19.01.2022 We had the pleasure of attending Tease Industries presentation of Burlesque at the Rooftop movies on Friday night for an immersive movie experience. Firstly, the rooftop movies in Roe street is Perth at its finest - gorgeous views, comfy bean bags and pizza slices bigger than your head, it’s pretty damn great. Add in a guilty pleasure movie like Burlesque, and live burlesque dancers, and it takes off to a new level. The concept itself is great - pre-movie we were treated to... a couple of amazing acts - shout out to the Peaches and Cream duo, who were awesome, and MC’d by the stunning sugar duchess, whipping the audience into a great vibe. Once the movie started, the dancers live performed selected burlesque segments along side the movie, with Wild Kat and John Doe featured in their portrayal of Allie and Jake in the movie, including some acrobatic moves that had the audience whooping and cheering. My only comment would be for more! The rooftop movies is a big open air space, and while the dancers were giving it their all moving throughout the aisles, they were a little lost at times in the space. A more compact seating arrangement with dance space between bean bags, or more dancers, would assist with this. Still, it was a great night and I hope the rooftop movies does more of these immersive experiences, as it was lots of fun! Tease Industries did a great job presenting the movie, and they have a second show, Club Burlesque, opening this week. I’d say go and see it as it’s sure to be a winner, but a quick check of Fringe tells me it’s all sold out! Better luck next time :)

13.01.2022 Hey fam! Like a lot of our fringe friends, due to the current COVID restrictions in place, our show What Makes A Musical a Musical will not go ahead as planned next week. The reduction in venue capacities has made it unfeasible for us to continue But all is not lost! Subiaco Arts Centre has been incredible and with their assistance we will be rescheduling the season for early March. ... We’d love to thank you all for your support for our brand new musical, we had pretty much sold out our Fringe season, so we hope most of you will come and see us in March For those who have purchased tickets through Fringeworld, Fringe is working to organise refunds over the next week or so (you don’t have to do anything). Your best option is to take the refund and then repurchase your ticket for the new season. For those that bought through Perth Theatre Trust, you will have the option of a full refund or to transfer your tickets to the new season. We will release the show dates and new ticketing links next week, as we work out the details. Massive shout out to the awesome team at Fringe World that have been amazing through a very difficult time for Perth arts. Fringe is still going and there are still shows running with reduced capacity, so make sure you support your local artist for this last week - with the restricted capacities, every ticket sale counts. Love to you all!!!
10.01.2022 Grey Lantern Productions is a Perth Theatre Company that produces new, alternative and innovative performance art in Perth, Western Australia. Grey Lantern’s IsoRadio is an unpaid project that combines the creative forces of Perth in a recurring radio play style podcast. Breaking news! Due to a recent pandemic, the FWN News Desk is looking to hire 4 new radio presenters. (Our NDA says we can’t tell you what happened to the last ones.) ... Below are the audition pieces and instructions on how to audition, these can be sent to us via e-mail as mp3s. You are welcome to audition for multiple roles. For those who cannot commit long term we will be seeking people for small guest spots fairly regularly. Chip Everyman - Main male anchor. Desperate to be the centre of attention, but not unkind. Somewhat privileged, not the sharpest tool but normally well intentioned. Slightly pampered. A man’s man as long as the tape is rolling. Even when he's wrong, he's Right. Think Ron Burgundy crossed with Zapp Branigan crossed with someone from Fox News. https://www.dropbox.com//FWN%20-%20Chips%20audition%20piec Dame Murdea - Main female anchor. Smarter than Chip, but probably not as smart as she thinks she is. Nice, but willing to get nasty to survive. Pleasantly reasonable and reasonably intelligent, with only occasional bouts of media diva. Ideally a transatlantic accent. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8o/FWN%20-%20Dame%20Audition.pdf Sam Aveago - Sports reporter. Possibly a male role, so we can lean into some sexist tropes, but expressions of interest from either gender welcome. Very upbeat and high energy in the beginning, trending towards surprising depth and darkness. Male or female, preferably male. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, will soon discover hidden depths. https://www.dropbox.com//FWN%20-%20Sam%20audition%20piece. Dr Pat Ewedown - All round science correspondent. Preferably female, because fuck the patriarchy, but expressions from either gender welcome. Smart, pleasant, but a little meek. Works with idiots but is constantly surprised by that fact. Male or female, preferably female. Intelligent, patient to a fault, pleasant and slightly doormat-ish. https://www.dropbox.com//FWN%20-%20Pat%20audition%20piece. Cast are looking at a commitment of about two hours a week. Intention will be for the cast to pre-read the script for each episode, then we'll probably do a rehearsal session once a week as a sort of mini workshop, then do the proper record later in the week. For any more questions or to submit your auditions please email [email protected]
