25.01.2022 Week ending 27th October Well..that's week three of Summer League done and dusted and what a fabulous day it was. Almost perfect weather conditions, friendly competitors and another win! How else would you want to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon? The Grenfell Golden Girls (our moniker for this particular competition), outdid themselves again yesterday, with a convincing win over the Harden Hunnies. All six girls were in fine form, both with their bowling and their antics, ma...king for an afternoon of fun and frivolity. Congratulations Sandy Paine, Kathy Betcher and Rosemary Walter on a convincing win and good luck for Round 4, next Sunday. Unfortunately, due to illness, the Club Triples Championships were won on a forfeit. This moves Suzanne Gault, Judy McAlister & Pat Reid straight into the Finals. This date is yet to be confirmed, but I will keep you posted. Finally, our next monthly meeting will be held on Friday 8th November at 5.30pm. Our main topics of discussion will be Pennant preparations, our Christmas party and Presentation night, but the floor is always open for general discussion about anything that members would like to discuss. The more members who participate, the smoother our friendly little club will run, so please try and attend and maybe stay for dinner afterwards. Dates to remember Our mixed ladies days will remain on Saturdays at 1pm, until the warmer weather settles in. Our Skills, Drills, Coaching and Training days have been postponed until further notice as a new day and time is being considered. We will update you once this has been arranged. Monthly meeting Friday 8th November at 5pm Summer League continues for the next four weeks. Last but not least, best wishes to our birthday girl of the week, Tracey Hunter. Sandy P
23.01.2022 Remember ladies! PENNANT PRACTICE TONIGHT! See you all there!
21.01.2022 Week Ending 13th October Well, what a start to the week. Kathy Betcher and Alison Cutcliffe travelled to Sydney to compete with friends in the Willow Fong 4's Tournament at Merrylands Bowling Club, finishing with a third place win. Congratulations ladies, you did us proud! On Friday, Rosemary Walter, Judy McAlister and LynSteve Galvin represented Grenfell at Harden's 60th Birthday/Presidents Day. The ladies had a wonderful day, with Rosemary scoring a win for a resting to...ucher and also fortunate enough to win a bathroom hamper for the lucky table draw. Not such good news today though, when Sandy Paine, Sonia Ingall and Rosemary Walter were defeated in the first round of Summer League at Young Bowling Club. Heads up ladies, there's still nine more rounds to come. Also this week, a few of our ladies were selected by the District to play in the Inter Regional Friendly Games at West Wyalong on Tuesday and Wednesday. The first team is Rosemary Walter (Grenfell), Lorraine Bales (Boorowa), Suzanne Gault (Grenfell) and Alison Cutcliffe (Grenfell). The other team is Kathy Betcher (Grenfell), Sheila Traynor (Young), Judy Watson (Young) and Freda Hambrook (Cootamundra Ex Services). Good luck ladies! Closer to home, the first round of our Triples Championship gets underway on Thursday 17th October at 10.00am, when Rosemary Walter, Alison Cutcliffe & Julie May Hughes play Sue Gault, Judy McAlister & Pat Reid. Watch this space for dates of the remaining Championship games. Finally, in an endeavour to encourage new bowlers, maximise our skills and generally make our sport more user friendly, it has been decided that our Saturday Ladies Day will now be a Ladies/Mixed day and will commence at 5pm. This will enable bowlers to fulfil their weekend obligations but still enjoy the sociability of this great sport. So ladies, please encourage your partners, husbands and friends to join us and for those who are so inclined, stay for a scrumptious '2 for 1' dinner afterwards. (Grenfell Mens Bowling Club) Dates to remember: Saturday ladies days are back to 5pm Our Skills, Drills, Coaching and Training days are on Tuesdays, with a starting time of 1.30pm. Summer League continues each Sunday for the next nine weeks. Sandy P
