16.01.2022 Healthy stress is necessary as any athlete or successful person will tell you a low to moderate stress level is required to help them get on top of their game. This is also true during workouts. If your muscles are not under some level of stress you won’t see any real results or gains. So in my perspective, healthy stress levels get us out of our comfort zones and into productive action. This to me is what I call managed stress and it is not harmful. Unhealthy levels of str...ess come from a lack of stress management and can really take a huge toll on energy levels negatively impacting mental and physical health. 04.01.2022 Holding Tension in Life-Giving Ways What’s your default attitude to feeling tension or stress in your life? Are your current responses to uncertainty, tension or stress life-giving, life-depleting or life-destroying?... How might learning to hold tension in more life-giving ways help you engage more fruitfully with the inevitable uncertainties and pressures of life and work? I find it useful to view myself as a ‘recovering control freak’ on a never-ending journey: learning to live with fluctuating levels of anxiety as I react or respond to the planned and unplanned events of life. Some years ago, the phrase ‘holding tension in life-giving ways’ from the Quaker educator, Parker Palmer, caught my attention. It was new language for me that I’ve been exploring ever since. While no silver bullet, it’s made a big difference: enabling me to live with myself and others with greater ease, enjoyment and compassion. 02.01.2022 Rejection can be a good thing The other day I was listening to a podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty titled Why Rejection Hurts. Having spent the past 18 months in career transition, a few things there that I could relate to! But found specific value in viewing rejection a little bit differently through a more positive lens and learning from our rejection experiences.... Three key takeways for me that I consider to be very relevant for me personally, and I think could be useful in some coaching conversations: 1. Rejection = Redirection You’ll get to where you want in life, perhaps just not the way you expected. Accept and embrace the fact that rejections, pushbacks, setbacks are ok they are part of our pathway to success. Challenges are just part of the journey of life. 2. Rejection is always Right It’s ok; you don’t want to find yourself in a place where you are not wanted anyway! Be actively curious about rejection; ask why? What can I learn from it? Failure is feedback. Treat it as a gift. Listen to it. 3.
