25.01.2022 Josh, our tiler, came today and put his base for the tiles. He will come back next week to seal the walls and floor and then hopefully put tiles on by Friday. I was busy putting this little cover behind the BBQ area to match the rest of the area. Monday the timber arrives for the Bullnose front verandah and carport I have been planning to do for 20 years. Speaking of 20 years, I put the sewer out through a hole we made in the wall in 1980 when we did the last bathroom renovation (40 years ago) and I finally filled it in this week. I hope the cat that used to live there was smart enough to get out.

24.01.2022 I have been altering my bathroom in the main house, changing the shower and adding a toilet. Next week should see us getting close to complete. I am using Charl...ie Tidswell to do the plumbing and Josh Whitburn for the tiling. I think total cost will be well under $1000. I wonder what this would have cost if I couldn't do most of it myself. 24.01.2022 This is my friend Laurens Van Laurens van Hoek with Nooyen's Welfarrowing freedom farrowing pens. Floors lift sows for the first week and then sow released .

21.01.2022 One adventure comes to an end, the Grandpa flat is complete and there is no more to do so I am about to start another adventure. Who knows where this one will lead. It could lead to a giagantic change in the way the pig industry around the world functions or it could fizz out before the end of the year. Or it could be anywhere in between. But you have been following my Grandpa Flat so you might be interested in following this new adventure. I am certain of one thing. It will be interesting to see who i meet, where I go and if I can make things happen. I am dealing with big companies, big concepts and great industry leaders and systems. I am so lucky to have this opportunity but I have had to work hard to get it. Follow GREG LUDVIGSEN'S PIG ADVENTURE on facebook.

20.01.2022 I am about to start on a new project replacing my Bullnose veranda and incorporating a carport on the side of the house. I commenced by digging the postholes and putting in the post supports today. This involved a lot of work breaking concrete to create holes and using the laser level to ensure all are in line and at the same height. I am pretty happy with today's work. I also paid for the hockey stick trusses and they will be coming from Melbourne Monday.

20.01.2022 Here is the finished tessellated tiling on the front veranda. Well, not 100%. It still requires the rendering along the front and sealing of the tiles. Really happy with the result. Long-awaited. 50 years since we bought the house. 1970.

20.01.2022 Josh came and waterproofed the shower today. Next week he will do the tiling and then I put in the shower enclosure and fittings. The picture of the house down the street is because I start that project to take the old veranda down and put in a new carport/veranda. The timber is in the driveway and I could have included a picture of that if it wasn't dark. I think I have council approval now after a bit of argy-bargy. Why do we allow council so much power? Why should I have to convince them of what I want to do with my property?

16.01.2022 I thought I should show how my bathroom finished up. Brother in Law Daryl helped install the shower surround. Amazing we had just two tiles left from our 1980 purchase after we finished. So much better than what we had before and the cost was minimal. Thanks, Charlie, plumber, Josh, Tiler, and Daryl. Now I am waiting for the letter from Unley council allowing me to build my Veranda extension and carport. I don't understand why the council should even be involved.

15.01.2022 Charlie Tidswell and I completed all the plumbing in the bathroom today. I had excavated the drain and prepared the job while Charlie did a really neat job in completing every part. I now have a little more plastering to do before Josh Whitburn arrives later in the week to do the tiling.

14.01.2022 My tiler started the veranda yesterday. It has been a long wait but I am sure it will be worth it. Adelaide Heritage Tiling has a large collection of Richard's work you can peruse if you want similar work in a bathroom, a veranda or entrance hall, etc. That is two men and one day's work. Tedious getting everything perfect.

14.01.2022 I prepared the job, removed old concrete, squared up and leveled the pad, purchased the reinforcing, laid the plastic and set up the chairs, etc and then Young Harry, my professional concreter & Greek next door neighbour helped organise the pour and screeded and finished the base ready for the tiler. I am really impressed with his work. Call me if you want the name and number of a great concreter anytime. My family has had big input today in choosing the design of the tessel...lated tiles. They have taken me from red to the below pattern in 12 hours. It is pleasing that they also still see this place as their home and want to see it looking as lovely as it can. My tiler is now ready to go once the concrete has cured. Hopefully, It will not rain on the Monday Public holiday, tomorrow and Daryl and I will be able to put the iron on the carport and perhaps begin to do the veranda as well See more

10.01.2022 Brother in law Daryl came down from Balaklava on the weekend to help. We demolished the old concrete on the veranda in preparation for our Federation style tesselated tiles and began putting up the Bullnose iron over the carport. That now has to wait for assistance because lifting and screwing that down is a two-person job. Next weekend we are putting down the new concrete slab. We think road workers should have come to watch two pension age men actually work.

10.01.2022 I realised that I needed to make the spa secure for young children and so I put in this pool fence. I have had the spa checked by a Spa specialist and it's ready to go.

09.01.2022 I finally got to slate seal the Bluestone wall again. Last time was 1972 or 1973 when I first stripped the white paint off, restored the mortar and relined the stone. I took multiple photos of the contrast but those photos I cannot find except one. That does show just how dramatic the change is the other two photos show the effect of two coats of slate sealer on the Bluestone but there will need to be two more coats today. I think you can still see a contrast between the places protected from the sun and the places where all the slate sealer came off over time. I think it is clear that 40+ years between coats is too long but I have had great difficulty finding the same product I used all that time ago so there would not be a reaction between the finishes. I hope you will agree.

07.01.2022 I spent the day working on my own. This was not easy without an assistant to hold the other end and help discuss the method. But I worked out how to design a couple of jigs that allowed me to hold work in place while I worked on the other end and space the rafters evenly and without any mistakes. This is a pretty big task achieved today. Complicated, heavy lifting and balancing on top of ladders. This is where the knowledge gained from my father in law who mentored me in this area pays off. It was another big day. I won't get anything done tomorrow as i am going to Kingston with a mate. More work here Wednesday.

05.01.2022 Here is the update of the work on the veranda roof Daryl and I did on Saturday. Still a work in progress but we get closer all the time. What we are doing is not simple, it is our first attempt and we are proud of what we are achieving. I still have the gutter and a few more things to add. I am sure there will be some surprises to come. I welcome positive comments on the work from Saturday.

05.01.2022 Day 2 of the tiling on my veranda. So much detail to get right. It was sensible to get an expert to do this for me. Richard owns Adelaide Heritage Tiling. Check his website to see the gallery of his work

03.01.2022 Here is the work Daryl and I did this afternoon. He came all the way from Balaklava to help me again. We put the rest of the carport Bullnose iron on and we are happy with the quality of our work. There will be a little delay in getting the front veranda up as I have to re-varnish the Bluestone before my tiler does the tessellated tiles. Eventually, the front of the house is going to look great. Thank you, Daryl. Brotherly love from me and Merrilyn.

03.01.2022 My Brother in Law Daryl gave me a hand today with the return veranda. I have had 12 weeks of battling with a recalcitrant council and only received approval Thursday. How these people can prevent work astounds me. It is a nightmare for business to navigate and they have created an industry designed to frustrate the industrious. Their regulations and processes are a joke. I own the property and it is my right to do with it what I think best. Anyway, today we made great progress. It's really straight level and strong.
