25.01.2022 WEEK 5: Please RETAKE our Survey by one of our founding members John de New on #COVID19 and its impact on YOUR financial situation, wellbeing, health and employment! Anyone anywhere can participate weekly (10 min): https://tinyurl.com/UniMelb-COVID19 Please RETAKE this survey if you have already answered it before. Please use the SAME email address that you used last time.... If you have NOT yet taken the survey, no worries, you can start now! The research becomes MORE precise EACH time a person responds AGAIN and again. Thank you to everyone who has already participated To all our supporters and allies, if you would please "Retweet with Comment" again, we would be most grateful. Also please take part again yourself! All of this data is collected for -academic- research. All email addresses are stripped before ANY analysis is made. You can opt out of leaving your email address. You can skip any question. As COVID19 impacts on us, many financial institutions are scrambling to support their clients weather this unprecedented storm. For -this- academic research reason, we are interested in which bank you use. However, you can skip ANY question you feel uncomfortable answering. Many of us are in lockdown, home-schooling, working at home, or still at the workplace. Things are so different to a few months ago. How are YOU coping? Is it stressful? What groups of people are affected more than others? We want to research -how- to support your wellbeing. Researchers: John de New, Ferdi Botha, Nicolas Salamanca , #econtwitter (pic: CDC)

24.01.2022 Great news for South Australian Greyhounds! https://www.westtorrens.sa.gov.au//E/Greyhounds_off_leash

21.01.2022 We are confused as to why Greyhound and Horse Racing, i.e. gambling, are considered essential in Victoria during a Stage 4 Lockdown ? Andrews said There are some significant animal welfare issues if you were to try to turn that industry off and take those animals out of training there are some very significant animal welfare challenges there. So it’s a compromise Fact is, the industry has always had significant welfare issues, which need to be adressed.

20.01.2022 A comedian at the Melbourne Comedy Festival describes greyhound owners in Melbourne. Some truth to that https://youtu.be/1eOhJevPW-o

18.01.2022 Such beautiful hounds! A great opportunity to foster one of these beautiful creatures

16.01.2022 Despite the not-so-good news for Victorian's today, Barry (and me) managed to find some joy in the day whilst out walking in the sunshine. Do you have any happy pics taken today? If so, post below and hopefully they will make someone who might be doing it really tough at the moment, smile

16.01.2022 Good friend of GES is Amber, Greyt Greys Rescues' Foster Carer Coordinator & Adoptions Co-Coordinator. Amber has been writing some great stuff about Greyhounds and we'd like to share some here. This piece is titled "A Greyhound's Emotional Cup" and is especially helpful for new GH owners or foster carer's to help them understand the unique dog they've just welcomed into their homes. Enjoy!

14.01.2022 Please have your say on the NSW Greyhound Racing Act 2017 and its impact on animal welfare! You can respond in this short survey by NSW Gov here: https://www.customerservice.nsw.gov.au//short-survey-for-t or use the long more detailed survey: https://www.customerservice.nsw.gov.au//detailed-survey-fo Thank you! All relevant document can be read here: https://www.nsw.gov.au/hav/greyhound-racing-act-2017-review... You don’t have to be in NSW to take the survey, but they do ask whether one lives in NSW or not. I am sure it is important that people in NSW respond.

12.01.2022 Murphy wanted to show us how to wear a face mask. Murphy was bored.

12.01.2022 The GES greys are: Saint Wigglebottom, Saint Barks-a-lot, Master Fluffybut, Doctor Barks-a-lot, The Amazing Wigglebottom and Mistress Cuddlebug.

10.01.2022 VIC Premier Dan Andrews just announced more off-leash dog parks in Victoria, Australia, with a pic where he is hugging a greyhound. Greyhounds by law are currently not allowed to be off-leash anywhere, including dog parks, so the pic is a little odd. Maybe it’s time the government allowed special greyhound sessions in these dog parks? Let Dan Andrews know!

09.01.2022 ATTENTION ALL WA RESIDENTS- please follow the link and contact your MP's to ensure that the Greyhound Muzzling legislation goes though with the equally important Dog Amendment (Stop Puppy Farming) Bill 2020. This is your chance to have your say and support this amendment. In very similar circumstances to what we faced in Victoria, WA GH Muzzling reform is being debated in parliament at the same time as Puppy Farming and may become lost in the debate. Don't let your MP forget ...YOUR Greyhound and your belief that ALL companion Greyhounds have the right to be treated like any other breed. #Educationnotlegislation #LeadsonMuzzlesOff #Supportfreethehounds See more

05.01.2022 And here is another one from Amber from Greyt Greys Rescue titled "Dog Parks & Greyhounds Don't Mix". This is quite controversial but something we do agree with because of the poor socialisation skills not all, but most Greyhounds have due to their upbringing. But having said that, Dog Parks can be problematic for ANY breed and everyone should enter one with caution.

05.01.2022 Middle aged, debonair gentleman seeks human for serious, long-term relationship of mutual, unconditional love, cuddles and sharing of treats. Other dogs need not apply #Barry If you live in Victoria and are looking for the perfect companion dog, look no further or share this post to help Bazz find a great new home.

04.01.2022 Have you recently wondered what has been going on with greyhound racing in the US? This new article in the National Geographic provides an interesting summary! https://www.google.com//greyhound-racing-decline-united-st

04.01.2022 Please sign and share this important petition to reject the draft NSW greyhound welfare code of practice because in its current form it will increase greyhound suffering! Thank you! https://www.change.org/p/the-hon-kevin-anderson-nsw-ministe

03.01.2022 Hi Victorian's! Here's a chance to have your say about how lost pets are reunited with their family. It's a great survey and also a chance for us Greyhound owners to voice how counterproductive it is to have to register our greys with GRV only! https://engage.vic.gov.au/reuniting-lost-pets-review

03.01.2022 This looks great and very worthwhile for all dog owners.

03.01.2022 BREAKING: A trainer known as 'Possum Man' is being investigated by RSPCA Victoria in an ongoing investigation into live baiting. Full article here: https://www....heraldsun.com.au//d7908c54cb89da4bb577e9713129 We exposed the cruel practice of live baiting in 2015, which was widespread in the greyhound racing industry at the time. This quote, in the image below, from the lead detective on the case in Queensland indicates just how prevalent live baiting was. There have been several cases of live baiting since it was exposed internationally in 2015. Despite this, the industry continues to receive widespread support by state governments. Last October the Queensland government announced its support for a $39 million new greyhound racing track at Ipswich. This industry does not deserve any more chances. Take action here https://www.alq.org.au/stop-ipswich-track

02.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has already participated in this research study We are now in week 4 and ask you to please participate again - it only takes 10min to complete the survey. Some questions might feel private, so you can skip any question you do not want to answer. Thank you all

01.01.2022 Warren is a very good boy, but I think the current laws around greyhounds are a little "ruff". Under Victorian law, greyhounds must be on a leash when in public... places, including off-leash areas. All animals should be able to do what comes naturally, and as the second fastest land animal, this increasingly popular breed naturally wants to run. That's why today I'm asking the government to identify sites (and funding) for more enclosed slipping tracks and to relax regulations so greyhound owners can responsibly give their beloved pets the exercise they need.
