19.01.2022 Before Covid-19, every week, a bunch of rowdy, fun-loving, banter savvy women would gather at the shop, to socialise and to learn sewing skills. More than five years on, 2020 saw the Greeves St. Sewing Group master Zoom skills in order to continue to meet through lockdowns. But now it is 2021! Full of hope and fresh ideas. The group is back at the shop, with an awesome team of jewellers, who are teaching the fundamentals of creating a saleable range of products. We are very ...grateful to D.H.H.S. and to Westpac Bank for their support for this project, and to our jewellers, Nicky and Maria from Leoni & Vonk and to Sharon from Spliced Eco Fashion Please note: these classes are limited in number and to women with lived experience of street work.

19.01.2022 PEACE: only 3 weeks to go... "There was always that feeling sleeping on the street at night-time, you know...and all the worry and anxiety that came from that?... And then I’d always be, even a couple of hours early, every single morning, waiting outside the drop in centre, just so I could have that peace of mind and safety and somewhere to stay during the day and people to talk to; having coffee and food with friends." 18.01.2022 This year St Kilda Gatehouse were excited to participate in Victoria's Review into Sex Work headed up by MP, Fiona Patten. In mid-October she handed her findings and recommendations to the Victorian Government. The Victorian Government is yet to publish her recommendations but the following is an interview with Fiona on 3CR's show: https://www.3cr.org.au/behindcloseddoors

16.01.2022 Last week our 6 week jewellery making course began with a focus on design principles. Women used magazine photos as inspiration for colour and form. Drawing, selecting beads, mood boards and laughter were the main activities. Thanks again to Leoni & Vonk and Spliced Eco Fashion Jewellers. We are so lucky to have you all on board.

08.01.2022 Our last post before Christmas 2020. Hope this encourages you and shows just how important even shopping at our Greeves St. shop is, in supporting the women and girls we work with at St Kilda Gatehouse. Thank you!

05.01.2022 "I love that Greeves St. is not just a shop. That doesn't sound great - because we all LOVE the shop, but what I mean is the shop invites the women we support to participate in a number of truly unique ways. As a Greeves St. customer you may not be aware of this.... The women we support, whose lives are affected by so many complex factors such as addiction and homelessness, often pop in to the shop. Actually, one just wandered in as I am writing this. She is semi-regular and usually looks for toiletries and a handbag. She wanders in and is greeted warmly by our volunteers. She knows where to fossick out the back of the shop, and she knows she can take one complete outfit once a week. We leave her alone to look for goodies and she is always polite and considerate. Another woman popped in earlier today. Sometimes she will grab an item of clothing for herself, but usually she comes to visit so she can help sort things out for us. She volunteers by reorganising storage tubs and she sometimes cleans. She is always sweet and generous. Last Friday a young woman visited to attend our craft group for the first time. She was keen to connect with our community as she had only recently moved into the area and she was able to hang out and learn how to make bracelets as women are currently learning jewellery making. And then, sometimes, women pop in for a chat and a coffee, or to use the computer or to debrief. It is a strange but heart-warming privilege to work in this shop, which is not just a shop."
