24.01.2022 Modular shipping container explorations: Retrofitting a standard shipping container into a mobile library kickstarted a series of exploration on the opportunities for re-use of shipping containers. From rapid construction and distribution of mobile intensive care units to transportable sporting changerooms and other community facilities, the options are endless for a self-sustainable unit that can be prefabricated, deployed and re-deployed. This initiative is a result of GGA’s R&D. If you are interested in one of these, or to commission us to adapt into any mobile facility, please contact Esther at [email protected]

24.01.2022 Meet Arushi Bansal. They say all good things must come to an end. And so it is with summer intern Arushi’s time with us over the last few weeks as she heads back to uni. Her global perspective on architecture has been influenced by her upbringing in Mauritius and India (yes, she speaks French and Hindi along with English!) as well as the work of Zaha Hadid. Arushi has been honing her modelling skills on some of our civic and cultural projects. On study breaks you’ll find he...r hitting the gym or relaxing with a novel on the beach. We wish her all the best for the rest of her studies and hope to say ‘bonjour’ to her again soon.

23.01.2022 What is modular, can be towed and moved around, warm in winter and cool in summer and comes packed full of books? A mobile library of course! Retrofitting a standard shipping container, this mobile library can be transported with a cab chassis, or towed with a vehicle. The container is ideal for super graphics, artwork or advertising. Highly insulated with solar panels and battery back-up as well as an external service storage compartment for water tanks, the unit is self-s...ustainable. Glazed openings provides daylight and visual connection as well as customisable optional extras for larger site openings, pop out rooms and place making packs. Mobile Library Turnkey Solutions are a result of GGA’s R&D in collaboration with ONECONSTRUCT . If you are interested in one of these, please contact Esther at [email protected]

23.01.2022 Farewell 2020! We will be closed from noon today and will reopen on Wednesday 6 January.

19.01.2022 After a hiatus from in-person events in 2020, we were delighted that Parlour has returned! GGA's own Victoria Clarkson and JPE's Josephine Evans kicked off the Summer Salon presented by AWS and Brickworks. They talked career highlights, personal stories, their biggest challenges and the advantages of collaboration. Tori shared both her personal experiences of being an early career architecture professional and role as co-chair of AIA's EmAGN initiative, advocating for the vo...ices of graduates and emerging architects... and some inside info on what daily life is like at GGA! It was so great to reconnect with some familiar faces and meet some new ones. #grievegillettandersen #parlour #architecture

18.01.2022 Meet Hugh Adare. Hugh is one of our summer interns here at Grieve Gillett Andersen. A Barossa Valley native, he enjoys photography and cars, including collecting rare car rims. He has been honing his design skills on a variety of education and cultural projects, as well as getting an introduction to heritage advisory work. We’ve been wowed by his 3D visualisation skills and are learning a thing or two from him too! ... Everyone is so friendly and easy to get along with. There hasn’t been a second where I don’t feel like I belong in the office.

17.01.2022 We are looking for someone to join the GGA team! Follow the link below to learn more. https://www.seek.com.au/job/50617657?type=standard

14.01.2022 Meet Charlotte Clarke. Charlotte is spending some time with us as an intern this year. An elite swimmer with a degree in Psychology, Charlotte is also the Strategy Director at NATION Creative. She is applying her hands on skills in some of our civic and education projects. Charlotte admires the strong female leadership of the practice. And likewise we commend Charlotte for her dedication to her passion and profession. We wish her all the best as she sprints to the finish line!

13.01.2022 The Redden Centre Student Hub emerged as the first of many stages of the St Aloysius College Masterplan. What was once a noisy concrete anti-space has been transformed into a vibrant, inviting space for students to gather and connect, thanks to acoustic treatments and mobile furniture. It is now a flexible all-weather space for breakout, learning and assemblies, while retaining its connection to the outdoor play spaces beyond. Photography: Sam Noonan ... 12.01.2022 Over the last year, we have had the privilege to work with Country Arts SA to develop a masterplan for Chaffey Theatre, Renmark. We enjoyed working with GGA on this project because at every step of the way they understood our philosophy of working with community, of deep consultation and authentic conversations with a broad range of stakeholders, including First Nations, artists and arts lovers, and governments at all levels. In their language and their action, the team fro...m GGA demonstrated their complete understanding of the way we work with our valued stakeholders and the specific nature of working in the arts. 12.01.2022 Revit versus real life... It was brilliant to see the result of such great team work between Grieve Gillett Andersen, Kennett, CPR Engineers and Stevens Group out at the Salisbury High School Redevelopment site yesterday. Final coordination of shop drawings integrating new seel with existing trusses in a 1960s building was achieved by all team members using Revit over Zoom.... Sensational effort by everyone involved! #architecture #educationdesign #building #construction #revit #teamwork #southaustralia

