18.01.2022 Illegally removing firewood can lead to the loss of iconic species, like the Barking Owl, who rely on hollow logs and dead trees to survive. More than 60 peo...ple have been caught illegally removing firewood in Victoria’s forests, parks and reserves since the Conservation Regulator and Parks Victoria launched Operation Hollows in May. Operation Hollows aims to protect the environment and firewood supplies for community members through what will be a difficult and challenging year. Anyone caught illegally removing firewood can face a fine of up to $8,261, and vehicles and equipment may also be seized. To report the suspected illegal collection or selling of firewood, contact DELWP on 136 186. Further firewood collection rules are available at www.ffm.vic.gov.au
