21.01.2022 Are you looking for a Support Coordinator? Here's some important things to consider when making your decision. 1. What experience does the coordinator have... If your utilising an organisation for coordination, be sure the ask about your allocated coordinator's experience. Every person is different and may require someone with specialist knowledge. 2. How can the coordinator help you utilise your funding. Asking this will give a clear indication of the coordinators experience and knowledge of both your disability and the and the NDIS in general. 3. How will you be charged. Every coordinator and organisation charges differently and in different increments. This can make a substantial difference in how far your funding will go. 4. Is the coordinator a sole-trader or organisation. Both have advantages and disadvantages so have a think about what will work best for you prior to the meeting. 5. Is your coordinator a registered provider. Both registered and unregistered providers can provide quality services but it's important to know this. If your chosen coordinator is not a registered provider, do they have the appropriate privacy policies and service continuation strategies in place to ensure you are protected. 6. Always read and understand the service agreement before signing. The service agreement protects you as much as the provider. It is a legal contract and should outline terms of service, travel fees, cancellation policy, line item that will be used including the cost and the hours of service being allocated. If all off these points aren't captured, you need to seriously consider the risk of signing the agreement and seek advice if you are unsure. This can be done by calling the NDIA, the Quality and Safeguarding Commision or by speaking with your coordinator (if the agreement is for an alternative service). **These tips can also be applied to selecting other providers.**
