25.01.2022 Really happy to report that our local emergency services have received a significant boost with an expansion of the Public Safety Network (PSN) in the Morisset area. The PSN is a dedicated emergency communications system which provides all our emergency services with a single communications network. It proved particularly helpful during the bushfires earlier this year and supports the RFS, police, Fire and Rescue, ambulance and the SES. It's a $217m network being rolled out across the State and I'm pleased to say that work on that rollout is now complete in the Morisset district. It will be used for all emergencies and will no doubt make a huge difference to community safety.

22.01.2022 COVID UPDATE - Wednesday October 21 My office has had a few inquiries about the number of visitors allowed at your home. As it stands, you're allowed 20 visitors at any one time, IN ADDITION to the residents. From Friday, groups of 30 people will be allowed to gather outdoors in parks etc, but this does not apply to private homes. The Premier has flagged further changes soon, but that's the situation as it stands. There were 10 cases reported statewide over the past 24 ...hours. Of those, eight are returned travellers in hotel quarantine and the other two are relatives of a case linked to the child care centre at Oran Park. The Hunter-New England region has now gone 75 days without a locally-acquired case. There were 24 new cases recorded in WA yesterday but all have been overseas acquired. Victoria recorded 3 new cases in the past 24 hours and no deaths. There was one new case in QLD. Australia's death toll remains at 905 with the NSW toll still at 55 and Victoria's at 817. The number of active cases in NSW is 51. There are 109 active cases in Victoria, 5 in QLD, 44 in WA and 8 in SA. Tasmania, the ACT and NT remain Covid-free. Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult. Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible. See more

22.01.2022 COVID UPDATE - Thursday, October 22 For the first time in many months, NSW has zero Covid patients in ICU. There were 7 new cases reported statewide over the past 24 hours. Of those, six are returned travellers in hotel quarantine and the other is related to a person linked to the Liverpool cluster who was already isolating. For those wondering, NSW is still taking almost all overseas travellers who are returning to Australia, which is why we have a constant stream of... travellers testing positive while in quarantine. The Hunter-New England region has now gone 76 days without a locally-acquired case. Victoria recorded 5 new cases in the past 24 hours but no deaths. There was one new case in WA and one in SA. Australia's death toll remains at 905 with the NSW toll still at 55 and Victoria's at 817. The number of active cases in NSW is 53. There are 109 active cases in Victoria, 4 in QLD, 40 in WA and 8 in SA. See more

15.01.2022 New laws for Airbnb / short term rental industry After two years of waiting, the State Government has finally released the new Code of Conduct for the short-term rental accommodation (STRA) industry (Airbnb etc). My thoughts on this issue are well known and I've been critical of the fact that these laws do not go far enough in regulating an industry that has had significant negative impacts on some suburbs and on many people who suddenly found themselves living next d...oor to party houses and quasi hotels in suburban streets - the same reasons that many cities around the world have banned the industry. Having said that, this new Code of Conduct goes some way towards protecting neighbours and local communities, while also protecting people who 'host' or rent their homes out. They will also go some way towards weeding out the bad hosts and bad guests. You can read the full details on the link below, but here are some of the main points of the new laws: The industry is now regulated in NSW and all homes leased for STRA accommodation must now be registered, along with the property owners. Guests must also have registered accounts before booking. A complaints process is now in place and the sector will be governed by a Commissioner within Fair Trading NSW. If there are two strikes recorded against a property, a guest or a host for breaches of the code in any two-year period, that person or property is banned from the market for five years. Breaches of the code include excessive noise or anything that "unreasonably disrupts or interferes with the regular peace and comfort of neighbours". The code is also designed to protect hosts from bad guests who don't obey the rules, but bad guests can also attract a 'strike' against the property so it's in the interests of owners and hosts to make sure their guests behave themselves. It will be illegal for the likes of Airbnb to list properties, or properties owned by people who have been banned from operating. Very large fines will apply. The same goes for guests who have been struck out or who do the wrong thing, and that includes booking premises under the names of friends or relatives. The new code is very detailed so I encourage people who list properties for STRA, and those who actually use the likes of Airbnb or Stayz or Weekenda, to understand the new laws. The other States are yet to report today's figures, but there were 8 new cases in WA reported late yesterday. 10.01.2022 COVID UPDATE - Tuesday November 24 BREAKING NEWS: The QLD border will reopen to all NSW residents from December 1, the QLD Premier announced today. OUR RECORD UPDATED: NSW has recorded zero community transmission for the 17th day in a row, but that figure has been officially extended to 29 days in a row because it's been determined that the mystery outbreak in Moss Vale 12 days ago was in fact linked to the Liverpool Hospital cluster. 10.01.2022 COVID UPDATE - Tuesday October 27 NSW has recorded 12 new cases in the past 24 hours, but 10 are returned overseas travellers already quarantined, and the other two are household contacts of people already diagnosed in the Oran Park cluster in SW Sydney. My office has had a few inquiries about these returned travellers, so briefly in reply, almost all overseas travellers are arriving back in Australia via Sydney, thus our high number. Many of them are in fact residents ...of other States. The travellers are paying for their own quarantining, although there are obviously further costs for transport and security which is mostly funded by the NSW and Federal governments. So far, that system has been outstanding in controlling or eliminating the spread of Covid coming in from overseas. The Hunter-New England region has now gone 81 days without a locally-acquired case. For the second day running, Victoria has recorded no new cases and no new deaths which is fantastic news. There were no new cases in QLD, NT or the ACT over the past 24 hours. WA and SA are yet to report today's data, but SA recorded three new cases late yesterday. Australia's death toll remains at 905 with the NSW toll still at 55 and Victoria's at 817. The number of active cases in NSW is 54. There are 87 active cases in Victoria, 3 in QLD, 53 in WA, 12 in SA and one in the ACT. Tasmania and the NT remain Covid-free. Please continue to stay safe, vigilant, maintain the social distancing, and wear a mask if you have to visit places where social distancing is difficult. Don't forget, if you have any symptoms, however minor, please self-isolate and get tested as soon as possible. See more

10.01.2022 There’s been a lot going on in the ICAC lately, and a lot of talk about how it and other integrity agencies are funded (agencies such as the NSW Electoral Commission, the NSW Ombudsman and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission). Along with my Independent colleagues, we take matters like these seriously because they are essential agencies, especially the ICAC, and their annual funding shouldn’t be determined by going cap-in-hand to the Government each year and hoping for a go...od outcome. They need a guaranteed funding allocation each year so they have certainty and can get on with doing their jobs. We’ve taken that issue up with Premier Gladys Berejiklian today. The people of NSW need an ICAC and other watchdogs to ensure integrity in the State’s administration, and they need one that is properly and independently funded.
