25.01.2022 Congratulations Tegan! FLPA and the The College of Law Australia have announced our final year Griffith University law student Tegan Doherty is the inaugural winner of the scholarship for young family lawyers and law graduates for 2020, the FLPA and College of Law Practical Legal Training Student Scholarship. Winning this scholarship means so much to Tegan, 'It has provided a great amount of financial support while also solidifying my passion to begin my career in family law....' 'I've been incredibly fortunate to complete my degree here at Griffith. The various opportunities presented by both Griffith Honours College and the Law School generally, allowed me to build the skills and experience needed to receive such a scholarship.' Senior lecturer Zoe Rathus was thrilled when Tegan rang to say that she had won the FLPA / College of Law PLT Student Scholarship. 'I was Tegan's family law teacher and have also been her mentor through the Honours College for a number of years. Tegan is a very bright student with excellent grades - but she is also a thoughtful, engaged young woman who wants to use her law studies to work with vulnerable people. She worked and volunteered at the Women's Legal Service during her degree and worked with me and my research colleagues on our submission to the Inquiry into the family law system initiated by Pauline Hanson.' The scholarship covers the costs of practical legal training as well as a cash prize. Tegan will also receive mentoring and a work experience placement over the course of College of Law PLT with a FLPA experienced member to help her attain the work experience component of her practical legal training. 04.01.2022 "Volunteering at the Innocence Project was one of the highlights of my time at Griffith. It was amazing working alongside professional lawyers on real cases I learnt so much. Griffith Law School student Samantha Elliott took part in the Innocence Project last trimester, and said it was a life-changing experience. Griffith University’s Innocence Project has a new team of legal eagles ready to continue fighting miscarriages of justice. Dr Blewer has assembled a new team of i...nstructing lawyers, including prominent Gold Coast legal professionals Ron Behlau, Erin Mitchell, Danielle Hanson, Jonathan Nyst and Alex Somers. Jason Murakami remains on board as the project’s foundation instructing lawyer. Each of the professional mentors is a Griffith University law graduate, and also part of the Innocence Project during their studies. There’s real enthusiasm among the new lawyers, particularly given their shared history with the Innocence Project as students, Dr Blewer said. https://news.griffith.edu.au//new-look-legal-team-to-figh/
