24.01.2022 Coolgardie’s town park block was set aside as public open space before the town was built. Such foresight, and value for these spaces at a time when you would imagine that these areas weren’t so valued. Love that the town has always acknowledged this park area as Coolgardie’s Lungs. It’s certainly a place of respite in the heat of summer and a credit to the Coolgardie, Western Australia Shire. A terrific rest stop for travellers as well. #loveregionalWA #coolgardie #plantsmakeoxygen #greenspaces #greenspace #natural #countrytown Thank you to Sarah for providing these photos.

23.01.2022 Day 1 of the Perth Garden Festival at Langley Park has been very well supported. A huge range of Nursery, Landscape and support industry services on display wit...h sales going flat out. Thanks to Matt Lunn and his organizing team for their vision to see this run in 2021. Oodles of space, parking is easy, plenty of walking and if your not so steady on your pins, airport type buggies to run you from your car to the entrance gate, all within Langley Park. Plenty of places for a bite to eat, a sit down and specialist presenters all day each of the 4 days. Highly recommended folks with appropriate social distancing of course! #perthnrm #ngiwa #liawa #tgawa #greenspacealliance #tuckerbushplants #mucheatreefarm #sabrinahahn #nationallandcareprogram #regionalagriculturellandcarefacilitatorprogram See more

23.01.2022 It’s just not natural! Creating dead earth underneath, heating up the environment, certainly not the water saver it’s claimed to be! If a one 1 litre plastic bottle takes 10 litres of water to be made, how much water is used to make a square metre of plastic grass? A lot! It’s not only the plastic that’s an issue, it’s the rubber tyre crumbs within that also cause harm to the environment and apparently to human and animal health. This is in our view, is a sound and sensible d...ecision. Creating excellent soil health and soil moisture retention affords natural, living plants such as turf, the opportunity to provide a multitude of benefits more profound than plastic grass can ever claim. Well maintained irrigated turf is proven as the best urban cooling surface (refer to link below). 100% cover of the planet with natural, living grasses, plants, shrubs and trees is the ideal to keep the planet healthy and cool, for survival. Bugger plastic! https://www.turfaustralia.com.au/.../FactSheet%20Turf... 23.01.2022 Love seeing this community of children, enjoying natural green spaces even in the most remote areas. Kids innately gravitate to natural, green areas to play sport and recreate. Our regional and remote communities battle many challenges to ensure that there are green spaces and places for children and youth. It’s something that we need to work together to ensure is a right and not a privilege for these communities. Love these photos! Thank you @WarmunCommunityInc for sharing this. What a beautiful place in the Kimberley!

21.01.2022 Next to the Murray River at Pinjarra, are some of the most utilised yet peaceful natural, green spaces. A beautiful location where the Murray meanders by. You can find out more about Pinjarra here https://www.aussietowns.com.au/town/pinjarra-wa Shire of Murray Pinjarra

21.01.2022 Our webinar on synthetic turf installation around Sydney was eye opening - we've got powerful community activists standing up for their local patch, experts tel...ling us about the pollution and heat impacts from these surfaces and an invigorating Q&A. We hope you find it as valuable as we did.

19.01.2022 The importance of access to public spaces has been thrown into sharp relief by Melbourne’s lengthy lockdown. Who knew that we’d come to value so highly the ability to simply sit in a park, let alone sit in a park with other people? Dr Caroline Butler-Bowdon is the executive director for public spaces in the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment. In this episode, she talks about the state government’s ambition to dramatically increase the proportion of homes in urban areas that are within ten minutes’ walk of quality, green, open and public space essential for mental and bodily health now more than ever. https://timeoutforbusiness.com/podcast/

11.01.2022 Magnificent natural green spaces at the University of Western Australia. The theory 100% cover, 100% of the time is well and truly working here. The wildlife are benefiting, humans are benefiting, and the micro climate is perfect. Beautiful, inviting, cooling green spaces, that are a credit to the grounds staff. Exceptional. #greenspace #nature #natural #perthisok #oxygen #qualitytime #plants #turf #gardens #cool

11.01.2022 You’d swear you were somewhere in a state forrest, when in fact this amazing natural bushland park is Sir Frederick Samson Park in Samson (City of Fremantle). Suspended in time, unaffected by introduced weeds, this pristine bushland, is exactly as it was before settlement. It is a credit to the volunteers who keep the weeds at bay and the park in a beautiful state, and the City of Fremantle. Sir Frederick Samson Park is the largest bush reserve in the City of Fremantle, and... is the City's only bush forever park. The nature trials wind through the park, amongst the beautiful jarrah, marri and tuart trees, and other nature plants. The park also provides habitat to over 50 bird species, reptiles and bats. It's great for friends and family to get together, with wonderful picnic spaces with plenty of shade and a playground for the kids. Facilities include public toilets, picnic area, BBQ facilities, basketball court, dog walking areas. 07.01.2022 A huge shortfall of natural green spaces in Melbourne which is pretty sad given the reliance on these spaces during lockdown period. Residents had come to depend on their local amenity more than ever, and local parks allowed for small groups to socially distance outdoors in the early stages out of lockdown. https://apple.news/AN6ZaLA9pTPua4Rhj6J1lug

06.01.2022 It’s beautiful to see natural bushland, surrounding a community oval. The Creyk Park area in Kelmscott is an amazingly beautiful place. Kids playing footy on an amazing oval, and being able to go for a mini bush-walk adjacent to the oval after the game! Best of both worlds. Great retention of native bushland by the City of Armadale

02.01.2022 This is really concerning. Unauthorised use of tyre-crumb filled, plastic carpet results in massive river pollution episode. "Everywhere he looked for it along the river, Russ Ladley, resource protection manager for the Puyallup Tribe, saw crumbs of black rubber. Immediately downstream of the dam, it lay in streaks of black on the beach. Fourteen miles down river, there it was again, in black nubby necklaces around rocks, in bands along the shore, in heaps on the river’s sandy bank." https://www.seattletimes.com//rubber-debris-litters-miles/

01.01.2022 Excellent initiative.
