24.01.2022 Trainer Adrien Chevalier has made his presence known the last five weeks, at Gawler Greyhound Racing Track, with Chief Sidekick taking out his last four consecutive runs. His latest victory took place on Sunday night in the fastest time of the runs, and personal best, of 22.72 over 400m, where he led the whole way. Having won 20 of his 60 starts to date, this 4 year old is certainly on a roll. With good early speed and momentum to the line he is definitely one to keep an eye on around the Gawler track!

Used for the purpose of training greyhounds, the slipping track was made possible thanks to $172,500 of funding provided by the Government racing stimulus package announced in June 2019. 08.01.2022 The box draw for the SA Match Race Series

08.01.2022 Four heats of the Group 3 Brian Johnstone were run and won yesterday. There looked to be plenty of depth but with a fairly solid head wind it was anyone's guess... who'd prove the strongest. Heat 1 saw the in form Our Boy Wolf line up the favourite in a tough field. The blue brindle fella jumped well again, from another squeeze draw in 6, and run out a handy winner in the fastest heat time of 29:99. The very smart Fly For Trix started a hot favourite in heat two with Oakvale Blue the only other run under double figures. Fly For Trix jumped ok but Oakvale Blue bombed the start and was well back. FFT eventually got the win in a wind affected 30:14, but Oakvale Blue rattled home in a sub 13 final split and moved on to the next round too. The third heat saw Coorong Nugget start favourite but he looked to be a bit out of sorts. He jumped ok, the dropped back, then got going again. It was the littermate of the second heat winner that proved too good. Fly For Fashion at 9 bucks was a semi surprise winner, with another Oakvale dog, this time Oakvale Style filling the quinella. The final heat saw two blue girls battle to be the public elect - Love And Thunder and Quinnish. It was the former that got the chocolates and in the process all Nathan Wilson's runner advanced to the semi finals. The semi's will be held next Thursday the 19th November with the final set down for the 26th November. It should be a belter of a series with some very smart dogs vying for a finals berth!

07.01.2022 Rounding out our 5 Greyhound of the Year nominees is Sir Truculent - bred, owned, and trained by Wal Harkins. 'The Truck' dominated the local staying ranks for much of 2020 with winning streaks of 6, 5 and 4 at different stages of the year recording 25 wins and 8 placings from 35 starts over the 731m journey alone! Feature wins for the year included the Stayer's Cup, Shane McQueen, State National Distance Final and the Premier's Cup on Adelaide Cup night. Trips to Victoria brought more success including in the Bold Trease series where he finished second in both the heat and the Group 1 final against some of the best stayers in the country. Another progeny of Worm Burner, Sir Truculent accumulated an impressive $145,350 in prize-money as well as a large fanbase along the way!

Although there were 11 races there were two trials before the first.... Shadow Mist went over the 395m in a smoking 22:02 and then Oakvale Beauty for Nathan Wilson went over the same distance in 22:09. Locally bred by Jane McNicholl and owned by Jeff Weber, Gavin Weber and Neville Loechel, the brindle dog defeated a hot field finishing the 595m trip in 33.88s ahead of Christo Bale in second. Weblec Ace isn't a stranger to winning on big nights at Sandown also claiming the Victorian Sprint Championship back in August this year.
