclerk.com.au/Web/Player.aspx... A long agenda and might I recommend reading some of the quarterly reports and half yearly reports in order to get an idea of the range and complexity of issues each of our Council units deals with, for example, the Sustainable Environment and Waste Unit and the Community Wellbeing Unit (just in case you are still harbouring the misconception hat local government should only be dealing with 'roads, rates and rubbish'). We welcome your input and questions.

01.01.2022 Dear players, parents and lovers of the BYO. We are hoping to establish an annual camp to provide our players with the opportunity to access a Music Camp envir...onment that is usually only available to them in Sydney. We know that camps held in Sydney or regional areas can be expensive for parents and also incur transportation issues. We are currently looking at seeking grants/funds to assist in the establishment of a local camp. If you believe that you may be able to write a 'letter of support' for this idea please email [email protected] or if you have any other ways/ideas/funds in which you would like to contribute. It has been a challenging year for the BYO (as for many) with the fires and the pandemic. We feel that this opportunity will help to continue to inspire our young players to continue to be resilient and play music. Thank you. See more
