PRODUCTIVITY, capturing solar energy as electricity and hot water. Even a small garden can grow all your vegies and chickens help with both gardening and fruit growing. Understand how the ethics and principles of PERMACULTURE DESIGN enable the design of homes, towns and societies for a sustainable and fulfilling future. The Food Forest is a home and small farm at Gawler SA, which demonstrates the cultivation of organic foods, integrates animals into its land-care system and essentially runs on composted green-waste, rainwater and sunshine. The public is welcome to the Open Day on Sunday 4 Oct. It has two identical sessions so we can observe COVID distancing provisions; the first from 10am - 1pm and the second from 2-5pm. You'll meet the chooks and mini sheep, see the compost making area, vineyards, a tiny strawbale cottage, use of greywater for irrigation and recharging of aquifers. There is no charge for children under 14, adults $15. Fresh produce, wine and educational DVDs (including a professionally made hour-long movie about permaculture and the creation of the Food Forest) will be for sale as well as fruit trees and grapevines including the best adapted fig trees from the CSIRO's international collection, pomegranates and native fruit trees.
