21.01.2022 Winton Round Wrap-Up The final Round of the inaugural Australian Motor Racing Series has been run and won. This meeting saw the return of Glenn Postlewhaite (Pozzies Mechanical Repairs VY Commodore Group 4), and Peter Dane (AU Falcon Super 6) added to the field to make up 2 Group 4’s and 5 of the Super 6 Touring Cars.... Qualifying Result: Gavin Ross (GMG Automotive Services VY Commodore Group 4) on Pole with a 1.34.7711, from Glenn Postlewhaite 2nd, and Brent Edwards (Cable Source BF Falcon XR6) leading the Super 6’s with a 1.36.529, Brendan O’Connor (BOC Tyres AU Falcon) was the next Super 6, follow by Michael Rice (Drouin Plastering Contractors VT Commodore). In a combined Race 1 with the V8 Ute Class and split grid with IROC Porches, the Commodore of Postlewhaite claimed the Group 4 win after Ross retired with steering issues, with the Edwards Falcon 3 seconds behind the first of the Super 6 cars. Rice came home 2nd in Super 6, with O’Connor 3rd. The Safety Car was triggered in Race 2 after the start when 2 cars including the Dane Falcon, which threw it’s 2nd drivebelt for the day, parked in the infield at Turn 1. Ross, who already had made is way up behind Edwards in 2nd from rear of grid in the first lap, managed to power past him at the Restart and battled Postlethwaite, until getting past on lap 5 for Group 4 honours. Edwards closed on Postlethwaite during the Ross battle before sliding off at the sweeper on the 2nd last lap, but had enough gap to re-join track for the Class win in Super 6 holding off O’Connor who was followed by Rice for 3rd. Sunday’s Race 3 saw Ross setting a Group 4 Lap Record of 1.33.8181 whist runnig away from the battle of Postlethwaite, who experienced clutch issues & Edwards who also lowered the Super 6 lap record to 1.35.7699 to prove how fast the track was. O’Connor was 2nd in Super 6 from Rice in 3rd. Race 4 and the final race of the season saw the Safety Car deployed on the first lap with a 3 car incident including and ending the races of Rice, O’Connor and heading into turn one. After 4 laps behind the was re-started with Ross taking his 3rd win of the weekend, Postlethwaite 2nd and taking the Group 4 Round win. Following was the 1st Super 6 of Edwards, who took the honours in that class, then the AU of Peter Dane in 2nd, and Damian Sullivan (Moneypit Racing Commodore) 3rd Super 6. Result for the Weekend Group 4 1st Glenn Postlewhaite, 2nd Gavin Ross Super 6 1st Brent Edwards, 2nd Brendan O’Connor, 3rd Michael Rice Thank you to everyone who completed, drivers, crews, sponsors and volunteers for our first season running with the AMRS.
