25.01.2022 YOU EITHER DO IT OR YOU DON’T THERE IS NO ‘TRY’ . Do you ever say ‘I will try’? Have you ever said ‘At least I tried’? Whenever you commit to something and you say I will ‘try’ you have already giving yourself permission to fail. ... . When it comes to creating healthy habits and making positive changes to your health, stop saying ‘I will try’ this automatically sends negative vibes to your brain. By saying I will try has given yourself permission to pull out at any given time and not have any sense of feel about it. . If you’re wanting to achieve anything in life you can’t settle for ‘at least I tried’. Chuck away I will try’ and replace it with ‘ I WILL’ - Start ‘DOING’ instead of ‘TRYING’ And once you start to ‘do’ don’t settle for anything less! #gritnutrition See more

21.01.2022 I am sure you have heard this term used before but what does it mean? Exactly how it sounds - you CAN NOT out train a bad diet. Simple. If you are training hard, getting 10K steps in a day and still eating whatever you want then you could be sacrificing your results. But how?... It is so easy to eat 1000+ calories in just one meal without even realising - you have finished training, it is late and you haven’t got anything prepared for dinner. You think ah well, I have trained hard today I’ll order myself a pizza, pizza usually comes garlic bread and why not get a bottle of coke as well. What have you got here? You have got a series of over indulging in high calories dense foods. Now I’m not saying don’t eat calorie dense foods but you need to be mindful of HOW much you are EATING to how much you are BURNING. Studies have shown that people usually underestimate the amount of calories they are eating and overestimate the amount of calories they are burning.. Nutrition doesn’t have to be difficult - it can be kept real simple and easy. Tracking is a great way to avoid overindulges and to be able to track the calories you consume. Overall, Foods are not good or bad. There are foods we should eat more frequently, and foods we should eat less frequently. Base your diet off these fundamentals: Adequate protein over the course of the day (approx. 2.2g per kg bodyweight) Focus on nutrient dense foods Adjust carbs and fats depending on goals and personal preference, making up enough calories to support activity The rest of the details is about you as an individual, finding a nutrition strategy that you enjoy and can stick to for long-term maintenance #gritnutrition See more

18.01.2022 JUST KEEP MOVING FORWARD. At times we feel like something is trying to drag us back - we may completely blow our calories, skip a couple of workouts or hit a plateau and feel like we are going no where. Majority of people quit, they give up and walk away. But if you have a bad day at work do you just quit and walk away? NO, so why do you do it when it comes to your health? Whenever you feel you’ve hit a slump and not going anywhere the be...st thing to do is just jump straight back on the health band wagon and keep moving forward. One bad meal/day/week isn’t going to make you fat just like one good meal/day/week is going to make you healthy. Not every week you make progress on the scales, measurements or any physical changes BUT every week you are trying to work on your health, you are creating healthier habits, you are mentally getting better and you’re one step closer to your goals than if you were to give up. Don’t allow small step backs to stop you from pushing forward. If you’re struggling, hit a plateau or feel like giving up - reach out, get support from a health profession and allow them to guide you through this journey. No one has to do it alone See more

14.01.2022 NOT EATING ENOUGH! So often I hear stories of guys not eating ENOUGH food. Society publishes that you need to eat less to lose weight but that can be so wrong. We need to eat MORE of the RIGHT food and MOVE MORE. Simple! But why? If you suddenly decrease the amount of calories that you eat, your body won’t try to do more with less. It won’t necessarily provoke catabolism and thus reduce weight and fat cells. Instead, your body will try to... keep you alive by slowing down its metabolism. It will simply believe that something is wrong, maybe you’re trapped somewhere without food, and it will just begin to become very stingy with energy. So what’s the end result? If your body needs 2000 calories a day to survive, and you suddenly give it only 1000, it won’t begin to burn off 1000 calories worth of cells that you have lying around. Instead, your body will slow down its metabolism. It will really try and get as much energy out of those 1000 calories as it can, because it doesn’t want to waste anything. You’ll feel more tired because your body is being very miserly with energy, and will devote its 1000 calorie ration to essential systems, like blood and oxygen supply. The last thing your body is thinking of is burning fat. DO THIS: Have enough protein. Protein has the highest thermic effect of the macronutrients and is satiating. It will also help conserve lean mass and thereby preserve your BMR. Avoid large calorie deficit for weight loss. Allow yourself to enjoy a treat every now and then. If you create restriction you are opening a space for binge eating to occur Focus on nutrient dense foods Adjust carbs and fats depending on goals and personal preference to support your activity. I hope this has helped clear a few things up, but if not, reach out to me and let’s chat more! #gritnutrition See more