19.01.2022 Week ending 20th October Well our ladies are back on track with a hit and a 'near miss' during the week. On the 15th and 16th, four of our ladies represented South Western District Womens Bowling Association in the Regional 'Friendly Games', held at West Wyalong. There were 4 Regions who participated in this event, with our Grenfell girls Kathy Betcher, Rosemary Walter, Suzanne Gault and Alison Cutcliffe, joining forces with players from Young, Cootamundra, Boorowa, Harden a...nd Stockinbingal. Although blustery conditions prevailed , our ladies managed to bring home a second place win! Congratulations to all! Closer to home, the opposition didn't stand a chance, when Kathy Betcher, Sonia Ingall and Sandy Paine brought their best game to Young Bowling Club. Congratulations girls, on a convincing win in the second round of Summer League. 17.01.2022 Unlike some of our City friends, raging temperatures and smoke filled air will not stop us from enjoying ourselves! Fourteen of our stalwarts braved the conditions last night, for our last Super Singles of the year. Delicious hams were won by Sue Gault, Keith Brus and Andrew Armstrong, with chocolates going to Col Parker and John King.... This format seems to be very popular with our bowlers and will resume again on Thursday 9th January. More detailed information will be posted after Christmas, so keep your Thursday's free! Just remember to have your name into the Club (63431656) by 6pm for a 6.30 start. On a side note...for those of you who read my 'blurb' in the paper, may I say it is heavily edited. This is very disheartening , as I try my hardest to bring some light heartedness to what I believe some of the community view, as being a 'boring' sport. One of the missing items was my birthday wishes this week, so I will post it here. "All the best to our birthday girl of the week, Lyn Galvin " Well that's it from me until 2020. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year Sandy P
16.01.2022 What a fabulous night!! Last night was our combined Christmas/Presentation night. We had a tremendous turnout, with almost full rinks on both greens. Weather conditions couldn't have been better, with a nice balmy breeze coaxing our players along, as they determinedly battled to be the last one standing on the 'King' rink. This honour was eventually taken out by Josh Liebich. Congratulations Josh, we hope you enjoy your ham.... Col Parker and Rosemary Walter claimed the two remaining hams and there were also chocolates galore, going to Warren Paine, Daryl Spalding, John Joyce, Sue Gault, Sharyn Bradtke and Julie Hughes. Once the evenings prizes were over, our Presentation night began, with medals and trophies being awarded to our well deserving bowlers. Our Singles Champion was Kathy Betcher with Courtney Hunter as runner up. The pairs were won by Sandy Paine and Kathy Betcher, with runners up being Alison Cutcliffe and Julie May Hughes. The triples were taken out by Sandy Paine, Sonia Ingall and Kathy Betcher, with the runners up being Suzanne Gault, Judy McAlister and Pat Reid. The ladies had a very successful year, not only winning the Kelly Rose Bowl trophy but also taking out a Regional Pennant. Congratulations ladies! All in all, a very pleasant and fun evening. Many thanks to Grenfell Bowling Club for our hams and sausage sizzle. To Courtney for our scrumptious chocolates. Thank you to Leonie, in the kitchen, for turning raw sausages into tasty morsels of deliciousness and thank you to our 'out of town' bowlers for travelling over and helping us celebrate. Super singles will return again next Thursday, with more mouth watering hams and prizes on offer, so why not phone a friend and come and join us? Just remember to have your name into the Club (63431656) by 6pm for a 6.30 start. This will be our last one for the year, but we will be continuing these evenings again as of Thursday 9th January. More detailed information will be posted after Christmas, so keep your Thursday's free Sandy P

14.01.2022 Week ending 29th September On Saturday, we held our Ladies Presidents Day and what a fabulous day it was! Ambient temperatures, a gentle breeze and two greens of laughing, giggling women. The frivolity was most probably due to the 'champagne starter' offered upon arrival! Teams travelled from Young Bowling Club, Lawn Bowls West Wyalong, Cootamundra Country Club, Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen's & Citizens Memorial Club, Boorowa Bowls Club, Forbes Womens Bowling Club, Harden Bo...wling Club, Canowindra Community Bowls & Recreation Club and Cowra Bowling & Recreation Club. Also in attendance were our stalwarts Ray Walter, Martin Betcher, Warren Paine and Barry Bradtke, who wholeheartedly support our each and every endeavour, as do many other of our male counterparts who were unfortunately, unable to attend on the day. