23.01.2022 Making the most of the few remaining Butternut Pumpkins from last Summer just as the new crops go in. I love the cyclical nature of the living world, it's solidity, it's reliability, it's flexibility. It provides a pretty decent foot-hold when the climb gets crazy. . #permaculturegarden #petmacultureprinciples #obtainayield #naturesclassroom #grounded #horticulturaltherapy #myhappyplace #veggiegarden #pumpkingrowing #permaculturedesigner #offgridliving #matesfordinner

20.01.2022 It's always a toss-up as to which we pine for most by the time Balalambar ~ season of the butterflies comes around in our introduced food garden on Gunditjmara country.... . The bountiful berry fruits which are devoured by the handful squatting alongside the bushes, or the exquisite Summer stonefruits which bekon like jewells both on the trees and later in our pantry as preserved bottles of saved-up sunshine. . I can't decide, but I do know that the benefits of eating seasona...lly are worth the wait. Enjoying our food at peak flavour and nutritional value. Reducing food miles. Cutting down on waste. The sheer joy of the anticipation. There's more I'm sure....but the berries are calling me What do you wait patiently for (or not) in your food gardens? ~Kirsty . #gunditjmaracountry #gunditjmaraseasons #swvictoria #permaculturefarm #permaculturefood #berrygarden #orchardfruit #seasonaleating #zerowastegoals #zerofoodmiles #enoughtoshare #fairshare #communitysufficiency #permacultureprinciples #permacultureaustraliaofficial

19.01.2022 Ngata and happy Wednesday folks What a fantastic breakthrough by @place_names_in_addresses this special NAIDOC week, announcing that after a LOT of long, hard work @auspost have 'taken the first important steps towards acknowledging traditional place names in Australian addresses'. Changes like these are groundbreaking and inspiring and we congratulate @place_names_in_addresses on this fabulous achievement. . If you're still unsure of the traditional owners of the land you ...are on, @aiatsis_ have a great map available which can get your research started. It's a very small first step, but we can't have the second, third and forth without the first, so it's an important one. Wurruk folks. . Ngata (Hello) and Wurruk (Goodbye) are from the language of the Gunditjmara people, the traditional owners of the land on which we live, work and play ~Kirsty . #naidocweek #naidoc2020 #permacultureethics #peoplecare #fairshare #unceededland #alwayswasalwayswillbe #smallandslowsouloutions #aiatsis #whoslandareyouon #gunditjmara #giraiwurrung See more

18.01.2022 Here we go! The season of permaculture principles 'catch and store energy' and 'obtain a yield' has arrived with a bang here on Gunditjmara country in SW Vic. . A wet, warm spring has been a catalyst for great growth and results in the food garden this year and this week is all about the herbs. . Here we're harvesting arm- fulls of Oregano for drying and squirelling, layer propagating the Thyme so we can divide and spread the plantings and collecting seed from the Corriande...r and Chives for next season's local climate hardy crops. . The period from now until April-ish sees a lot of the out-going year's work come back to us and the community we share with tenfold and in the most delicious ways possible. Worth it? You betcha. ~ Kirsty . #permacultureaustraliaofficial #permacultureprinciples #catchandstoreenergy #obtainayield #communitysufficiency #seedsaving #herbgarden #succesionplanting #pantrystaples #springgarden See more

16.01.2022 There is something pretty special about coaxing a plan from brain to paper then watching it fly off the page and out into the garden. . These pics of our (very new) mini food forest/suntrap garden were taken almost exactly 2 months apart. Everything in this space supports the neighbour beside it making maintenance a breeze and together as a group, they support a huge range of insects, birds, lizards and us through the provision of food, protection and habitat all while buil...ding beautiful, healthy soil (life). . Still in it's infancy, this space is already home to around 17 different species of edible trees and bushes, 5 types of berries around 20 different herbs, edible roots and tubers, a couple of edible vines and oh-so-many flowers AND it's all in a space the size of the average suburban verge! . Intererested to know more and have a space in SW Victoria? Get in touch today, your future food forest is waiting to meet you! ~ Kirsty . #permaculturegarden #permaculturedesignerswvic #foodforestgarden #permaculturedesigner #localbusiness3280 #swvictoria #ediblelandscapedesign #ediblelandscapedesigner #foodgarden #offgridliving See more

13.01.2022 These wee ones toddled off to their forever homes today There are so many ways this gig fills my bucket up.... . The mental stimulation that comes with design work.... The joy on the faces of new growers who perhaps never imagined they would be. The delicious, seasonal, wholesome food which fuels our bodies and minds. The sharing, connecting and interacting with so many fantastic humans and their communities. I can't choose a favourite, I'm not good at that, but I can tell you it's not work, none of it. It's pure joy ~ Kirsty #permaculturegarden #permaculturedesign #smallbusinessowner #supportlocalbusiness #loveyourwork #ediblegarden #ediblelandscaping

12.01.2022 The first of the 'shake off 2020 we're almost there' foraging trips, and it's for sweet, heady Elferflower . Used medicinally for boosting immunity and for food in juices and jams, it's a vigorous shrub which grows super easily from cutting and seed (if the birds have you left any). . Here we're whipping up our own version of sweet, delicious Elderflower cordial thanks to @spiralgarden for the super recipe in their fantastic Waste Free Living book. ... . The house smelled amazing everytime we lifted the lid on this baby and it's got us planning some much needed Summer catch-ups with all our favourite humans (and animals). It's cliche, I know, but the simple tasks really are bringing all the joy right now. . 11.01.2022 Join me for an hour of propagation play (and chat, lots of chat) at Port Fairy Community Garden. It's the first workshop in our Summer Garden Series and we'd love to see your fine faces there.

08.01.2022 The Comfrey is really coming into it's own now in our food garden now Yay! . Planted early Spring from small root cuttings, this little hero plant really punches above it's weight. Comfrey forms a dense clump making it tricky for the pasture grasses to encroach here, it attracts pollinators, makes fantastic compost and compost tea, provides excellent chop and drop mulch AND it's extensive tap root draws important nutrients from deep in the soil profile to a level accessible... to a whole host of other plants. It's such a winner we have it lapping our entire food garden boundary now and dotted throughout our food forest and get several collections of it's nutient packed leaves for use around the garden each season. I love it. . #perennialfoodgarden #permaculturegarden #stackingfunctions #permacultureprinciples #earthcare #composting #plantfood #herbgarden #comfrey See more

01.01.2022 I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this project. Community Gardens are just so super
