25.01.2022 Don't miss this opportunity to listen to young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experts and activists talking about what's happening to country and what they (and you) can do about it.
24.01.2022 Congratulations from us Greens here in the Blacktown and Mount Druitt areas of Western Sydney!
22.01.2022 As we condemn the police brutality that cost George Floyd his life, what do we have to remember about the Aboriginal victims of so-called "law and order" in our society? The reflections in the post directly below this one are by Greens MP David Shoebridge.
22.01.2022 URGENT, URGENT, URGENT. Please take action to support Cate Faerhmann's bill to ban toxic incinerators from NSW. Two proposed incinerators threaten the health of the entire population of Western Sydney. Based in Blacktown and Eastern Creek, they will spew toxic pollutants throughout our suburbs. More people will get cancer. Can you spare the time to send one email? Please click below for more information plus a bit of help with writing and sending the email.
22.01.2022 Sharing this on our page to help it reach the older people who may find the information helpful. There are seniors in our community who don't use the internet, can't see to read as well as they once did, or don't know English very well. And there are kind souls who will help such seniors by explaining some of the good information and advice in this article, like the importance of washing our hands before and after we unpack our groceries, or how to get medications delivered.... Because it is important that older people stay home to protect their health, it's also important to help make it feasible for them/us to do that.
21.01.2022 A great opportunity to learn more about an issue that affects us all.
21.01.2022 Our national leader Adam Bandt talking realities.... Realities that will affect a lot of people as the COVID-19 pandemic takes hold in our society. And what the Greens in federal Parliament will be pushing for next week to support the people who are doing it tough and will be hit the worst.
21.01.2022 Breaking news: "The Greens had an important win today. We empowered a key Parliament oversight committee to review the NSW Governments management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Greens MP David Shoebridge is chair of the Public Accountability Committee and will ensure that meetings will be broadcast live so the public knows exactly what is happening in their Parliament. "Regular hearings of the cross-party committee will provide ongoing Parliamentary scrutiny of government decisio...n making related to COVID-19 with the first scheduled for 10am Friday 3 April. "In extraordinary times like this, public trust in decision making will be lifesaving. An essential part of this is continued scrutiny and accountability. This is what we have achieved today. "We have already seen an unprecedented expansion of powers in the government's emergency laws to respond to the COVID-19. How and why those powers are exercised needs oversight. "With NSW Parliament adjourned until September, The Greens believe these new measures are essential to ensure public accountability and a check on the government. "Now more than ever we need to keep the public informed and the government accountable."
20.01.2022 Call-out for tomorrow (Saturday) from Greens MP Jenny Leong: "If you are able to take to the streets, I ask you to please prioritise attending tomorrow so we can collectively demonstrate our commitment to ending deaths in custody."
20.01.2022 There were fires on Captain Cook Drive, so the bushfire crisis was right here on our doorstep. But who paid any attention to what we were going through? Sounds like this workshop will give us the opportunity to speak up about what needs to change before next summer. Hope to see you there!
19.01.2022 Just sharing this wake-up call from Western Sydney Direct Action about the air pollution that will come our way when two incinerators are built in our backyard (not far south of the railway line). A BIG cause of concern for all of us who live in the Mt Druitt area. "A year in the life of 4 incinerators in Sydney Watch the toxic emissions EVERYWHERE in Sydney. See it with your own eyes - Animations of the four plumes by. Plume Plotter temporarily available here: https://plumeplotter.com/sydney-201601.mp4 "
19.01.2022 Looks like we're going to have to get back to campaigning on this, folks. Three incinerators are proposed for outer Western Sydney. There couldn't be a better time to join the Greens and sign up for the no-toxic-incinerators campaign group that Greens MP Cate Faerhmann has started. Please head here to join: https://contact-nsw.greens.org.au/civi/contribute/transact
18.01.2022 This is really exciting! The respected Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi has chosen specially to come to Mount Druitt and wants to hear OUR views. A "Green New Deal" through which we save our environment and make sure nobody is left behind. What might that look like? Please come and have your say.
16.01.2022 This just might give better insights than what the shock jocks have to say. Laugh and cry as you enjoy the show!
16.01.2022 Please join our state MP Cate Faerhmann in supporting Gladys in her pledge to save our state's koalas from extinction.
15.01.2022 If you're concerned about poor air quality, you are not the only one. This video is a wake-up call to the threat that those coal-fired power stations in the Hunter Valley pose to us out here in Western Sydney.
14.01.2022 Greens MP David Shoebridge puts it very well: "What is the point of a government that spends hundreds of millions bailing out corporations and on a tracing app that doesnt work while throwing millions of people into poverty during a pandemic and economic recession?"
13.01.2022 Very proud of Greens MP David Shoebridge at this time. Watch the video and you'll learn why. What happened next? "The following day, the NSW Parliament took its first step to address the demands for justice arising from the Black Lives Matter movement by launching a cross-party parliamentary inquiry into how deaths in custody are investigated in our state."
13.01.2022 It's Palm Sunday tomorrow, a great day for campaigning for refugee rights. Here's how to do it this year. We're especially thinking of the risk that COVID-19 poses to people wrongfully confined in offshore and onshore detention centres.
