25.01.2022 Hey team I hope you have all survived week one of lock-down OK and are staying active. The week’s challenge was all about how many times you could get out there and clock up more than 5km on foot, and the lovely Emma Sommerville has risen to the top to steal the lead from John Baxter (who I was sure had it in the bag). This week we are going to do a distance challenge. It doesn’t matter how many runs you do, it’s about how many kms you can accumulate on foot over the course of the week. Have fun, and give it heaps!

25.01.2022 Hey team! I hope you are all doing well out there in iso-ville. We are half way through our weekly challenge which is to get the most amount of runs in before Sunday. A reminder that a "run" must be at least 5km so a walk to the kitchen and back just ain't cutting it James Bomford ;p As of today John Baxter has the lead with Nick Di Pietrantonio hot on his heels. If you haven't joined our Strava run group yet and would like to, please jump on board: https://www.strava.com/clubs/grouptrainingmelbourne

23.01.2022 Greetings people I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected under these trying conditions. Some good news (at last) in that from September 28 we are back on again for 2:1 sessions at Surrey Park! For me, this date can’t come soon enough; I am so over Groundhog Day as I am sure you all are. I’ve already spoken to a few of you who I know are super keen to start back with your buddies, so expect to hear from in the coming days if you were working with a 2:1 partner. If ...you have not tried 2:1 sessions as yet, I highly recommend that you consider giving them a crack so that you can make a start on body work sooner, rather than waiting for group sessions to start back late October (date TBC).. If you are interested in giving it a go, please PM me and I will arrange a buddy for you if you do not have one at hand. I promise I’ll be gentle to start with. ;p First in best dressed for preferred times / days. There’s still plenty of time to get fight-fit for summer people. Let’s do this!

23.01.2022 Hey team. I see that Wild Earth has a huge sale with some fantastic discounts on shoes and other training gear. The sale ends tonight so if there's anything that you need I suggest you get right onto it. :o) https://www.wildearth.com.au/view/sale

22.01.2022 IT’S A BUDDY NICE DAY FOR RUN! It’s sooooo good to be back at the park this week training real live people (not on a screen); not exactly group training as we can only do 2:1 sessions, but amazing all the same. Speaking of training with a buddy, I went out for a run with Greg from Wild Stride Fitness Heidelberg today (my usual Postcode Runners training partner), and we took this pic. ... The weather is amazing and this is the perfect time to get out there and start moving again. Need motivation? Grab a buddy! While you are out on your run or ride, take a shot with you and your buddy and post them here! Come on you know you want to. ;p

22.01.2022 It’s looking like another cracking day today so be sure to get out there and amongst it. There have been a few maxed-out classes this week so be sure to book in your preferred times as soon as you are able to in order to avoid disappointment. That being said, we are hoping that eased restrictions will allow for more than ten people from November 23rd for outdoor training sessions. I am also led to believe that from November 23rd we’ll be back on for Boxkick sessions which I for one am super pumped about! Please also note that from next week the 7am Strength class will revert back to 6am. The 6am sessions have been more popular than I anticipated so hopefully this will help balance things out a bit better between the Tuesday and Thursday classes.

22.01.2022 Simon’s post run recovery drink. Enjoy.

19.01.2022 Good evening athletes! I hope that you had a great weekend, whatever it entailed. So how did we go with our time trials during the week? I didn’t see any posted on the last Facebook link but if you did manage to get one done, please let me know. This coming week is all about speed using the average pace filter and here’s how it’s going to work. You can do as many runs as you like to accumulate your fastest average pace, but by using data from past efforts, you will be gover...ned by the following minimum distances for them to count: 10km Simon Dower, Pete Wallbridge 7km Stephen Lynch, Nathan Ford, Paul Asselman 6km Nick Di Pietrantonio, Em Somerville, Jody Douglas 5km John Baxter, Jules Katherine, Gaynor Ireland, Julie Constable, George Alexander, 4km Sharon Meere, James Bomford, Kaye Jones, Laura Tomasi, Anthea Bilke If you have not signed up to the GTM Strava run group but would like to get involved with our weekly challenges you can jump on board here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/grouptrainingmelbourne A sedentary lifestyle is where physical and mental problems take hold. Stay active during these restrictions my friends, in any way you can.

