23.01.2022 Thought I would show how my face is progressing thanks to some magic called Chlorsig that the hospital gave me. Neck is OK but because there was some concern about a C6 disc issue I'm in the neck brace for 2 weeks until review by the doc. As for my forearms and leg gashes - well I think they well need a good few weeks to resolve. For those who were more concerned about my bike than me well it did not fair so well - it is a write off - luckily it was insured (thanks GIO). Agai...n thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at St George Hospital not to mention the Ambos and Police but especially to the kind people like Ronnie, Gary and others who stopped to help me. My accident really brings home how important early active medical treatment is for recovery from an injury and the need to understand my personal circumstances and needs in order to achieve that recovery. I am looking forward to getting back on the bike and the lesson learnt is - keep your head up.

22.01.2022 In St George Hospital now with a fractured C6 disc in my neck and a gash in my arm that will require surgery. Ran into the back of a stationary ute doing 35 kph on my push bike. The Ute was parked in the bike lane on the road to Kurnell. Yep pretty stupid.

18.01.2022 Day 2 Duneedoo to Mendooran Team Marshall Rough Stuffers Day 2 on the Central West Cycling Trail - Dunedoo to Mendooran. Day 2 on the Duneedoo to Mendooran trail was much easier than day 1 especially for me as I was on support vehicle duty for the second half of the ride which gave me the opportunity to shoot photos with different lenses and angles that you do not get when shooting off the bike while riding.... The ride commenced with the obligatory bunch photo outside the Dundeedo Hotel and then down the street to the silo for a photo in front of the giant Winx mural before heading out of town and onto the dirt. After the Slapdash Creek effort yesterday the first 30K of the ride was on well graded gravel road with very little to no cars with only one short sharp hill (14%) with some loose gravel that a couple of us, me included, found ourselves doing the walk of shame on. The problem wasn’t just the steepness but it’s combination with very loose gravel. Halfway up I found my front wheel lifting and as I leaned forward to ground it my back wheel started to slip, and I was done. It was too steep to get back on so like a couple of the others I found myself walking the 50M to the top. Apart from that little walk it was an easy and comfortable ride with very pleasant scenery. About 30K into the ride to again we took a detour this time for morning tea hosted by Sally Dent at her family’s cattle farm Cabbora Station. This was supposed to be for morning tea with scones, jam, and cream. It might be best though if you plan to go there that like us you arrive late morning. Why? Because you won’t need lunch afterwards. Before the scones we had sandwiches, nachos, cake and the best homemade lemon cordial you will ever have. Then of course there was the scones. Sally, a local schoolteacher, is a fantastic host and has a wealth of stories about the history of the farm and the local area. The best $15.00 you will ever spend. Sally can be contacted on 0498542689 if you would like to book a morning tea on your ride. I definitely would recommend . The bunch had a slight delay after our lead scout Cliff who was always 500M off the front headed the wrong way when we got back on to the road and it took us awhile to contact him to turn him around. Cliff managed to do this several times on the journey. 10K down the road it was my turn get off the bike to take over support vehicle duties. I’m told the ride the rest of the way to Mendooran was pleasant and quick. The photos will tell the story of this part of the trail.

17.01.2022 Caught with this two down at North Cronulla while we were having coffee after our Saturday pedal. They had pedaled over from Mount Annon (near Campbelltown). We liked the look of the gravel bike and we got the low down on it. . . ____________________ #cycling #cyclinglife #gravelbikes #gravelridingadventure

10.01.2022 Team Marshall Rough Stuffers Day 3 on the Central West Cycling Trail Mendooran to Ballimore. The Royal Hotel in Mendooran was, in my view, the best of all the hotels we stayed on the trip. The hosts Ky Lee (the owner) and her Dad Ray were fantastic hosts. Oh, and by the way if you are reading this Ray we did meet up with the Doctors on our final night in Gulgong . Day 3 on the first half of the Mendooran to Ballimore trail was officially a disaster. We initially decided to... ride the highway but at the last minute changed our minds and took the gravel trail along the railway big mistake. The trail is technically hard unless you are very experienced on the rough stuff. A lot of sand along the trail but the worst parts were where there were large tracts of very loose gravel with lot of rocks that were as big as tennis balls. Most of us had a spill or two with some falls causing injury. My brother Paul had a nasty fall (see photo) going head first over the front handle bars. I would not recommend this section of the trail unless you are very experienced on this sort of terrain. probaly best for the young ones. Once through that difficult part of the trail the final 40K into Ballimore was very pleasant and easy riding with some of the best scenery along the way. Not withstanding the difficult first half of the ride it was another great day on the bike and much thanks to those who put the ride directions together as it made it easy to navigate as there were a couple spots were it could have been easy to miss a turn. Cliff our trail scout managed to miss a turn. I had a premium version of Ride with GPS so was able to download all the maps to my iPhone and Garmin and could use the maps without Mobile reception. We made it to the Ballimore Hotel around 4:00 PM and Cliff the trail scout managed to not get lost this time and made it in 15 minutes ahead of the rest us and had the beers lined up and waiting.

