22.01.2022 I posted about this wonderful looking picture book a while back and now the author, Cynthia Mackey, is offering the opportunity to win a copy! We know that the first five years sets the scene for so much of future life and good books can have a great impact on young minds and developing literacy. 15.01.2022 With three young adult offspring,two of them girls I have followed the growth of 'social' and applaud McKillop College for actively working with their girls on the impact of social media and digital technology. And for bringing the young women of the Enidnetwork in to really get the girls involved. Now who is taking up the challenge for the boys - who equally need to learn to use social media and digital technology not only for their own benefit but also in ways hat are supportive of their friends and girlfriends. 07.01.2022 To all my teaching friends and colleagues - please go have a look at the survey in this article. I have long maintained that every teacher is a careers teacher - surely we are educating our young people, from day one, to make the most of their journey through life? We help give them the skills and knowledge to participate in society, make their own decisions, take responsibility, question what they see happening around them, be problem identifiers and problem solvers, to be c...ritical thinkers and much more that makes them assets in the workforce or in their own business. We also expose them to different facets of the world of work from playing dress ups in kinder through to participating in excursions that introduce jobs of all varieties, or researching the contribution of different individuals to our subject area and to our world. Yes I believe that we need specialist careers teachers but they need to be supported by, and support, every other teacher in the school, the teachers in their feeder schools and the ancillary staff, who all have a part to play working with parents to prepare children for life as positive, functioning, contributing adults!
