25.01.2022 Big shout out for everybody who supported our Annual Golf classic. Thanks to the other clubs within WA for making the effort to get out and lose some golf balls with us, we will see you on your golf course to do the same! Thanks to our organisers Johnny O Donovan and @Shea McLoughlin for all the hard work behind the scenes to make it happen. Big shout out must go to everyone who sponsored holes, longest drives, closest to the pin ect... way too many to mention but we really ...appreciate your support as always! To our main sponsor Pipeline Technics for going all out entering three teams but unfortunately none managed the leader board although we hope you enjoyed the day! Our eventual winners were as follows: 1st place, Seamus Martin Team 2 2nd place, Seamus Martin Team 1 3rd place, Dermie Friel’s team (might need a recount here teacher) Well done to all our winners, we hope you all enjoyed your day and we’ll see you all again next year with lower handicaps please god. Stay safe!

25.01.2022 IF CARLSBERG EVER DONE COMEBACKS, THIS WOULD BE ONE!! With Greenwood not having won a league title since winning 1981 we thought this one had slipped away, the writing was on the wall and all looked dead and buried... Talk about hunger and character, well picture this... ... 18 minutes to go, 10 points down, backs against the wall and gasping for water. An all or nothing drive for the last quarter of the game, chipping away at points, pressure, composure, work rate, heart and determination, the lads worked tirelessly to kick 11 unanswered points to claim victory with the last kick of the game, a free, straight over the black spot! League number two is in the bag after a long 39 year wait! Have to give it to all the supporters on the day too, all the kiddies out in force shouting their daddies over the line in their new jerseys! It doesn’t go unnoticed! Have a look back at some pics from 1981, now that’s what you call a retro jersey! Some outstanding performances yesterday with Aodhfin Grehan taking away the man of the match award. Best on ground were: @Aodhfin Grehan Seán Mallon Donal Ryan #foottothefloor

23.01.2022 Saturday wasn’t to be for the lads in white and blue, we were beat by a more hungry St Finbarrs team.. a big congratulations to them on a great performance. From everyone here at Greenwood GFC we would like to thank everyone for their support throughout 2020... Obviously not the year anyone had planned but we are all so thankful to be where we are playing the game we love with the friends and family we’ve made. ... We will re-group when the time is right and go again!! A couple of men here needing a special mention, firstly our leader and manager @Shea McLoughlin, of coarse none of this would be possible without this man and if we weren’t difficult enough on our let’s remember Shea has made time for us between undergoing knee surgery at least twice this year and rumour has it he is back in the blue gown having a small procedure to remove the steel plate from the original operation. So Shea thank you very much for all you’ve done and we all wish you a speedy recovery. Next up a man that’s made the return to the club in a big way @Marius Flanagan (not on FB) but will be made sure to hear how much we appreciated his influence as selector this year. Thank you very much Marius! To our main sponsor Gay Collins from Pipeline Technics your generosity, continued support and valued input is always more than appreciated with everyone involved in this club! Gay has also gone under the knife in recent weeks so again we would like to thank you very much and wish your a speedy and pain free recovery! To The Mighty Quinn Tavern for your support throughout the year, the grub the pints the celebrations and all the above, thanks very much! To all the players, all the mad men that agreed it would be a great idea to let Shane Barton and Kieran Brannigan control the running groups back in February, rocking up in Yokine to run in weather so bad the cones had to be picked up off Alexander Drive, training 8 nights a week and twice Sunday mornings, before and after mass , thank you very much for buying into the whole situation and always stretching your calves first! Congratulations to Donal Ryan on picking up the WAGAA Player of the year award for 2020. A power house which was obviously noticed across the state. APOLOGIES FOR ANYONE I FORGOT!! #friendsawayfromhomearefamily #wintogether #losetogether #teamofus #thatlinkwontbebroken #calves

23.01.2022 AFL Last Man Standing Who can't wait for the footy to start this week? Why not spice it up and have a bit of banter by entering our Last Man Standing competition !... For those new to it, The idea is simple: You pick one AFL team each week that you think will win their match! If they win, you’re through to the next week! Lose, you’re out! You can only pick the same team once! Last man/woman standing takes home the money! Enter through any Greenwood GFC player or private message this page or watsapp message Chris Bradley as per the poster.

22.01.2022 Best of luck to the Greenwood lads Joseph Mcmanus Colin Doherty and Matthew Bissett playing in the WA Hurling League Final in RA Cooke today! Throw in @2pm

22.01.2022 Hello everyone, just a few late changes to the golf classic coming up on January 31st. First change is that we are now teeing off at 7am, so we would ask all golfers to please arrive no later than 6:30 for registration. Second change is that it is now shotgun start which means we will need everyone to be on time and get sorted, get to the tee box you are nominated so we can all finish around the same time (besides the lads who prefer the cross country route through the tree...s ) There are roughly 40 carts available so it’s first up best dressed or phone ahead to secure your cart. Hillview have notified us that they will cook breakfast (tea/coffee and a bacon & egg roll) for a small fee of $5, can you please notify one of the organises (names and numbers on the poster below) if you and your team mates would like breakfast, i.e captain Johnny x4 breakfast x4 There will be a drinks cart doing the rounds on the course, can I remind you all please NO BYO! LASTLY if you can’t make it on the 31st but would like to support by sponsoring a hole, longest drive etc the options are attached below. https://cdn.fbsbx.com//Greenwood-Sponsorship-Golf-Classic- Thanks for all the support and co-operation to date. 22.01.2022 Different year, same routine, recovery session and a big feed at The Mighty Quinn Tavern after yesterday’s semi final win. With Gael Force winds and a very strong Western Shamrocks side it was tough work to get over the line, again it took some cool heads to settle the ship and get the win! Huge task next week as we challenge for the Championship!! More details and live stream info to follow in the coming week. Best on ground ... Mark McCabe Aodhfin Grehan #foottothefloor Greenwood Abu