12.01.2022 There is no one way to define 'health', every individual defines 'health' differently and there is no wrong or right answer as everyone will have their own opinion but having a narrow mind about WHAT health means to you is where it can get you in trouble. Our general population defines 'health' as the way they physically look (lean, skinny, muscular) and the ability to be able to do something and forget about their: Ene...rgy & Vitality Health - Generally feeling good, being well, enthusiastic and not feeling tired or fatigue. 07.01.2022 JUST EAT REAL FOOD. When I talk about eating for 'nutrition' and 'good health', I mean good, real, whole food. I’m talking about single-ingredient foods that have grown in the earth and haven’t been manufactured or processed in a factory. This means choosing foods that are as close as possible to their natural state.... Avoid fast food and processed items as much as possible. That’s because most of these products are devoid of real nutrition. They are packed with sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and other man-made chemicals. Who actually feels good eating this stuff anyway? Not me. I don’t feel they offer me any health benefits. Knowing which foods to eat and which foods to limit should be something everyone knows about, right? But shockingly, this isn’t the case, and so many people know very little about the nutrition of the food they are eating. Making the correct food choices is a must if you want to support your goals. Need help to make the RIGHT food choices? #gritnutrition See more

07.01.2022 How am I always motivated? I'm not. Some days I lie in bed and don't feel like getting up and going to the gym. Some days I get to the gym and I wonder why I'm there. 06.01.2022 Binge eating is often caused by anxiety disorders, depression/mood disorders PTSD, emotional/sexual/physical abuse, neglect, restrictive eating patterns, and/or history of body shaming and weight bullying. It is usually becomes a habit or a way you deal with emotion. It can also occur if you aren’t eating ENOUGH food. A binge restrict cycle is when a large peak of uncontrolled eating are separated and fuelled by periods of extreme deprivation, res...triction, and restraint. In response to a binge, you may get the feeling of guilt, shame and like you’re self sabotaging your own health and happiness for no reason. You may think the best thing to do is to restrict yourself again to redeem control. However, restricting is only fuelling the fire. A V O I D! Fasting Skipping meals Excessive restraint Banking Calories’ in preparation for a binge. D O! Get straight back to your normal eating routine Eat regular meals and snacks every few hours Include regular indulgences as opposed to completely eliminating ‘forbidden foods. Eat anti inflammatory real food, not diet food. Eating plenty of healthy fats and protein keeps you satiated/satisfied/complete and is true FOOD for your organs. 04.01.2022 Are you genuinely trying to change your body to be healthy? Or are you trying to be someone who society has shaped you to be? So often we get caught up in what other people think of us that we forget about our own health. The 'diet' Culture has brainwashed our sponge brain since we were kids that to be 'successful' or 'loved' you must be 'x,y,z'. This only does damage to our physical and mental health.... Stop trying to be someone society has shaped you to be and just be YOU! #gritnutrition See more

03.01.2022 Food diaries and tracking your calories. Are you tracking for the right reasons? Do you have purpose behind logging your food?... Tracking your food is a behaviour that truly takes seconds to minutes a day to do, but each and every time you pull out your app or diary, you remind yourself of your healthy living desires and strategies. It’s through regular and conscious effects and reminders that new habits are formed, and any behaviour that helps you to keep your goals and intentions at the forefront of your busy mind is a good one. The point of this habit is awareness, not change. What I don’t like about food logging is when it becomes punitive, restricting or judgmental. Food diaries aren’t there to tell you what you are or aren’t allowed. A food diary is simply a source of information to help inform your decisions, as well as an incredibly powerful habit-building tool. It is NOT about calorie counting or getting fixated on numbers, it’s simply about educating and understanding different values of food while fuelling your body with the RIGHT nutrition to help you perform. Use it to help you create more awareness of your current dietary habits. Become more in tune with your body and eat more wholesome foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals to help your body recover and perform at its very best. Why do you track? Would love to hear your purpose to tracking - Comment below #gritnutrition See more

03.01.2022 How is your relationship with food? Yes this can be an uncomfortable question to sit with. No matter what relationship we are referring to, healthy relationship requires trust, respect, enjoyment and even satisfaction. Do you fast just so you can eat out?... Do you analyse everything you eat? Do you get anxious around food? Do you restrict then binge? Do you hoard calories? These are all signs of an ‘unhealthy’ relationship around food.Lately I have seen a few people boost about how they ‘fast just so they can eat out’ and give tips on how to do so. It makes me very sad that our industry is like this, this kind of bullsh*t information is what drives people towards disordered eating and eating disorders. It portrays the WRONG message and it is a form of restrictive eating. Something so little can be a trigger for those who are currently struggling with an unhealthy relationship with food. It’s time to cut through the noise of all the bullsh*t! I want you to start focusing on your health as a whole. If you want to become the healthiest and happiest version of yourself then you need to: Stop listening to the WRONG information. Start feeding your brain with the RIGHT information.Unfollow those who may be a 'trigger' for you. Focus on your health as a whole. It’s time to build a healthy relationship with YOURSELF. Start to put actions in place today. If you need help to find balance and build a healthy relationship with food then reach out; Grit would LOVE to help you See more

