22.01.2022 As we progress through life, we gather amazing experiences, adventures and stories that shape who we are as individuals. These are stories that should be shared and celebrated at our final farewell. Ensure your story is told well by writing your own final chapter and pre-planning your own farewell with Gregson & Weight. We have been helping Sunshine Coast families since 1972 and every funeral we create is a truly special tribute.

21.01.2022 Vale Jason Lee Visini 1985 - 2020 Due to covid restrictions, attendance numbers are strictly limited so please seek attendance confirmation from Jason's family. In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate donations to Police Legacy. Donation buckets will be available at the service.

19.01.2022 A big part of our relationship with the Sunshine Coast community has always been our Christmas Memorial services where families could gather and pay respects to those family members and friends who have passed on. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions this year, we are unable to conduct our usual Christmas Memorial Services, however, we will be producing a very special virtual service with a meaningful Christmas message, which can be viewed on our website. As soon as we have it ready, we will post links here so that you can view it from the comfort and safety of your home.

18.01.2022 In a time of so many Covid-19 restrictions, we thought it might be safer for everyone this year to do our Christmas Memorial Sevice online. It certainly offers an opportunity to pause for a few minutes, remember loved ones that have passed on and reflect on just how special they were in our lives. On behalf of all of us at Gregson & Weight Funerals, please enjoy this special time of year and feel free to share. https://youtu.be/3LU68qoAbfo

18.01.2022 From all of us at Gregson & Weight, may we take this opportunity to wish you a Joyous Christmas and a more positive & successful New Year. Whilst we certainly hope you don't need us, be assured our professional funeral staff will be available 24/7 to assist you with any emergencies through the holiday period.

13.01.2022 WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA ACCOUNTS WHEN YOU DIE? We’re often told to be careful what we post online, as it will be there forever even when you die. In the age of social media, everyone’s digital life remains available after their deaths. However, what each social media platform does with accounts when its users pass away varies and also depends on the wishes of the immediate family.... For some people, having the option to visit a deceased person’s social media account can offer comfort, while others prefer that the page is deleted for good when a loved one passes away so some social media platforms offer both options. On Facebook, where millions of users have died and left behind profiles since the site’s inception, the account of a loved one can be turned into a memorial account or closed forever. When Facebook, which sees 8,000 members die a day, first introduced memorial accounts, anyone could report a user as dead which would permanently lock the account and keep it from posting updates or appearing in birthday notifications. However, in 2015, the platform announced a policy that would implement a Legacy Contact who, in the event that a person died, could sign on to the account and pin a post on the Timeline. The Legacy Contact, chosen from someone’s Facebook friends, cannot read the deceased person’s private messages but can change their profile photo and archive posts and photos. Users can also choose to have their profiles permanently deleted when they die, by choosing Settings > General > Memorialisation Settings. Following a loved one’s death, a family member can also request that Facebook removes the profile by sending a death certificate. More information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/help/103897939701143 Instagram also has a similar policy for dealing with deceased users. According to Instagram’s policy, the account of a deceased person can either be reported and then memorialised, or an immediate family member can request that the account be deleted. To memorialise an account, Instagram requires proof of death such as a link to an obituary or news article. With Twitter, you can request the removal of a deceased user's account. After you submit your request, they will email you with instructions for providing more details, including information about the deceased, a copy of your ID, and a copy of the deceased's death certificate. All of this information is obviously based on the family members not having login details. If they do have the logins, they can simply go into most accounts and deactivate them. This brings us to one very practical step, keep in a safe place, known to your executor, a non-digital list of all your computer and social media logins and things will be a lot easier for everyone. 12.01.2022 What to do when someone dies at home As delicate as this subject is, it is something we get asked so often, we thought we should share it publicly. At least it will help prepare you and give you some guidance on what to do should a family member or close friend die in your home. Basically, there are 2 categories that define what you need to do:... Was the death expected, as in - someone who was seriously ill Was the death unexpected, as in - an accident, unclear reason or suspicious behaviour If the death was expected, whereby you are caring for a loved one at home who is unwell and their passing is a direct result of a pre-diagnosed condition, your first call should be to the deceased person’s doctor or hospice nurse. The Nurse or Doctor will issue a life extinct notification. Once that is done you need to contact a funeral director. The Doctors Certificate, known as the cause of death certificate will also be issued. If you are the Next of Kin or The Executor as noted in the deceased’s Will, you will need to choose a funeral director but before doing so, you should check if the deceased had any pre-arranged funeral plans. This could be a Pre-paid Funeral with a selected funeral director, Funeral Insurance or simply a Statement of Wishes saying what they preferred. The Funeral Director will take the body into their care until you make plans for the funeral. The Funeral Director will also assist with all necessary documentation and procedures and supply a date for the service that suits the family. If the death was unexpected, your first reaction must be to call the Ambulance, the Ambulance officers will often call the police as well. The police will attend the scene and assess what has happened. This may include contacting the deceased’s family doctor to see if there were any pre-existing conditions that may have contributed to the death and if the doctor is willing to write a cause of death certificate. If the doctor is unable or unwilling, the body will generally be taken to a State Morgue until the determination is finalised, when the body can be released. You can get all the advice you need from your funeral director who liaises with the Coroners department and hospital daily. Honestly, it is very hard to prepare for a death but at least if you know what needs to be done and who to contact, it may make the process a little easier. As always, our caring staff are at your disposal to answer any questions. If you are caring for a loved one at home and death is likely, it will be very helpful to try and discuss funeral arrangements with them while they are still with you. At least that way you can ensure they get the funeral they really wanted.

