04.01.2022 Before and After Diet/Program Truth!!!!!! Today a member of our Activ8 Gym sent me a very interesting article which i could not agree more with. The article was based around the fact that as much as there are plenty of great diets, programs, trainers, experts, coaches etc, the before and after photos can get people caught up in the moment and if not looked at in the right way can actually have a negative effect on the individual involved. Take 90 day diets for example. Yes th...ey can get you to drop weight and train flat out but at what expense? Are you doing it in a way in which you can maintain that weight with a normal healthy lifestyle? I apologise to those who i am about to maybe offend but is cutting your diet down to basically nothing a healthy thing to maintain for the rest of your life, i say no. Is living your life, enjoying different foods and doing an ongoing "realistic" amount of training each week an answer? I say YES!! Now don't get me wrong this doesn't mean you can eat everything whenever you like, BUT you can look at menus at restaurants and weigh up the healthiest option, enjoy the company of your friends and family without eating out of a container which you prep'd before you came. I have discussions with other trainers at our gym often and we all agree counting your macro's is easily the best way to keep on top of your diet and be consistently eating well enough to reach your goals weather its losing weight or gaining muscle. What i don't agree with is doing it in a dramatic manner which is never going to be held for a long period of time meaning clients fall off the wagon and end up going backwards. This then at times leads to a fractured level of motivation, self doubt, negativity and most of all more behind the 8 ball then when you first started. I personally enjoy seeing my clients losing weight at a consistent rate even if it is low, never gaining weight but always losing and most importantly always adjusting there lifestyle and choices resulting in a happy, positive, and energetic client. Forget about the quick, stressful, gut wrenching diets that you end up never maintaining. Just focus on a life of healthy eating choices, well-managed stress levels, quality sleep and plenty of movement. Spending time with others that have a positive look at life and your interests are great to surround yourself with also. We all get to our goals different ways but its how you get them and keep them that shows if it really works for your long term health and fitness. See more
