25.01.2022 It is very important that you separate practice and training with matches. There are 2 modes you need to identify. 1. Learning mode 2. Performance mode Learning mode is for trial and error and trying things. It will have errors and mistakes and be used to develop your game to make you ready and consistent for matches. Finding your shot routine and learning to trust a technique is vital to having something to rely on during a match.... Performance mode is for showing up and putting things together for a result. Not for trying anything or practice at all. Too many players try and perform all the time. They must score and remember every game. They do not turn off their game face. Learning mode lets you make mistakes and doing drills to make you a better player. Let yourself be vulnerable and enjoy this for what it is. In a match, be strong and confident in your game and the choices you make. Accept winning or losing and be prepared to deal with both as a good sportsman. Choose your battles and accept the outcomes.

23.01.2022 Don’t use results as a guide to how good you are. It needs to be broken down to see what parts of your game need attention. Analyse your results to identify those areas you were not comfortable and did not play to your best. Once you can prepare to all areas of your game can you feel you are ready to compete. Practice is preparation. Matches show your strengths and weaknesses. Improvement comes from identifying weaknesses and working on them.

23.01.2022 Perhaps the most misunderstood concept in being a Winner is that you must have won something first. This is not true. Whilst the word can reflect an action and a result, it does not show when we become more aware of ourselves. By this I mean that once we can really accept that we have become an increased version of what we already know to be ourselves then we have grown. When we can understand more or be able to have higher goals, then it must be true that we developed the be...lieve that their is more to us and that alone is very powerful. Having a greater reach and being able to see further is truly great. This is when we need to allow ourselves to admit that we have become a Winner. Go out and seek that extra inch or that increased vision and be satisfied that you have achieved a winning attitude and then use it to attain more and more. See more

21.01.2022 Always ask more from yourself, never get complacent. Keep wanting more. Quote from The great pool player Ralf Souquet - Satisfaction is the first step backwards

19.01.2022 Regardless of how good or bad your preparation is for an event, remember to never assume this will be how you will perform. Sure, practice is vital but there will be times you don’t prepare as you would have liked. So it comes down to how you feel on the day and a very important thing is to never predict. You must take every moment as I comes. Any expectations can make you assume a result before it happens. Stay in the now and do your best. Anything is possible if you believe it.

19.01.2022 As restrictions are slowly lifted and we can start to play some pool or snooker again, we must realise that our game will not be the same as before. Not playing and watching videos will make us very keen to play and in some cases give us false hope that we will be as good as ever. This is not the case. It will take some time to find our game again. So take the time to focus on your fundamentals and reinstall those processes that we must use. Be patient and most of all respect the new rules and be safe

17.01.2022 If you can imagine achieving a goal and see yourself doing it can be a huge boost towards actually being able to achieve it. Only thinking about doing something is only half of what you need to do. Visualisation is what many athletes and sports people do to mentally or subconsciously see themselves completing a task or a target goal. Continue believing and keep achieving.

15.01.2022 Learning new things is the key to growth. Never feel you can’t learn anything because this will stop you keeping up with change. Look to learn something every day. But even more rewarding is to share what you learn. Keep the Earth turning.

15.01.2022 Relates to many platforms, not just basketball.

13.01.2022 You don’t have win to achieve. You can learn and become a better player simply by being in a contest. Whether practice or competitions, there are many things to gain. In practice you learn your limits and in competition s you learn to understand those limits and play to your strengths. Practice is for pushing those limits and competition is for control.

13.01.2022 Watching or playing sport provides an adrenaline rush that we all need. It is something unique to sport and currently we are searching for a substitute during these challenging times. We could keep watching replays but their is something else we can do. Find a place you can relax and be free. Close your eyes and take yourself to your favourite sporting place. Whether you are watching or taking part. Now visualise being there and feel everything about that place and experienc...e. The sights, sounds, smells and most importantly what it means to you when you are there. Your mind can create it and you can be there to enjoy all of it. Don’t rush it and give yourself the chance to once again Love Sport. Be safe

13.01.2022 The best way to show your top game is when you are happy and enjoying yourself. If you find that things are hard and not enjoyable then look to focus on something that makes you enjoy what you are doing. Maybe it’s a part of your game that is feeling good or working well. Start with something that is always solid and try and spread the good feelings to other parts of your game. Once you can stop over thinking and just play, your true game will show through.