18.01.2022 Hey guys Mara here - Simon's partner. I have hijacked his FB page to let you know it's his 50th on Sept 11. I have organised a GoFundMe account if anyone feels to contribute to a bicycle he's after. Contra or gifts sent home is also welcome. Message me Mara Dower and I can send you address details. No expectations - birthday love flooding in on the day will be amazing. With much appreciation.... Mara (& Simon) xx https://gf.me/u/ytx3hw

18.01.2022 Great news today; we are back in action with no restrictions! That being said, can you all please continue to book your classes in via the app so that us trainers know who is attending what sessions. If you cannot make a session please be sure to cancel or let me know if you have missed the cut-off window. Boxing is back! I am super pumped that boxing classes are back with the first one happening at 6am this Wednesday. With Covid-safe protocols, you will need to have your own... gloves for the foreseeable future so now’s your chance to go and hunt them down. If you need gloves please PM me and I will bring some along to the session for you to purchase. Boxing classes have been dropped back into the timetable at the following times: Wednesday @ 6am Thursday @ 6.30pm Friday @ 9:30am See you at Surrey Park!

17.01.2022 Good morning team! I hope you are all doing well today. What an amazing battle to the finish last week was! Once again, I was sure that Em Somerville was going to finish on top and then Nick Di Pietrantonio came racing through at the end with a massive 43.5km for the week! A huge effort team, well done. This week, we will continue with the usual training runs but I’d like you to complete a time trial at some stage before the end of the week. The distance can be whatever you like (somewhere between 2km to 10km) but know that you’ll be doing it again in a few weeks (same location) and you have to try and beat it. Please post your results here and edit your run on Strava as Time Trial so that it is easy to identify.

17.01.2022 In the kitchen with Simon. Episode 2. Breakfast.

16.01.2022 Good morning runners! I hope you re all doing great. What a cracking day for a run! If you are participating in this weeks' challenge, a reminder to check your handicap (required distance) to capture your average pace (see the last post for your distance) Example: yesterday I did speed work which was only a few km - doesn't count... today I did 11km which is over my required 10km - does count You have three days to go. Get out there and give it heaps people!

15.01.2022 Good morning team I hope you are all doing well today. A reminder that this week is all about distance, how many kms you can clock up before the sun sets on Sunday. Looking at the board today it’s Em Somerville out in front, but there’s not a lot in and you still have three days to go. The sun’s out at the mo people, get out there and get some fresh air. Massive hugs!

15.01.2022 Bulletproof coffee. Dower style. Enjoy.

14.01.2022 Good evening runners! My sincere apologies for not posting yesterday, life got in the way as it sometimes does. Last weeks challenge was all about distance and once again, the mighty Em Sommerville rose to the challenge and did the most amount of kms in our crew. For this weeks’ challenge, we are back to the hills, elevation is the name of the game. Running and walking count, so let’s see who can climb the most metres in between now and Sunday evening.... Have fun people and I’ll check back in the coming days.

14.01.2022 So proud of James, what an achievement!

13.01.2022 Greetings fitness enthusiasts! It looks like we should be back in action with regular group training come October 19th. In the meantime, if you want to shed that winter coat and start getting the body back on track we are offering a limited amount of 2:1 training sessions. PM me for details if you'd like to know more.

