25.01.2022 STRESS, a little is good! But stress is everywhere... from a work dead lines, to busy peak hour traffic, to 3 screaming kids welcoming you home after a long day! Here is how it effects our body:... Brain fog - Our minds are constantly filled with unnecessary information not leaving much room for the important. Poor sleep - Cortisol our main stress hormone is high at night, stopping our melatonin to rise, which sends us off to sleep. Reduced Immunity - With our white cell dropping and our inflammation rising its harder to fight infections and heal wounds. Weight gain - Our body is in constent fight or flight mode, conserving energy to use in times of need. Our hunger hormone is high while our satiety hormone drops. GI issues - Our digestive enzymes stop secreting and our digestive processes shut up shop. Not in the mood - Drop in sex hormones greatly reduce our libido and holts our sex drive. Reduced work out - Lack of sleep and stress reduce our ability to work out by reducing the amount of blood and oxygen is send to the muscles. It also reduces muscles recovery rate. 25.01.2022 Use other tools to help when your emotions are triggers OR activated! . The next step is deciding and realising that over eating is not the most effect way in handling emotions. Therefor the next step is deciding that you would replace with this behaviour. . So.... outside of rewarding yourself with food, how else can you focus your positive emotions?... . The recognition that over consuming food has not contributed to that positive balance in the past is also an important insight. . - One of the most important things to focus on is life balance. We all have experienced moments and periods when things were running smoothly. The objective is to make decisions and modifications in order to reinforce and sustain that state of mind, being aware of non-eating options and applying them. . That might sound odd, but do just that: Pick "a thing" that youll always do before you engage in over consuming foods. . Examples: - Take three deep breaths - Free movement/Stretching - Drink a big glass of water - Mentally check for actual signs of physical hunger - Play with your pet for five minutes - Journal writing - Listen to an epic banger - Spend a few minutes on housework (oddly therapeutic... for some) . $20 says your reading this now and think, "yeah sure sound nice.... but in reality I wont actually do this"... So try this: 1. Make it as easy as possible on yourself. 2. At maximum, they should take you 15 minutes to complete. 3. Make it something you actually enjoy . More than 75% of my client say they struggle with emotional or stress eating. But what is actually going on, and how can we address it!... . Eating triggered by stress is usually governed by a cascade of stress hormones, cortisol in particular. Consuming foods, usually rich in carbohydrates and sugars, release pleasurable sensations, and trigger our happy hormones dopamine and serotonin. 12.01.2022 SKIN CHECKS! When was the last time you got your skin looked at? As a little girl, I grew up by the ocean and constantly in the sun, to be honest, not much has changed. Although I wouldnt have changed my upbringing for the world, it has made me very cautious about the health of my skin.... I delved into the stats on skin cancer to find that Australia has the highest incidence of skin cancer in the world. Skin cancers in Australia are now nearly seven times more common than all other cancers combined. A regular skin check is a way to mark early detection of any type of skin cancers. Although Im huge on making sure my patients have adequate vitamin D levels, I also discuss and educate on respectful sun exposure. Daily 20 minutes of sun exposure to 75% of your body, outside of 11am - 3pm is more then enough. If youre reading this thinking, "I should probably get my skin checked"... then please do!