08.01.2022 Coffee at Rushi

08.01.2022 Team Marshall Rough Stuffers Day 5 on the Central West Cycling Trail Wellington back to Gulgong The Finale. After a night in Wellington starting with dinner at the Historic Lion of Waterloo Hotel followed by a great night’s sleep at the Bridge Motel (with our own ensuite bathrooms luxury ) we started the day without the obligatory photo out front of the motel but instead headed back into town for coffee and breakfast at a local café where we also stocked up on sandwich...es as there was nowhere along the way to buy lunch.. I was on support vehicle duties for the first half of the ride which I was not unhappy about as I was starting to feel all the kilometres we had put into our legs plus it gave me the opportunity to shoot some images from a different perspective from sitting on the bike. This was also to be our longest ride of the trip at around 80K. The first few Ks out of town were pretty easy on bitumen though before we turned off onto the quieter backroads there was a fair bit of traffic to contend with. As we rolled out of town we were surprised to see a massive solar farm. None of us had ever seen one before and it was mindboggling to see the row after row after row of huge solar panels. The first stretch of back road rolled on with long undulating hills though still on bitumen. I must say I was glad I was in the car and not having to pedal up and down the hills. It wasn’t long before we were back on the gravel which would be with us most of the way back to Gulgong though it was some of the best gravel we had ridden along this trail so far not to mention providing some the best photo opportunities as well. Lunch was in a small town called Goolma where I surrendered support vehicle duties and got back on the bike for our final ride of the trip back to Gulgong and a few well earned beers on the back porch of the Commercial Travellers House. Dinner that night was at one of the best Thai Restaurants I have eaten at called Thai to You which provided a great opportunity to wind down and relax before heading back to God’s Country (Cronulla) the next day. A very big shout out to the team that put this Trail together. You did a remarkable job. We all agreed it was probably the best cycling trip we had been on to date (and we have been on a few both in Aus and OS. Anyone thinking about riding this trail should just get on and do it. The riding is great, mostly flat, quiet roads with very, little to no traffic and some of the best gravel you will ever ride. We meet some wonderful people, saw some amazing scenery and parts of the country, me especially, had never experienced in my 66 years.

05.01.2022 Out on the new replacement bike for the one destroyed in my recent crash (thank goodness I was insured). My Rapha kit actually matches the bike - it was a coincidence but I like it. . 05.01.2022 Pedling with the TMC Bunch today (Monday 21-12-2020). It was good to get back on the bike after week off with the bad weather.

04.01.2022 TMC Friday Bunchy to Cape Solander. Shot some images of the Friday bunch ride to Cape Solander from the NCK. Good to see that the bunch stuck together for both passes of that pesky magpie on the Kurnell beach front. I was hoping to get a shot of him dive bombing a poor bike rider but no sign of him this morning. He must have been on "smoko"

03.01.2022 Check the handle bars. I think the bike is a write off. The frame has gouges in it.

02.01.2022 Team Marshall Rough Stuffers Day 4 on the Central West Cycling Trail Ballimore to Wellington. Spent the night at the Ballimore Inn or as I think they prefer it to be known The Hair of the Dog. A great pub that if you are looking to buy a small business in a rural town the pub is for sale. Managed to jag a room with a private bathroom right next to my room luxury . Again, before setting off, we all had to pose for the obligatory photo out front of the pub. 01.01.2022 It's arrived. My replacement TCR. . Thanks Insurace Bikes Australia (IBA), GIO, Chain Reaction Cronulla and especially Michelle Ferris, my case manager at IBA, for a great job getting this all sorted for me. . If you ever doubt whether you need bicycle insurance I'm a good example of why you should. After three crashes (two in SA and one at home here in Cronulla) with extensive damage to my bikes each time I am so glad I had the foresight to cover my bikes as an extension t...o my household insurance policy. . Can't wait to get it out on the road later this afternoon for the Ride 'n' Dine pedal with the local bunch. . . _______________ @chainreactioncronulla @michelleferris @maccamccarthy @macvelo.cc @giantbikesaus #giantbikesaus #cronullacycling #cycling #cyclingimages #cyclinglife #cyclinglifestyle #cyclingphotography #coffeetime #giantbikesaus #giantrevolt #gravelbike #rapha #tcrtuesday See more