11.01.2022 We can practice for years and not ever get to the level we want. It can be frustrating and make us feel deflated. Try setting small goals so that we can begin to achieve something. Before a practice session, write down some things you want to work on or targets you want to reach. Afterwards tick off the ones you did. This is the start of reaching goals. Slowly you will see that you are able to be successful. Then make your goals bigger and use your winning attitude to make it happen. Good luck

11.01.2022 I just saw an interview with Selby and O'Sullivan and they were asked about winning the big events like the World Championships on now. Ronnie said there is one thing that stands out. It's Pressure and who can handle it. He said you either have or you don't! To be honest you can learn to deal with it but it's takes a lot of self analysis. Also you need to be in control of your thoughts and then you have a chance, not huge, but a chance. Control your shots and your mind and learn to think like a winner. Believe in yourself and don't play shots you haven't practised.

11.01.2022 When you have a very good practice, it is important that you do not get over confident with yourself. Understand that it is merely a strong indicator that you are correctly following your processes. Whether you continue to practice or enter a competition, you must continue to follow your processes. Only then can you give yourself a chance to succeed. Nobody can predict the future so don’t try or think you know what will happen. Practice, prepare and then perform.

11.01.2022 We all want to be able to play at some level and then maybe we would like to improve. Don’t know how to but it’s worth the challenge. So many great videos now of coaching tips and the best players playing each other, that we are spoiled for choice. Don’t overload please. Start with an idea and try it. See what happens and move on. Do not be impatient and if you meet a good player simply ask for their advice or help. Be prepared for set backs and also some improvements but stay honest with yourself and plan to improve and not get rushed to concur the work too early. Most of all always enjoy and have fun.

09.01.2022 We all look to become successfull at whatever we take on, whether it be a sport or a job or even as a person. Nobody plans to fail at things but winning is not always an option. Being a part of something can in fact allow us to achieve something. The important thing is to have a go and see what happens. Wishing we had at least tried is quite often our regret. Never be afraid to try and never be worried about not succeeding. All Champions and very successful people know the meaning of having a go. Life is out there, so go and explore and enjoy it.

07.01.2022 Confidence comes from believing you have the skills to perform. Obtaining the skills comes from practice. Knowledge comes from experience that you gain from competing and analysing your results helps you gather the information to enable you to understand what you need to be able to win.

06.01.2022 The biggest mistake we make when we compete is to be in a results driven mindset rather than a process driven one. If we are in any way thinking about the result or thinking how we may perform or perhaps how our opponents may perform, this will distract us from simply performing ourselves. We must not predict about anything related to our competition. This can lead to putting pressure on ourselves and make us feel anxious as to whether our predictions will come true. It is un...necessary and it is a good idea to remind ourselves during competition that I do not know what is going to happen. This will actually help us to relax and re focus on our processes. We have prepared and practiced while focussing on our processes and this is what we have learned to trust as our best chance of being at our best. The truth is that we do not know what will happen. In fact nobody knows so never slip into thinking about it. Stay in the now and remember to be processes driven. GJ See more

06.01.2022 In preparation for a competition try and focus on your game and not any other players. Only then can you be able to produce your best.

05.01.2022 The only true indication of our ability is during competition. If you think you are at a certain level in practice you need to have the realisation that it is only practice. To test yourself away from competition you might play someone for money or a value that puts you under some pressure. Without this option you have to wait till the next competition to see where you are at. The best alternative is to have a shot routine and be able to manage the other variables that appear when you play a match, like how do you feel or who am I playing against or why am I playing. Once you can manage these thoughts and be able to put them aside so all that’s left is you and the table, you might have a chance to show your real game. Good luck

04.01.2022 It’s quite amazing that the more we learn, we still let ourselves down with the basics. As much as we practice those awkward and difficult shots we must also practice the basic fundamentals that bind all of our shots. Having a shot routine allows us to maintain the focus on things like Finding the shot line, staying on the shot line, being smooth on the shot, staying still and accelerating through when striking the Cue Ball. Become solid with your shot routine and eliminate those lazy, careless, basic mistakes.

01.01.2022 Achievement comes in many different ways. If we rely on results to feel a sense of achievement then we may never feel that we are reaching any great heights. What we need to focus on is an improvement of awareness during competition so that we can feel like we have the opportunity to understand where our mind is at during particular moments. It is vital to be able to take stock and know what we are thinking and where it is coming from. Is it constructive or destructive? As we are involved in an important decision, try to be sure that it is a helpful thought to us and what we need to be able to achieve our goals. Real focus comes from relaxed concentration. Don’t rush yourself until you are ready and thinking clearly and with drive and determination.
