25.01.2022 Meet Demodex Canis, or puppy mange. It is known to cause bald patches in young dogs. They look like a microscopic cigar with 8 little legs.... If you look carefully you might be able to see his short little legs waving!

23.01.2022 Update - By now you will have observed that we are all experiencing an unprecedented upheaval to our daily lives. Up till this point, our staff have increased their efforts to maintain a safe environment for clients and their fellow staff. We have been attempting to protect the community by increasing our efforts to clean and disinfect the public area of the building. As the spread of Covid-19 moves through the community, we will periodically change some of our policies and ...procedures. The most important feature of virus control will revolve around SOCIAL ISOLATION. As of 8am this morning we have made the following changes. 1. We ask that anyone who is unwell for any reason, do not enter the building. Contact us by phone and we will meet you in the car park. 2. If you recently returned from overseas, we also ask that you dont enter the building. Again, we will arrange to meet you in the car park. 3. All pets entering the building must be on lead or in a carrier. 4. We will no longer accept cash payments. All payments need to be made by card. 5. We will only allow one person into the building with each patient to limit crowding and to allow for safe social distancing. 6. There will be limited seating available in the waiting room. 7. Puppy classes will be suspended until further notice. 8. Some elective procedures may be rescheduled. We will contact you if this is necessary. Thank you for your continued support. We will get through this together.

21.01.2022 PUPPY SCAM WARNING Two Perth consumers have been left more than $2,300 out of pocket each after making payments to a fake website French Bulldog Rehomin...g. Consumer Protection WA commissioner David Hillyard says they are working to have the website shut down and urged people to be be extra vigilant when searching on the internet or dealing with sellers on social media. "Its easy to be fooled as fake websites and social media pages can look very professional and authentic," he said. "When consumers make enquiries on the fake sites, they are asked to pay a substantial deposit or the full amount, usually via bank transfer, for the pet that doesnt really exist. "Then there are usually follow-up demands for extra payments for freight, insurance and quarantine clearances." Mr Hillyard said consumers should check whether the sellers have a legitimate physical address, a landline and an Australian Business Number, plus look for online reviews. "Dont take any chances. Consider only dealing with local sellers and dog breeders where you can meet the seller and personally verify that the puppy is real. "If you pay using credit card or via PayPal, there is a good chance youll get your money back if the seller turns out to be a scammer, so be suspicious if the online business demands a money transfer," he said. He said Consumer Protection has received reports from 23 people who claim to have lost a total of $32,740 to pet scams so far this year. "Although puppy scams are the most common, other pet lovers are targeted. Recently a consumer lost $1,400 after purchasing two Macaws online and became suspicious when they were asked to pay an additional $4,000 for freight." Consumer Protection WA.

18.01.2022 Covid-19 update. Weve had a few questions relating to the risk of coronavirus in our pets. The following was recently released by the Australian Veterinary Association. On the evening of the 4th of March, Hong Kongs Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department issued a statement that a Pomeranian, belonging to SARS-COV-2 positive patient, has repeatedly tested positive for the virus. It is believed that this is a case of human-to-animal (reverse zoonotic) transmissi...on. The Hong Kong authorities detected low levels of the SARS-COV-2, which causes COVID-19, from nasal and oral cavity samples on the 27th of February. They repeated the test on the 28th of February and 2nd of March on the dogs nasal and oral cavity samples. Both subsequent sampling events returned a weak positive for the virus. The Hong Kong authorities believe this finding may indicate the dog has a low-level of infection, and that it is likely to be case of human-to-animal transmission of the virus. The dog has not shown any clinical signs of disease and is currently being held in quarantine. At this stage there is no evidence that dogs can play a role in the spread of this human disease, or that they become sick. During the 2003 SARS outbreak, a small number of cats and dogs tested positive for the virus, but did not demonstrate a role in transmitting the virus to other animals or people. Whilst pet owners should always use good hygiene practices, including hand hygiene before and after handling animals as well as their food, we do not believe there is reason for pet owners to be otherwise concerned. While this is an evolving situation, at this stage, pet owners who may become infected with SARS-COV-2 should take precautionary steps to limit their close contact with their pets and practice appropriate hand hygiene practices before and after handling their pets. At no stage should pet owners take measures that may compromise the welfare of their pets. The primary source of SARS-COV-2 transmission remains human-to-human contact, and the best way to reduce your risk is to practice effective hand hygiene.

14.01.2022 Update At this point we have not encountered any operational issues and are still fully functional. But as you can imagine, we dont know when that could change. Veterinary Hospitals are classified as an essential service and they will remain open, subject to having available staff and other resources. Capacity may be reduced if we start losing team members though.... So with this in mind, we encourage the following. 1. If you know your Pet is due or overdue for one of their regular health checks, get it done now while we are still fully functional. 2. If your Pet needs on going medication, and you wish to pick it up, email us via [email protected] a day or two prior and we will have it ready for you. 3. If your Pet is on one of our special diets, you can also email ahead and we can put it aside for you. 4. If there is a risk that your Pets may need to be placed into Kennels or Cattery care due to unforeseen circumstances, make sure they are up to date with all the Vaccinations. 5. 09.01.2022 Covid-19 Update. Just like the rest of the community we are grappling to mount a response to this new impost on our way of life. Weve been actively protecting ourselves and customers by following the health department guidelines, regularly washing hands, and cleaning the workplace surfaces etc.... But the main advice we are receiving is to practice social isolation. And with this in mind, today weve had one of our Vets place themselves into self isolation. Hopefully it is just a precaution, but we understand that this wont be the last time we will need to take such precautions. For this reason though, we have closed the practice early today. We thank you for your support. We will get through this together.

09.01.2022 When we reopen at 8am tomorrow, we ask that you follow the recent government guidelines. If you have been instructed by Health Officials to remain in self-isolation, we ask that someone else brings your Pet to the Vet. When entering the building, we ask that you check in on the SafeWA App and wear a mask.... And we ask that only one person comes into the building with each patient so we can observe the 4 metre rule.

Keep phoning ahead if you need to order repeats of drugs or food. But understand that some items are now taking a day or two extra to get to us.
