25.01.2022 One of the biggest companies in WA wants to get bigger

20.01.2022 ICE BERG'S in PORT HEDLAND That would make some headline. We would have the Environmentalists, The Greenies and the Global Warming Activists turn up on our doorstep. The tip of the iceberg revealed itself last week in the North West Times. BHP wants to compete with five/six West End coffee shops. By using it's financial clout to open up a Pop Up Barista Business. ... That would be OK if we had double or triple the population, or a tourism business in Port Hedland. But this is just seen as a way to attack and wipe out businesses in the commercial end of the Polluted West End. A better location more suitable for a Pop Up Coffee Shop would be on the TOPH $106 Million Marina Project on the Spoilbank (The Commodore of the PHYC) said we would welcome such a project to enhance the community facility near the Port Hedland Yacht Club. This is both an insensitive and stupid idea at a time when local coffee shops are struggling over the devastating effects on their bushiness by the COVID-19 pandemic. Staff losses and financial pressures are very top to mind as these local well supported small businesses are struggling for their lives. What next? Will BHP attach further Pop Ups? Mobile Dentistry Let’s put the current two West End practitioners out of business. The TOPH website carries a survey wanting to know what time would you visit the Coffee Pop Up? What type of coffee you would buy? No area to reply or question the stupidity of this idea. Maybe this is just a diversion tactic whilst BHP applies for a 40 Million Tonne open air expansion of their export Licence.???

20.01.2022 Congratulations to Maria for guessing the number of jellybeans, and thank you to the hundreds of people that signed our clean air and $1 per tonne petition at the Spinifex Spree!!

17.01.2022 THANK YOU THANK YOU. Phase one of our advertising has now been completed,Our adverts definitely raised the issues of DUST HEALTH & PROPERTY FRAUD. Those who contributed the cash again a big Thank You. Phase two is now well underway with the collection of names of those who have lived or worked in the polluted area anytime since 2010 when the State Government increased the permitted pollution levels for the West End.... BHP has had no comment on what they foresee for our future West End,so we have today emailed a formal request asking them to meet with our two Associations. Please email [email protected] or fill out one of the many flyers now circulating through town so that you and your family are on our Health Register. See more

16.01.2022 Buy Out Scheme Announced The Hon Alannah MacTiernan visited Port Hedland on Tuesday 30th of July, in which she made public at a meeting inside the Web Building in the presence of 50 to 60 local residents that a Buy back System will be imposed on the resource sector by the State Labour Party. The Minister took over 30 minutes to outline the process, commencing with the fact that West Australia Tax Payers should not have to pay for a industry caused problem, and that the fundi...ng for the buyout would be levied via the Port Improvement Rate, currently a fee the Port Authority collects at ten cents per tonne on exports and by increasing the rate to thirty or forty cents to cover the buyout, which is still to be negotiated with the Port Users. The points most emphasized by the Minister was that the buy out scheme would be a "Voluntary System" and would be based on the Wagerup Alumina Refinery report in which Alcoa agreed to pay the effected landowners a buyback scheme based on the: UNAFFECTED Market Value. PLUS 35% Premium of Unaffected Value. PLUS $7,000 towards relocation costs. See Report No.1 below. Report No.2 shows. The Town of Port Hedland on 1st of August announced that the "West End" had already in fact been signed over to the Western Australia Planning Commission, so the State has overridden the Council and residents and proceeded with the rezoning, hence the urgent announcement of the buy back scheme. Report No. 3 Below. The answers the Minister gave in Parliament only a week later departing from her announcement at the public Meeting. The Progress Association has offered to work with the State Government to ensure the roll out of the buy back scheme is fair and equitable to all Property Owners within the Buffer Zone. Area A to Taplin Street, Green area on Map. Area B to McGregor St, White area on Map. Any questions? Please contact us for assistance.

14.01.2022 HEDLANDERS CONGRATULATIONS The support you all gave the retirees in The Stevens Street Village, has had the desired effect.(See letter below) reprinted with the kind permission of Chris Whalley. The progress association was proud to do its little bit to stop the Town Of Port Hedland closing this village. In fact the former Kalgoolie Mayor Ron Yuryevich who had come to town to help the dysfunctional council, announced he would be recommending to The Dept Of Local Government a...nd the Minister David Templeman the dismissal of the council INCLUDING The Mayor sighting a lack of trust and respect as the causes. The Port Hedland Community Progress Assoc would like to thank Ron Yuryevich and we will be writing to The Minister in support of the dismissal. Meanwhile please await the announcement of a forthcoming "CLASS ACTION" for compensation to business and property owners in the proposed Improvement zone (Contaminated Buffer Zone) Now expanded to include the whole West End Down o Woolworths at The Boulevard Shopping center.

07.01.2022 CASH IS COMING IN Thank you all who have deposited funds into the "Class Action Account" the numbers of supporters are growing!! This weeks Newspaper advert below aims to announce that the "Health Risk Assessment" should be challenged as all the Dust Task Force recommendations relate back to the findings of this questionable report.... The other issue we are raising is to publicize that "The Port Hedland Industry Council" (PHIC) has for the last 6 years printed their daily exceedances of the 50 parts per cubic meter of the particulate matter size 10. We are calling on BHP to offer a "Voluntary Buy Out Scheme" and the State Governments to make sure it happens. P.S Dont forget to contribute to our fund.

02.01.2022 PORT HEDLAND CLASS ACTION GROUP

02.01.2022 Hello all, Sorry its been a long time between posts, but as BHPs response to our questions turned out to be a non-event, things have gone up a gear. We have been busy negotiating a voluntary buy back system, similar to the ALCOA deal done in Wagerup, in out South-West.... This week, the Minister Alannah McTiernan MLC announced that the voluntary buy back system would be in place by Christmas, for those Property Owners in the Green Highlighted Buffer Zone in West-End of Port Hedland. The notice below from the Town of Port Hedland yesterday confirms that the West End has in fact, already been signed over to the State Planning Department. Please read below and if there are any questions feel free to contact Jim from the Progress Association on 0413 433 063 or email at [email protected].