03.01.2022 It’s not just about nutrition. One of my beautiful clients wrote this about this photo I’m not going to lie when I first saw this photo my initial reaction was ‘wow big girl is looking thiccckkk ’ but for the last month I have been working with Brodie Preston from Grit Nutrition to change my perception of food we haven’t even really had the chance to focus on macros but more around my overall attitude to nutrition, reducing that all or nothin...g approach, the guilt associated with not hitting my macros or going over them! Brodie is helping me change my mindset which is really required for long term results! So when I look again at this photo I see a happy, fit, healthy girl loving life with all the right people in her circle to make it one amazing ride Nutrition is a very small part when it comes to coaching, I guide my clients towards making peace with food and help them Ditch the all or nothing approach - it rarely lead to long term success. I help them focus on their overall general health, digestion, performance, energy levels, sleep, mindset and happiness. Need some guidance? Grit Nutrition is here to help #gritnutrition See more

03.01.2022 CLIENT SPOTLIGHT This women is always the hardest worker in the room, no matter the workout, no matter the battle she will keep on pushing through. She is such an inspiration to so many and her vibrant energy just lights up a room. She sent me this photo yesterday and said ... "How's this for a photo babe. I'm not the leanest I have been but definitely the fittest, strongest and happiest I have been. Also with your help and nutrition my training is being fuelled so well I hit a 95kg split jerk Friday " FRIENDLY REMINDER Being lean does NOT make someone healthy just like Dieting Or training for hours does NOT make someone healthy. Stop judging yourself by a ‘look’, stop chasing ‘lean’ and start chasing health, fitness, strength and happiness. Once you focus on these four elements your bodies will follow. Being lean is NOT the bees knees. Focus on being fit strong and healthy - it is way more enjoyable and a lot more rewarding at the end. #gritnutrition See more

02.01.2022 LET'S TALK ABOUT FOOD FREEDOM! This word gets thrown around a lot, especially in the health and fitness industry. But what does it mean? Food Freedom is about letting go of the negatives towards food, it is about enjoying your life and feeling happy within your own self. You allow your body to enjoy the small things and don't get the feeling of guilt that usually associated with particular foods or habits. ... BUT there comes a time when people need to rein it in. "Food Freedom" is the new trend & yes while I believe we need food freedom I still believe there is a line between 'healthy ambitions' and pushing the limits too far. Eating a donut, burger or going out for a night with your friend isn't going to ruin your process; doesn't mean its okay to do it every day and that it is going to make you feel good. We live in a society that creates a bad stigma around body image. So many are uneducated and have a bad relationship with food because they don't know the meaning of what 'health' is. If you are telling them that its okay to eat a donut a day then are you really trying to help them achieve maximum their health? I am a big believer that there isn't good nor bad foods, just foods you should eat more of and foods you should eat less of. I teach my clients to understand their body, understand what good health looks/feeld likes and also help them understand different values of food. I believe that EDUCATING and UNDERSTANDING your mind, body & soul is so important. Without this you are just going to keep going around in circles. First find freedom with YOURSELF then find freedom with food and work towards becoming the healthiest version of yourself. #gritnutrition See more

02.01.2022 I cringe when I hear people say 'I train just so I can eat this'. This mindset instantly sends negative messages to the brain and is a form of restriction & punishment. You should eat to fuel your body in a way that supports your goals is the positive mindset needed when making changes. Your body wants you to fuel it, not just feed it. What we put into our bodies matter. Food affects the way we feel, it affects our energy levels, it aff...ects our bodies ability to perform task, it affects our ability to heal and recover properly. If you are just constantly feeding it with food that "Fits your Macros" then are you really doing the best thing to take care of your overall health both from a mental and physical stand point? STOP training to burn calories. STOP training to support your eating. STOP punishing yourself in the gym. The mindset behind nutrition and exercise is everything. Start to FUEL your body to perform Nourish your body with the RIGHT nutrients. Eat for the RIGHT reasons. Train with INTENTION Always remember your WHY. EAT WELL. TRAIN WELL. STAY WELL.
