08.01.2022 Some important information about the COVID vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca is no longer recommended for people under 50. Pfizer is currently the ...only recommended vaccine for people under 50 in Australia. If you are under 50 and have an appointment to get your first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, it will be put on hold or rescheduled. You will get the Pfizer vaccine instead. If you are under 50 and have had your first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine, it is safe to have your second dose if you didn’t have a reaction to the first dose. Both doses must be the same vaccine, so you can’t swap to Pfizer. Public Health will call you before your second appointment. They will give you more information and make sure you feel comfortable. People over 50 will still be offered the AstraZeneca vaccine because current advice is that it remains safe for people above the 50 year age group. For more information, call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738. If you need an interpreter, you can call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 131 450 and tell them your language. Tell the interpreter your name and that you’re calling the Tasmanian Department of Health on 1800 671 738.