21.01.2022 Greenwood lads have made it to the 2020 Championship final and below are some details about you can watch it from here or accross the water!! #foottothefloor

20.01.2022 Saturday nights end of year ball was another great Greenwood night out. Credit firstly must go the organiser for the tine and effort put in to make the place look as well as it did. Thank you. Thank you to Irish Club Western Australia for having us, your hospitality was first class and greatly appreciated. Thank you to Craic N' On for supplying the music on the night that had everyone up on the dance floor. ... First presentation was mad to our sponsor Gay Collins from Pipeline Technics, Gay was presented with a framed jersey from the historic 3 in a row for his continued support and also to mark his business anniversary of 10 years. Congratulations Gay and all at pipeline for reaching this milestone and thank you for all you do for the club. Next up was Greenwood Hall of Fame, unfortunately this man left us to go home to the motherland a few years ago now but again without this mans efforts, time and dedication within the club we would not be where we are today, leaving us in the best possible position upon his departure. Kevin Rogers we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for everything you had done for us within this club. Club man of the year goes to @Daryl McLoughlin, as well as being a key member to the starting 15 Daryl’s work behind the scenes is second to none and didn’t go unnoticed this year! Thank you Daryl!! Aodhfin Grehan took away the players player of the year award. Solid as a rock in the backs all year, never took a back step, drove at the opposition and chipped in with a few points aswell. Donal Ryan was awarded player of the year by the manager, first year involved with the club and slotted in like he’s been here years. An outstanding year with plenty more to see please god. See you all soon over the off season for some well deserved pints! Greenwood Abu See more

18.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart we say goodbye to our good friend and club mate @David Kenny. David lost his battle to cancer which he fought so bravely and right to the end. David was well known around the club from either celebrating victory’s, sponsoring gear or playing in our annual golf classic which he looked forward to every year, although with his preferred lie some of his scores could have been questionable. We here at the club would like to extend our deepest sympathie...s to his wife Mairead and 3 young children Jack, Eoin and Donnacha who he leaves behind. We would also like to extend our sympathies to his Mother Eileen, Father Joe as well as brothers Bobby and Karl and sisters Aileen and Joanna at this extremely difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam Davy funeral will be held today (Monday) at 2pm (6.00am Irish Time) in the West Chapel at Fremantle Cemetery. His service will be live streamed on the link below. 16.01.2022 A Chara, it with great sadness we have learned of the passing of Paddy Flanagan, father of club man Marius back in Ireland. Marius is currently a selector with our senior men's team. He is a former president and player with the club. Marius love of football he no doubt inherited from his late father. Especially tough with the distance and the times we live in. We will stand with Marius and give him support should he need it. RIP.

Happy Birthday to our hero Matty B! A few quiet ones in The Mighty Quinn to mark the occasion last night after training.

14.01.2022 A huge welcome to Greenwood’s newest member, Grace McConnell. Grace will take up the corner back position in the women’s 2038 team, but let’s hope she’s a bit quicker and cuter than her daddy! We’ve been told mammy @Lisa Mackin was brilliant while daddy @Brian McConnell didn’t do too bad either. Enjoy the sleepless nights ahead.

10.01.2022 SAME SAME BUT DIFFERENT... SAME - midweek game SAME - result DIFFERENT - opposition ... Last night the Greenwood lads took on Southern Districts for their rescheduled fixture that was to take place a week and a half ago! This game went right to the wire. With plenty of miles in the clock and not much rest time it was a low scoring game... Greenwood went in at the break in the lead on a score line of 5 points to 3 and managed to hold that lead right until the end even after a strong surge by the lads in maroon and white to run out 1 point winners on a score line of 1.7 to 1.6.... Next up for the lads are St.Finbarrs GFC this Saturday at 4:30pm in Tom Bateman Reserve... Best on ground last night were: Aodhfin Grehan Terry Hetherton Donal Ryan #foottothefloor

09.01.2022 A cold foggy winters night was the forecast for last nights clash with Southern Districts. A brilliant display of football was put on by the lads, a few wides in the opening half before zoning in the radar in the second half. Score line had us leading by 2-1 at half time and with the fog getting heavier it seemed like it was going to be a low scoring affair for the night. The lads came out in the second half and never took their foot off the gas, strong running from the bac...ks helped set up some brilliant scores from the forwards and midfielders with the usuals working hard around the middle 8. Hard work and determination were the keys to getting us over the line. Game finished 14 points to 4 in favour of the lads in white in blue! A fantastic game to watch from the line! Best on ground were: Seán Mallon Donal Ryan Kieran Brannigan #foottothefloor

08.01.2022 Nice win on Saturday evening over Morley Gaels, hard fought again although the score line shows 2.12 to 1.2 it wasn’t easy! Best of ground were: Terry Hetherton Shane Gaffney Donal Ryan... Poor Gaffo done that much work up and down the field he had to shoot home for a nap before heading out for a well earned pint!

Shout out to Ryan Hogan who took away the prize money in the point scoring competition with a peach of a point off the outside of the boot! Also can’t forget to mention the Chef tonight, Thomas Loughlin, ruled out of training because of injury Tommy took on the BBQ duties! If it’s brown on the outside it’s cooked, isn’t it? Well we hope so Tommy lad. #foottothefloor ... See more

02.01.2022 The club would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Sean Cassidy a former player with Greenwood especially his mother and his father Brendan who was involved in the Greenwood set up for years. Sean passed away at the young age of 30 in a road traffic accident in the Northern Territory where he lived and worked. Sean was full of life , had a great sense of humour and was also a talented footballer. He will be sadly missed by all. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
