19.01.2022 Another beautiful gift from the #garden....Still harvesting our #delicious crop of Cauliflower 'Mini'. Did you know that cauli's are considered one of the few foods that contain almost every single vitamin and mineral your body needs to function at an optimal level, especially Vitamin C? It's packed with #antioxidants, is naturally high in fibre and other nutrients such as Vitamin K, B6, Potassium and Magnesium... all of which are essential for peak brain and body function. H...mmm... Now ... decisions, decisions! Cauliflower rice? Roasted cauliflower steaks? Whole Roasted Cauliflower? Cauliflower Fritters? Stir-fry Cauliflower? How do you like to prepare your cauliflower? #growyourown #homegrown #foodisthymedicine #urbanfarmacy #organic #seasonal #fresh #plantlife #cauliflower #eatrealfood #plantsforwellbeing #permaculture #greenyourworldlandscapedesign #naturesgifts

05.01.2022 Heads of the brilliant brassica, Broccoli 'Green Dragon'. This incredible winter veg has been so easy and rewarding to grow through the the colder months. ' Its trickiest enemy is the pesky white cabbage moth who loves to visit and lay its eggs on the underside of all brassica leaves. Larvae can quickly decimate this group of plants. Regular checks to remove eggs and caterpillars by hand has been my #organic method of choice to maintain normal plant growth and development.... #Broccoli is a remarkable veg in that it is rich in Vitamin K which is known to enhance cognitive function and improve #brainpower. Woo-hoo! It's a great source of fibre and protein, contains iron, potassium, calcium, selenium and magnesium as well as #vitamins A,C,E and a good array of B vitamins including folic acid. Great to have this #nutritionalpowerhouse growing in our very own #backyardpantry. #growyourown #homegrown #chemicalfree #foodisthymedicine #eatseasonally #seasonalproduce #foodplants #plantsforwellbeing #permaculture #smartdesign #nature #landscapedesign #growfoodinsmallspaces #icanteachyou #greenyourworldlandscapedesign #ediblegarden

03.01.2022 Fascinating scientific insight into Nature’s Internet: the ‘Wood Wide Web’...explaining how trees communicate, learn things, protect and care for each other through underground pathways. Love it!

02.01.2022 My broad beans are growing brilliantly! Pretty flowers blooming, busy bees pollinating, pods growing daily...time for harvest very soon! I always have double motives when planting my seasonal crop of broad beans. Just like most legumes, broad beans improve soil fertility by adding nitrogen to it. Healthier soil equals healthier plants AND healthier plants means a MUCH healthier you!... I love the science behind it, so I will explain further! Plants need nitrogen to grow but they can't use the nitrogen that's in the air. Legume plants (like peas and beans), get around this problem by providing a home for nitrogen fixing bacteria (rhizobia) in nodules on their roots. Nitrogen fixing bacteria use an enzyme called nitrogenase to convert nitrogen from the air to ammonia which provides essential nutrients for the plant. In return, the plant provides the bacteria with a food source, sugar. When the plant dies, the fixed nitrogen is released into the soil for other plants to use. How cool is that?! This symbiotic relationship between bacteria and plant is so important... this process helps the bacteria population in the soil THRIVE which, in turn, improves soil fertility and the optimises the health of plants. GROWING TIP: Grow legumes in your veggie garden every year to improve soil fertility and YOUR health! #broadbeans #permaculture #obtainayield #integrateratherthansegregate #bean #groworganically #organicgardening #symbiosis #growyourown #eatyouryard #urbanfarming #urbangreenspace #urbangardener #suburburbangardener #foodplants #kitchengarden #backyardpantry #greenthumb #garden #bean #garden #foodisthymedicine #homegrown #adelaide #backyardscience #icanteachyou #gardening #greenyourworldlandscapedesign #gardeningaustralia #spring #earthcare #eatfresh