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to Grenfell Bowling Club for an amazing luncheon; to Club Manager Bianca Hughes for her ongoing support; to Peter Keppie for the best greens in the West and to Laurel who worked tirelessly to keep us hydrated. Special thanks also, to our ladies Executive Committee , Courtney, Rosemary Walter, Suzanne (Sue), Sandy and Kathy for their contributions to the success of this awesome day; IGA for your kind donation of a fruit box for our raffle and to each of our ladies who also took it upon themselves to supply their own donations. Last but not least, to Lynn and Roberta from Lawn Bowls Accessories and Clothing, who travelled from Penrith and set up shop with a vast array of new and current bowls wear to keep our ladies looking fresh, colourful and up-to-date. The day began with champagne and savoury cheese/meat platters, then out onto the greens for two games of bowls. During the games our bowlers were well looked after, as President Kathy and Sandy walked around with platters of chocolate coated strawberries, a cheese selection, biscuits and dips and the occasional run to the bar for those that were feeling a little 'dehydrated'! This was followed with a hot lunch, dessert and lots of raffle prizes. All in all, a fantastic day with lovely people. We hope you all had a great day and look forward to seeing you again, next year. Who knows what theme our clever committee will surprise us with next time! Dates to remember: Saturday ladies days are back to 10am. Our Tuesday Skills, Drills, Coaching and Training days are back, with a starting time of 1.30pm. The first round of our Club Triples and Fours Championships must be played on or before 12th October. Summer league begins on the 13th October. Our next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday 10th October at 5.00pm, followed by a social game of bowls for those who are interested. Finally, best wishes to our birthday girl of the week, Bev Coleman . Sandy P

Come on down for a chance to win a Christmas ham or to grab a minor prize. Members are requested to have their names into the club by 6pm for a 6.30 start. Also on the horizon, is our combined Christmas/Presentation night. This will be held at 6.30pm on Thursday 12th December. Ladies, if you have not already done so, please show your availability for Pennant, by putting your name on the sheet provided on the notice board. There is also a sheet for the Towning Shield. The Towning Shield is a District selected Regional event, whereby individuals are selected to play in teams of fours. This event is to be played in March at Condobolin. Some of our ladies competed in the last championships for the year, with the final of the mixed pairs being played on the weekend. Congratulations to Lyn and Steve Galvin on your win against Sonia Ingall and Andrew Armstrong. Our ladies will be hosting another meat raffle on Friday 6th December. There will be a roster posted on the notice board and it would be appreciated if everyone could spare an hour of their time to help with these fundraisers. If you are unable to fulfil your roster, please make arrangements for someone to take your place, as these nights are an important way for us to raise money. We will also be hosting a Trivia night on the 13th December after the meat raffle. So, please grab as many friends as you can and head on down. It is a great, fun night and not taken too seriously, but again offers our ladies club a chance to make some money for future needs. On a side note....for those ladies who have memorised their WBNSW ID number and use it accordingly, please note that these numbers have changed, so please check your new cards when you receive them. Our next monthly meeting is scheduled for 5.30pm on Thursday 16th January

08.01.2022 Week ending 6th October MONTHLY MEETING THIS THURSDAY (10th) AT 5PM! Wow! Who can believe we are in October already? The lighter evenings now becoming even longer, with our clocks moved forward and the sun gods playing some serious games with our thermometers. Unfortunately the dust has become our new storm, as we move into yet another summer of bowls.... We still have our Club Championships to play and our Summer League begins in earnest, this Sunday. The first round of our Triples Championship gets underway on Thursday 17th October at 10.00am, when Rosemary Walter, Alison Cutcliffe & Julie Hughes play Suzanne Gault, Judy McAlister & Pat Reid. Andrew Armstrong, Sonia Ingall, Barry Bradtke and Shaz Leigh Miles Bradtke travelled to Nyngan for their Open Triples Tournament; while Kathy Betcher, Martin Betcher and Warren Paine headed over to Boorowa for their tournament. No major prizes were awarded, however Martin had a win for a resting toucher and Warren came home with a nice bottle of wine from the raffle. Not only are these tournaments a great way to have some fun and meet new people, it is also important to offer our support. Especially to the smaller clubs. 