10.01.2022 Funerals during the Coronavirus Pandemic June 16th 2020 Update Gregson & Weight take our responsibility seriously when it comes to caring for our clients, staff and the local community. Caring for their mental health is as important as their physical health. We recognise that a funeral service is an important part of the grieving process and for as long as the Federal Government will allow, we will continue to provide high-quality meaningful funerals for families during this ...crisis. State Government guidelines were recently amended to help us all minimise the transmission of Coronavirus throughout our community. As of June 16th, attendees at all funerals are limited to a maximum of 100 people [family members and friends] plus 3 people to conduct the service, including the priest/celebrant, funeral staff and a videographer if the service is being web-streamed. In all cases, the social distancing regulations of 1 person per 4 square metres still apply. These guidelines have greatly reduced the number of people we can seat in our venues but we are happy to advise that all 4 of our locations are large enough to accommodate 100 attendees and still meet these guidelines. Any other venues you may be considering (e.g. cemeteries, churches, community halls and function rooms) can be assessed for attendee numbers at the time of the arrangement. During this difficult time Gregson & Weight, are endeavouring to help families by offering free live streaming to all families if they choose. Just talk to our helpful staff and we can make it happen. Feel free to look through our facilities online, they are undoubtedly the very best funeral venues on the Sunshine Coast. https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/locations/buderim/ https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/locations/caloundra/ https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/locations/nambour/ https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/locations/noosaville/

08.01.2022 GREAT NEWS As of today, we can now have up to 200 people at funerals in Queensland. Our Buderim chapel can accommodate 200 inside and remain compliant with social distancing regulations. Our chapels at Caloundra, Nambour and Noosa can accommodate 160 inside with the remaining 40 accommodated in our adjoining refreshment rooms with full onscreen funeral service streaming. We are offering catering service for 'after funeral' gatherings in our tea rooms but the attendee numbers and foodservice levels have had to be varied to comply with Covid regulations. Our friendly staff are at your service to answer any questions you may have on funerals and cremations at any of our locations.

05.01.2022 Today is the official 'RU OK Day', a day on which people are encouraged to reach out and ask a struggling friend or relative if they are OK but in the funeral industry, every day is RU OK Day. When you deal in loss and grief, almost everyone we meet is suffering some kind of hurt relating to the loss of their loved one. Many put on a brave face and keep their grief inside whilst others pour their emotions out but in reality, they are all suffering. Maybe today is more about reminding us that caring interaction is essential, every day. Grief has no time limit and believe me, it is far more thoughtful to ask how someone is coping regularly, than randomly. They will thank you immensely for asking.

04.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the Cadzow family. Funeral streaming is available at https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/funeral-streaming-centre/

03.01.2022 Our thoughts are with the family of Jason Sissons at this time. Funeral streaming available at www.gregsonweight.com.au

01.01.2022 Good news from Queensland Health this week, with further relaxations of Covid restrictions for funerals. We can now have a maximum of 200 attendees at a funeral where the facility allows. Schedule 1B now allows 1 person per 2 square metres or a maximum of 200, whichever is the greater. It is always best to discuss with your funeral director and get clarification based on how many friends & family you think might want to attend.... If you have any questions at all, just call your nearest Gregson & Weight Office office. https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/contact/
