22.01.2022 Deb Scammell from Lienerts with Joe Murdoch of North Cowie Ram Stud discussing Lamb Nutrition.
21.01.2022 Thanks to all that came along to our end of 2017 season BBQ and Bowls. A fantastic evening with great company, tasty snags, and mediocre bowling. Congratulations also to the lucky winners of the raffle that was drawn.
18.01.2022 CROP WATCH ALERT - On behalf of Jenny Davidson, SARDI Plant Pathologist PULSES Ascochyta blight changes in lentils Ascochyta blight lesions were observed on leaves of PBA HurricaneXT crops in the Mallala and Maitland regions in 2016. ... Ascochyta lentis isolates from these crops caused a susceptible reaction on PBA HurricaneXT lentils in controlled environment tests. Disease reactions were also observed on PBA Ace and PBA Bolt in the tests, although field reactions have not been confirmed on the latter two cultivars. In 2017 growers in these regions should manage these cultivars as a potentially higher risk for ascochyta blight. In particular thiram based seed dressing should be used and plans should be prepared for a fungicide spray during podding. Crops should then be monitored closely in case additional sprays are required during the season to control ascochyta blight. Ascochyta blight of chickpeas A reminder that all chickpea cultivars in the southern region are now moderately susceptible or susceptible to ascochyta blight. It is imperative that all chickpea seed is treated with a thiram based fungicide to prevent seed transmission of ascochyta blight onto the emerging seedlings in 2017. Moderately susceptible varieties will generally require 3 to 4 strategic fungicide sprays ahead of rain events offering 2 to 3 weeks protection, starting at 6 to 8 weeks post sowing. Susceptible varieties will require regular fungicide sprays every 2-3 weeks throughout the growing season in front of rainfall events. The disease can also survive on stubble and organic matter for a number of years so growers should observe a minimum of a three year rotation between chickpeas in the same paddock, and avoid planting adjacent to last year’s chickpea stubble. CMV and BYMV infection of pulse crops Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) and/or Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus (BYMV) severely infected some pulse crops in the northern Yorke Peninsula and mid and upper north regions during spring flights of aphids. Symptoms of yellowing and/or stunted plants were seen in chickpeas and lentils while symptoms in lupins i.e. blackened tillers and wilting plants, were mostly caused by BYMV. It is generally too late to spray for aphids once virus symptoms appear, especially for the non-persistently transmitted viruses such as CMV and BYMV. Seed should not be kept from infected crops as these viruses are seed transmitted. If seed is to be retained from infected or neighbouring crops then the grain should be tested for virus infection. 16.01.2022 Don’t waste the opportunity to drench stock into a clean stubble. Useful information here from ParaBoss.
13.01.2022 Important to keep in mind at this time of year. With the heat and moisture around fly strikes are a very real danger.
06.01.2022 Although we have seen a lot of grain peeled off so far this harvest, there is still plenty to reap. Enjoy the quick round view from high above Warooka. Music- Cool Party, Lights out.
