25.01.2022 MOMENTUM + PLANNING + SELF VALUE Yesterday I was discussing with a mum, the importance of making some time for meal planning and prep to help her with the ravenous hunger she has. ... We both agreed that these tips will help challenge past habits and help create healthy habits and organisation to benefit her young family’s health and appreciation of good food as they grow and become busier. Here are a few suggestions I shared with her.... Reflect and write down what you would like to improve this week Check out what ingredients you currently have in your fridge or pantry Make a list of a few simple meals (look at recipe’s if you need to) Make a shopping list Aim to set aside some time for some meal prep. Try for a balance of cooked and fresh raw foods. Flexibility with time and ingredients is important here, especially when you have a young child. If you oven bake anything, think of something else you can put in at the same time Don’t forget about a nutrient dense smoothie as a snack. It’s so easy to add superfoods, healthy fats, protein or delicious sweet fruits to smoothies. Edpecially delish in summer! Remember having something prepared = less chance of becoming hangry, less stress at meal times, helps us make better choices and helps us value our meals and the effort we put in for ourselves. If you need a little encouragement, give it a go! Put on some music and enjoy!

Taking time for recovery, healing and getting well from debilitating illness is up to YOU! I’m guiding and encouraging but ultimately it’s you doing the work. ... Thank you Thank You I don’t know what Moss & I would do without you, you always steer us in the right direction to good health Love AJ

15.01.2022 THE GUT-BRAIN CONNECTION The gut is often referred to as the ‘second brain’ and is lined with 100 million nerve cells. Ninety per cent of the body’s chemical messengers responsible for modulating mood are produced in the belly. Your gut is not only responsible for digesting the food you eat, but also the emotions and experiences you process every day. No doubt you’ve heard common expressions such as, a gut feeling or gut instinct; making a gut-wrenching decision; or... having butterflies in your stomach when you’re nervous? These are more than just a figure of speech. The gut and brain are constantly in communication with one another connected via the two-way superhighway of the vagus nerve, also known as the gut-brain axis. Along this pathway, messages are relayed from the depths of your digestive tract up to the highest regions of your brain. The vagus nerve is part of your body’s parasympathetic nervous system, associated with ‘rest and digest’ as opposed to the sympathetic nervous system responsible for the body’s ‘fight or flight’ response. Did you know that gargling, singing, left nostril breathing and and slow, deep belly breathing can all improve the function of your vagus nerve?! If you’re experiencing digestive disorders, it’s not unusual to experience disruption to your mood and mental cognition too. Stress and mental health can affect your gut, and vice versa the health of your gut can affect your state of mind. - The Good Gut Guide.

13.01.2022 The full moon can bring disturbed sleep for some who are sensitive to the earths energies. However we all have a hormone called melatonin which plays an essential role in our sleep cycles. Here are a few important facts about melatonin.... Melatonin is produced in the pineal gland in the brain... Melatonin production naturally increases at the end of the day, as it gets dark Regular daily routines can strengthen the rhythm of melatonin production Melatonin production in our brain declines as we age Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant Low production of melatonin, large evening meals add to that tired, unrefreshed feeling when we wake in the morning. To help maintain good levels of melatonin..... Eat regular meals . This helps to keep your body in sync with the rhythms of the day. A light meal at night. As melatonin increases after dark our digestive processes slow down too. Avoid stimulants after lunch. Caffeine, soft drinks, energy drinks and some medications interfere with melatonin production and sleep. Avoid exercising at night. Rigorous activity delays melatonin secretion. Morning exercise, outdoors in the morning light is best to not interfere with melatonin production. Use dim lighting in your home at night and a dark bedroom to support your natural rhythms of melatonin production. Unplug from electronics and screens a few hours after dark to help support the body’s natural melatonin production, especially if you are sensitive. If you have sleep issues such as insomnia, disturbed sleep or waking tired there are also many herbal medicines and nutrient formulas which support natural production of melatonin. Get in touch if you feel you would like naturopathic support.
