11.01.2022 Being a script writer looking for that break, I read a lot about the movie industry - for both here and in the US. Sometimes what I come across is appalling; sometimes pleasantly surprising - but always a good barometer of the mood of our nations. The current move for equality between the sexes here in Australia is stronger and better focused than it was in the 1970s, which was heavy on symbolism, rhetoric and esoteric philosophizing - but not much else.... Today, the movement is more pragmatic, forged by the intransigence of a corrupt "boys club" body politic. And it will succeed. I only hope that success embraces First Nation women in remote and rural locations. The reason I bring this up as that this movement has been chugging along quietly for a few years in Hollywood in an effort to get equal representation in the industry - part of a real concern over gender inequality in the wider community.