13.01.2022 A note on injuries.

11.01.2022 Perfect conditions for training this morning.

10.01.2022 Tough HiiT class this morning but the GTM legends are it up. #grouptrainingmelbourne #boxhill #boxhillfitness #cardiotraining #outdoortraining #grouptraining #healthandfitness #health #fitness #womenshealth #menshealth #fitnessboxhill #outdoorfitnessboxhill #hiit #running #boxhillgym #boxhillrun #boxhillfitness #runtraining #marathontraining #bootcamp

09.01.2022 Hey team Wow, there’s been some super-solid efforts out there in the field this week. Although, Julia sneaked in once again to take the number one position on the running leader board, this week’s challenge was open to cycling as well and Lisa Barrett absolutely blew everyone out of the water with six mighty efforts amassing 1,607m of elevation! Just brilliant. As we enter the next stage of this pesky lock-down business, I thought we’d kick things off with a repetition chal...lenge i.e. the most amount of runs that you can do in between tomorrow and next Sunday. Runs must be a minimum of 5km and I ask that you please obey the rules as laid out by the government. Come next Sunday, if we have a tie on the number of runs, overall distance will decide the winner. Best of luck, stay safe and give it heaps!

08.01.2022 Double WOW!!! Just going to leave this here for you all to contemplate. :)

08.01.2022 What a gorgeous morning for a great Stretch with Emily. #grouptrainingmelbourne #boxhill #boxhillfitness #cardiotraining #outdoortraining #grouptraining #healthandfitness #health #fitness #womenshealth #menshealth #fitnessboxhill #outdoorfitnessboxhill #hiit #running #boxhillgym #boxhillrun #boxhillfitness #runtraining #marathontraining #bootcamp

07.01.2022 Tough session this morning; alternating strength exercises with a 400m run. The group smashed it.

07.01.2022 GTM members kicking off Chrissy celebrations early after tonight’s strength class. Nice work team!

04.01.2022 Two days to go on this weeks' challenge and Em Somerville has jumped into the lead for the most attempts over 5km! The rain has stopped for the day in most areas so now's your chance to lace up, get our there and give it heaps.. for an hour! ;p

03.01.2022 Hey runners I hope all is well out there in iso-land. Last weeks' challenge was all about average pace and running to a set minimum distance; only two runners rose to the occasion which was Peter and myself: Name Total Ave Pace Runs Pete Wallbridge 11.20km 4.37 1... Simon Dower 22.80km 4.41 2 This week we will we return to 'distance' being the magic number to achieve, both walking and running count. So get out there, clock up some kms and soak up some sunshine.

03.01.2022 It was very humid this morning as the GTM runners lined up for some track work. #grouptrainingmelbourne #boxhill #boxhillfitness #cardiotraining #outdoortraining #grouptraining #healthandfitness #health #fitness #womenshealth #menshealth #fitnessboxhill #outdoorfitnessboxhill #hiit #running #boxhillgym #boxhillrun #boxhillfitness #runtraining #marathontraining #bootcamp

03.01.2022 Good article. I do what I do to boost my immune system, keep up with my kids, de-frag my brain from daily life and to inspire others to do the same. https://www.theage.com.au//midlife-crisis-gen-x-style-less

02.01.2022 Hey ISO-runners! I hope you are all doing just fine. My apologies for not posting last weeks’ results earlier, I’m blaming old age. ;p Pete seems to have broken isolation and went out and climbed a mountain; what a massive effort! I went and did just the one 10km run with loads of hills and only managed 150m so for him to do 507 over 4 is HUGE!! Bloody good effort man!... Since I am late to the party, we’ll just roll with regular distance on the leader board this week and I’ll come up with another fun challenge for next week when I am focused and not hung over. Peace

02.01.2022 Meanwhile at our online training sessions... *** MEMBER OF THE MONTH *** At the start of each month, us trainers put our heads together and reflect on who has really been putting in at the online training sessions for the previous month. We really take notice of you all; not just to correct your form and egg you on, but also to watch in amazement at how hard you work in an environment that in my opinion is not always so easy to work in.... As always, the trainers put forward their 3 or 4 star members for the month and in the end, I am absolutely thrilled to say that Box Hills’ very own Julie Constable has come out on top. Just like at our live park sessions (remember those?), Julie trains almost every day, gives 100% and is a fantastic ambassador for what we do. I applaud you J.C., well done. A fantastic effort all round team, we salute you all and are honoured to assist you with your health and fitness during these difficult times. Spring is here, change is a coming, keep smiling and be sure to greet all you run past on your travels. See more
