17.01.2022 Gretel Burgess is a performing artist, dance/drama teacher and social worker and is usually working on multiple projects at any one time. Gretel is currently cr...eating the third instalment of her three part ‘Stroke’ theatre and movement series. She performed, with her daughter, Chloe McDougall, the first two pieces, ‘A Stroke of Luck’ and ‘Liability’, at the Dance on the Edge performances at the Belconnen Arts Centre over the past two years. This new instalment, called ‘Coagulation’, will be the prequel to the first two pieces and will explore the connection between mental health conditions and the curdling of blood. ‘Coagulation’ will complete the ‘Stroke’ series, which will eventually be performed as a full show in the future in collaboration with Theatre Practitioner, Pip Buining. The whole piece is designed to portray the experience of a person suffering from, and surviving, a stroke, examining the causal factors that impact on the physical and mental self, including the broader implications that stroke has on family members.