02.01.2022 Well hello November.....we've been expecting you! What we were not expecting however, was your entourage of blustery winds and chilly temperatures. These were the conditions our ladies were confronted with, for the finals of the Club Championship Triples on Saturday evening. Bowls bias was often non existent, as the gusty winds had our bowls travelling in either perfectly straight lines or being blown out of bounds. Whilst our spectators were snug as bugs, watching from be...hind glass walls, our ladies Suzanne Gault, Judy McAlister and Pat Reid, battled the conditions to compete against Sandy Paine, Sonia Ingall and Kathy Betcher. By all accounts, it was a nail biter to watch, as Kathy and co clawed their way back from a 21-10 deficit midway through the game, to a final score of 27-26 at the completion of the event. Congratulations to all! Kathy and Sandy then proceeded to back this up, by teaming up with Rosemary Walter the following day and taking out another win. This time, competing in the Summer League at Young. Once again they came from a deficit, with the score being 11-8 on the last end. Needing 3 shots to draw or 4 for a win, the ladies dug deep and delivered 4 awesome bowls, eventually winning the game. Once again, congratulations ladies. Our monthly meeting was held on Friday 8th November. A few topics of discussion were Pennant preparations, upcoming District and Regional events that we will be hosting, dates for Christmas/Presentation night and completion of Club Championships. Ladies, please note there are lists on the board that require your attention. One is for Pennant for 2020 and the other is for the Towning Shield. The Towning Shield is a District selected Regional event, whereby individuals are selected to play in teams of fours. This event is to be played in March at Condobolin. Our mixed social games will remain at 5pm each Saturday but as of 11th January we will be commencing our evenings with a short session of Drills and Skills followed by a game of bowls. If we are to be competitive in Pennant (or any other competition), it is imperative that we all try and attend as often as possible. Sandy P
02.01.2022 Last Thursday was our first Super Singles Mixed social night, with everyone enjoying the gorgeous weather conditions and the chance to win some hams and chocolates. Our lucky ham winners were Steve Galvin, Kerry Aston and Julie Hughes, with the chocolates going to Sharyn Bradtke and Lyn Galvin. Tomorrow night (12th) is our mixed Christmas party/presentation night. This will also be a super singles format and members are encouraged to bring non playing friends or family me...mbers along for a fun, relaxing evening and opportunities to win some more prizes. After bowls, we will be enjoying a sausage sizzle along with our presentations. Players are requested to have their names into the club by 6pm for a 6.30 start. Ladies, if you have not already done so, please show your availability for Pennants, by putting your name on the sheet provided on the notice board. Pennants begins on Saturday 8th February, with our first game being against Cootamundra Country Club. Also on the board, are nomination forms for the District Championships. If any members decide to enter any of these events, please remember to use your new state membership numbers. The Towning Shield has been drawn, with both Sue Gault and Rosemary Walter being selected. The Towning Shield is a District selected Regional event, whereby individuals are selected to play in teams of fours. This event is to be played in March at Condobolin. On the 13th December, the ladies bowling club will be the beneficiary of the Grenfell Bowling Club Trivia night. It is a great, fun night and not taken too seriously, but again offers our ladies club a chance to raise some funds for future endeavours. So, please grab as many friends as you can and head down for a great nights entertainment registration from 6pm - Trivia begins at 7pm $10pp. We also host a monthly meat raffle night on the first Friday of the month and any help is very much appreciated. There is a sheet on the board, asking members to volunteer to sell tickets on these nights. A roster will be made up from those available. As it will be a monthly roster system, you may only get called upon once or twice a year, so please consider putting your name down. Dates to remember: Christmas/presentation night Thursday 12th December Trivia night Friday 13th December - 7pm Monthly meeting Thursday 16th January