10.01.2022 There has been much conversation recently about modular construction and different ways this could add value to clients and projects. Benefits include shorter time on site and ease of decanting. While modular can deliver efficiencies, it’s not a cookie cutter approach. It should be highly customised, contextual and speak to the brand and identity of the myriad end users and communities. The concept design for Goolwa Sporting Precinct was developed in response to a reference... design provided through a Design and Construct tender. It demonstrates our ability to work across industry and sector, with builders and manufacturers, to find the smarts and to continuously test the boundaries of what we can do and how we can do it better. The design meets relevant regional sporting standards with change rooms, amenities, kiosk and clubrooms, all seamlessly connected with a generous and expansive spectator seating area. #GrieveGillettAndersen #modular and bespoke #regional sporting precinct. Please reach out to [email protected] if you would like to find out more about our customised modular systems to suit your project. Design Team: Dimitty Andersen, Esther Chew, Tim Fenton, Caitlin Murphy

10.01.2022 Big news for the Adelaide Hills Council with the securing of funding for Fabrik Arts & Heritage. We worked with the council on concept designs to reimagine the heritage listed former Lobethal Woollen Mill into a vibrant arts and cultural hub for the hills region. We're excited that the project is now one step closer to reality!

09.01.2022 The Rainbow Serpent footpath hints at what lies beyond the heritage listed facade of the former Electric Lighting and Traction Co. Power Station. Ahead of its time, Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute features a controlled temperature gallery, multi-purpose workshop spaces, theatre, retail and cafe. It is established as a destination to celebrate our rich Indigenous culture, both historical and contemporary. #GrieveGillettAndersen #Tandanya #SouthAustralia #Adel...aide #throwback #museum #gallery Project team: Paul Gillett

03.01.2022 We received our awards from the 2020 South Australian Architecture Awards a little differently this year! Thank you to the SA Chapter Australian Institute of Architects who hosted a breakfast this morning where we collected the COLORBOND Award for Steel Architecture, the Dr John Mayfield Award for Educational Architecture and a Commendation for Interior Architecture for the Pembroke Middle School Development. Along with a Commendation for Residential Architecture - Houses (A...lterations and Additions) for our project Hawthorn Residence. A big thank you again to everyone involved in bringing these award winning projects to life! #architecture #design #interiorarchitecture #architectureawards #southaustralia #adlarchigram

03.01.2022 Converting a heritage listed transport depot into a facility suitable for archival quality storage and research required extensive technical expertise behind the scenes. A controlled environment (including temperature, humidity and dust) and custom storage is required to house the significant collection of plant specimens including the Macrophytic groups; plants, macroalgae and macrofungi! at the Plant Biodiversity Centre. #GrieveGillettAndersen #StateHerbarium #AdelaideB...otanicGardens #Heritage #Archivalstorage #BiodiversityCentre Project Team: Paul Gillett

02.01.2022 Meet Victoria Clarkson. A lover of singing and performance, Victoria has performed in the past two Adelaide Fringe Festival seasons with the Gospo Collective. Along with music, she is also a lover of the outdoors and has sky dived from 14,000 feet! Professionally, her career highlight to date has been the opportunity to work on the design and construction of the recently awarded Pembroke Middle School Redevelopment project. Victoria puts a high value on time spent with famil...y and friends particularly when it involves cooking and eating (convenient given her brother is a professional chef!). For her, the kitchen table is a place that brings family and friends together by sharing tradition and love through food alongside an impressive collection of gins from around the world! Victoria has a passion for education. She is actively engaged in the architecture industry as the co-chair of the South Australian EmAGN Committee and feels very strongly about giving back to the profession, especially through encouraging and facilitating emerging voices. We are proud to have Victoria as an integral member of the GGA family and look forward to supporting her career development.
