23.01.2022 We're building social skills one brick at a time with our LEGO Club school holiday program! LEGO Therapy is a play-based approach to encouraging the development of communication and social skills, using children’s natural interest in LEGO. Children are given specific jobs in the building task and work together to complete their goal of a finished model. They are: Engineer reads the instructions and gives directions to the others Parts supplier sorts through and finds... the right bricks for the builder Builder puts the bricks together according to the directions. Sessions are facilitated by therapist(s) with an understanding of working with children with ASD and/or developmental or social skills difficulties to help support skills such as sharing, turn-taking, collaboration, conflict resolution, and verbal and non-verbal communication. https://www.facebook.com/events/138517760944690 See more

22.01.2022 Looking for an inclusive school holiday program that's fun and educational? Our NDIS-eligible Clever Kids Camp is a multidisciplinary program for children aged 5-10. Families appreciate the small group setting, allowing their children to socialise while learning new skills in a play-based setting. At the end of each day, they receive a recap on their child’s individual development along with strategies the families can implement at home. Programs run in January 2021, but registrations close December 11, 2020 and fill up quickly - so don't miss out. https://www.facebook.com/events/825350481589387

18.01.2022 Let's PLAY with food! Play can be a powerful technique to help fussy eaters, encouraging positivity around food. Try these: Make a rainbow of colourful fruits or vegetables Find pictures of fruits and vegetables that children can colour in, cut out and stick, or draw. Use playdough to make your own fruits and vegetables. Trying using real fruits and vegetables in messy play too e.g. you can use potato shapes or dried peas when painting to create different effects.... Using your child’s favourite toy or game with food and role-playing e.g. teddy bear’s picnic, tea party with dolls (or dinosaurs!), and so on. See more

02.01.2022 Feeding therapists and kids LOVE food play! It is a creative and exciting (and often messy!) educational experience for children that teaches valuable information around what foods look, smell, feel and sound like in a totally fun and no-pressure way! It gives kids the chance to build positive associations with less familiar foods in a play setting, which helps them to feel more comfortable being around these foods at mealtime!

02.01.2022 And just like that... school is back! Children need foods that are rich in nutrients such as protein, healthy sources of fat, fibre and vitamin and minerals while drinking plenty of water. These nutrients will help to give children sustained energy. When these nutrients are removed (which is common in many processed foods and sugary drinks) the food is broken down quickly and causes a quick and short release of sugar and energy in the body, leading to a crash in energy. This crash will leave children feeling tired and unmotivated to learn at school. Here are our tips on helping make healthy lunchboxes easy.https://growingearlyminds.org.au/ti/healthy-lunchbox-ideas/