12.01.2022 Not so far down the railway line... Why not check it out?
12.01.2022 Totally unacceptable! Have the mining companies no respect for the oldest living culture on the planet?
11.01.2022 Tmorrow (Sunday) should be a lovely sunny day--the perfect day for a tiny, COVID-safe pop-up "Save Our Koalas" action. Or you could join the online rally.
11.01.2022 Greens leader Adam Bandt called on Instagram this morning for urgent action to prevent an #evictioncrisis. He wants the National Cabinet to meet URGENTLY to put a national eviction ban in place and take realistic action to support tenants who can't afford to pay their rent. If you're a tenant and your #landlord or #realestateagent has threatened to evict you, here's what you can do to help Adam ramp up the pressure. Tell #StoriesForScotty all about it. You can screencap any l...etters, texts or emails you've received. Or you can share a video tour of your #homesweethome. If you are anxious that you could be evicted, here's Adam's message for you. "The Greens see you, and we are fighting for you." #housingisahumanright #covid19 #coronavirus #itsnotahouseitsahome.
11.01.2022 Gambling harm is a big issue for us here in Western Sydney. Maybe you know somebody whose life has been ruined by it? So we thought we'd share the post below: "How do gambling companies get away with stuff like this? Well Tabcorp has donated over $700,000 to Labor and the Coalition in just the past 6 years." David Shoebridge... If you know anyone affected by online sports betting this story is worth a read. The ABC investigates how some betting agencies allegedly prey on and then trade vulnerable customers details. "By the time Tabcorp finally wrote to Gavin asking what his gross annual salary was in May 2018, he had lost $3.9 million with TAB." - ABC Investigations. The Article also suggests that some betting agencies maybe flaunting reporting requirements, opening the system up for money laundering. 10.01.2022 Greens MP Cate Faehrmann standing up for us in the NSW State Parliament. Just because the two proposed massive incinerators will be south of the railway line doesn't mean that the pollution isn't going to affect our health here in northern Mt Druitt, Let's get on board and support Cate's call for a total ban on toxic incinerators in NSW!
10.01.2022 Black lives matter--in the United States, in Australia, here in Western Sydney, in fact everywhere.
10.01.2022 What? Only $3.57 more per day when the COVID supplement to JobSeeker ends next month? That's worse than a slap in the face. Time to take action. Get-Up has a plan.
10.01.2022 Will requirements for self-isolation be effective if workers can't afford to stay at home? We can't protect the whole community without looking out for folk on insecure and low incomes.
10.01.2022 Please sign and share this petition to defend people who may face homelessness because their jobs are gone and they can't pay the rent. This is a GetUp petition, but it is consistent with Greens values. We stand up for working people and their families. We believe in homes for all.
09.01.2022 The proper way to keep our bushland fire-safe and healthy... NAIDOC is coming... "Heal country!" is the theme this year. Only Aboriginal knowledge-holders can tell the government how.
07.01.2022 Greens leader Adam Bandt continues his campaign for more support for tenants whose income has taken a hard knock because of the COVID-19 crisis. Are you looking at a looming #housingdebt ? What does yours look like? If you're in the same boat as the folk who sent Adam these photos, please read his post to see where you can upload a photo that is just like these.
07.01.2022 Please spare a thought for the students who are doing it tough because of COVID-19 and sign this petition.
07.01.2022 Please sign and share.
07.01.2022 There is now a Blacktown - Mt Druitt - Penrith COVID-19 Mutual Support Network, and it welcomes more and more people to sign up to join it. To find it, go to th...e #ViralKindness website (link below) and use the "find a group" button. That will take you to the Facebook Group, which you can request to join. We are going to need initiatives like this in the tough times that are coming. There are many ways of supporting each other--we all have something to offer.
06.01.2022 54.4 degrees recorded in Death valley. Now, what was the highest temperature recorded out our way last summer? Was it 48? Only about 6.4 degrees to go to reach the highest temperature ever recorded on the planet. Scary? Don't get scared, get active. Climate action now!
05.01.2022 Please check this out if you are interested. It couldn't be more timely.
05.01.2022 Lest we forget... Honouring everyone who suffered being known by a number at the Kinchela Boys Home, and much else besides. Head to https://kinchelaboyshome.org.au/what-we-/education-program/ to find out how the Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation has preserved their stories through its Stolen Generations Mobile Education Centre.
04.01.2022 Time for us Westies to stand up and be counted! In the Mount Druitt suburbs we know all about the worsening summer heat. We all know what's causing it--but state and federal governments are failing to acknowledge that we are in a CLIMATE EMERGENCY. Let's make a big effort to get to the march in Parramatta this coming Tuesday and help ensure that it's the biggest march of concerned citizens that Parramatta has ever seen!
03.01.2022 There's been a call-out from Greens MPs David Shoebridge and Jenny Leong to support this rally. They write: "Together, we will continue to follow the lead of First Nations families, activists, Elders and organisations" to make change happen. The rally is in late July. Please put it in your diary.
02.01.2022 There's something you can do... Join the fight to fix public housing greens.org.au/fix-public-housing
02.01.2022 Great rally in Sydney yesterday. First Nations voices will not be silenced.
01.01.2022 Standing in solidarity with the teenager, his family, and all victims of racism in Australia.
