23.01.2022 Heyya all my weather friends, it's about time I started a facebook photography page, and thanks to Severe Weather Australia for the encouragement... those guys are doing great things for the chaser community in helping to navigate the world where media expect free content from hard working and passionate storm chasers whom put time, money, and their lives in the firing line. Check out their page for some of the country's most speccie Australian severe weather photography and footage! https://www.facebook.com/severeweatherau/?hc_ref=ARSszJMk17tHz8CKGyLYI_6VQi4OHurT2PGrE1aVSOdEV3JN9KTu15qqfrfzJHoZNv8&fref=nf

21.01.2022 More of this over the Brindabellas!!!!

14.01.2022 First chance to work on a another pano from the 12th out the back of Holt... this taken as the storm just before it started to go outflow dominant entirely. Nice shelfie as it dragged itself over the Brindies.....

14.01.2022 A Dusty Gusta - strong winds aloft made some juicy outflow on a storm that made its way over the Brindabellas... I had just enough time after work to zip down to the Holt Waterworks looking west... 9 shot pano... 100 - 110km/h winds / dust / horizontal rain / horizontal pea sized hail = a washing machine! 13.01.2022 After a late start to a chase, I managed to tag onto some action in the Picton area just as the convergence boundary re-established on the mountains west of Sydney. At one point, a nice inflow tail shooting into the main updraught area created some nice base structure. I observed pea to 2cm stones at Mowbray Park and pretty heavy rain at times, and copious amounts of lightning. After a quick dinner at Tahmoor, I dashed south via Goulburn to try and head off the Braidwood cell, but it quickly became outflow dominant upon arrival and weakend. If I had my time again I would have continued onto Canberra via the Fed HWY and shoot long distance across Lake George... sure was a great night time show with organized structure illuminated.

13.01.2022 Some intense cells popped up on a convergence boundary ahead of the first rainband today, associated with the developing complex series of lows / troughs in NSW / VIC. Image taken from my local lookout behind Holt looking NW. The cell in the image showed a nice tight guster and some scud formations on the edge of the downdraft. Just a taste tester for the upcoming 24 hours....

12.01.2022 Well, the move is complete up to Cairns - herculean effort I might add. Still many boxes to unpack and furniture to reassemble, but essentially we're all here now. Now the hunt begins on the best eateries, hang out places, and of course, storm vantage points. Cairns isn't known as the epicenter of quality storms, the past few nights we've been treated to a few late night coastal shows. My first chance came about tonight, sneaking out after bedtime with a storm going bonkers 30kms out to sea! So many long distant bolts observed, would have been a sight to see over at Green Island.... now for a teleporter! This shot taken of the distant storm from Cairns marina, certainly not close to my best, but just an intro to living in the tropics I guess!

10.01.2022 Well, it's been a mixed bag the past few days. We've seen surface pressure troughs make their presence felt around the ACT and yet with all the potential for storm outbreaks on Saturday and Sunday, conditions were held back by a dry layer of air sitting above surface moisture being provided by a tropical-like level surface NE in-feed. As chasers we know this layer of dry air as a Capping Inversion Layer. This layer is helpful if it’s not so strong that it can’t be broken as ...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Late to the party due to my on-going farewell tour of friends, but second chances must be taken! Most of these images are of the 2nd wave of storms, albeit weaker than the first round at around 10pm, so I had to manage for a 1am red eye special... Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia Date: 23-24th January, 2018... Licensing available at www.severeweather.com.au/

08.01.2022 The Cairns community comes out in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter global movement and to demand justice for black lives in custody in our country.

07.01.2022 Australia Day 2012 HP tornadic supercell.... simply a violent storm in ideal conditions. The storm put down a short lived tornado in the western suburbs of Canberra. My old chase buddy Troy Barrett drove into the RFD area and it was like being in a washing machine....

01.01.2022 - Canberra severe storms 9th Jan 2018 - Well, today had the potential, but since we've been let down so many times, I wasn’t holding my breathe. Today had a couple ingredients that have been sadly lacking this season: vertical shear ( wind speed increasing with height) and timing of a trigger to get storms developing at a good time during the day. This season has been one of late cap breakers with little time to spare... so it was a nice change up for once! With an approac...hing trough AND advancing southerly change AND together with abundant shear, we were primed for a good show. Canberra had also benefited from some early morning rain at 4am, forcing dew points to rise well into the mid teens by lunchtime once the sun started come through. Storms exploded to the west and NW of Canberra at around 2pm, with HP and LP right splitting supercells racing along at a rate of knots did I mention shear?... where have you been all season for goodness sakes?! I quickly set up out the back of Holt, documenting the initial stages of the parent cells and then the LP splitters. Ben Andrews had the same idea great to see you out there Ben for a bit of chaser convergence! We also got a glimpse from Holt at the left veering HP supercell that barreled through Murrumbateman. The issue with this cell was that the base of the meso was completely rain wrapped and devoid of visible structure I managed to leave Holt and get onto it’s SW quadrant for a time once it passed the Barton Hwy, but all the rain wrapping around made it hard to discern it’s overall form. It’s speed along the landscape made it impossible to get in front of though so I had to let it go once I got to Gundaroo rd to Sutton Rd. Luckily, a nice tail-end Charlie formed west of Canberra, more or less moving with the steering flow. So, I had the opportunity to intercept at Sutton, experiencing some nice outflow of around 80 90 k/h and some pea to 1.5cm hail mixed in with heavy rain. The compact shelfie wasn't too bad either with brief striations, and a great greenage hue. A nice end to a very local chase and it seems a fitting end to 8 years of chasing in Canberra and it’s surrounds this way.... who knows, with 2 weeks to go before I leave for new horizons, maybe another couple of todays would be great!
