23.01.2022 They’ve separated a father from his wife and son as a form of torture. Enough is enough. Please come to this snap action @4:30pm outside the prison.

23.01.2022 Another fresh harvest from the gardens that went straight the Moorooka Social Space to make meals for the community. We give weekly donations to this social enterprise hub that serves free food and drinks from Wednesday - Sunday. They run on donations and are always looking for more volunteers to help out in the kitchen

23.01.2022 Bullshit Statements from the Queensland Police Service Today This morning the Queensland Police Service held a press conference about our Mass Sit-in on the... Story Bridge #FreeTheKP120let’s correct some of their bullshit. We have intelligence that says a thousand people are attending and several thousand are interested. Translation: We read the public facebook event. We value human rights and we value lawful protests. The actions here are completely against both of those. Translation: We don’t give a shit about human rights. We frequently target people of colour, we kill Aboriginal people in custody and investigate ourselves and find ourselves not guilty, and we try our absolute best to uphold the illegal detention of 120 innocent people. We have done this by breaking up the blockade to retrieve stolen milk crates, violently assaulting community members, including several minors, unlawfully arresting key organisers so we can impose bail conditions that are later struck down in the high court, and we are actively doing everything in our power to prevent these protests from happening. When we say we value human rights, we really mean we value the bullshit right of the government to lock people up forever. Other members of the community have human rights as well and that includes their rights to go about their business and access the bridge. Translation: We value the human right to cross a bridge (???) above the right to not be forced to live in a cage. Get protests authorised, do it properly. Translation: Please go through a ridiculous bureaucratic process that lets us take you to court to try to stifle your protest. Yes, the right to peacefully assemble is enshrined in law in this state, but we’d prefer you ask our permission as well and waste your entire week in court. We’re idiots, so we believe the best way to protest the government’s human rights violations is to ask that same government permission to protest. There are other ways to get that message across and to protest. This is not the way. Translation: You’ve tried for seven years to free these people with petitions, letters to MPs, voting, human rights cases, and other ways that we find acceptable. They’re still locked up. But please keep doing the exact same thing and expecting a different result. We’re in a global pandemic. Translation: We think it’s a COVID risk for a few thousand socially-distanced people to stand up against a human rights violation, but a few hours later it is not a risk for ten thousand people to go to AFL at the Gabba just down the road. . The Facts about our Mass Sit-in on the Story Bridge #FreeTheKP120 - This will be a COVID-safe event, with social distancing, sanitizer, and masks, above and beyond the current health directive from the Chief Medical Officer. - Socially distanced protests are the only sensible response to the continued torture, negligence and deadly COVID risks that the Australian Government is subjecting these 120 innocent people to. - This will be a lawful protest under the peaceful assembly act. We have the right to peacefully assemble and march. We intend to do so. - We will be staging a sit-in and playing a game of soccer in the middle of the road. There will be safe places for people to stand who cannot or don’t want to risk arrest. Many people will sit on the road until a police officer taps them on the shoulder and directs them to move. Some people may refuse. - This sit-in doesn’t have to happen at all. Australian Border Force has the power to call it all off by giving our friends the free movement that is their human right. Let them outside to walk on the grass, see the cliffs, feel the rain on their face. Before our last rally, we had to watch our friends turn those big sevens into eights. We refuse to watch them change into nines. Sit with us in solidarity: Mass Sit-in on the Story Bridge #FreeTheKP120

19.01.2022 Growing Forward stands in solidarity with the Tilberoo and Fisher family as they demand justice for Aunty Sherry Tilberoo, a proud Birri Gubba woman who died in custody at the Brisbane City Watch house at age 49 last Thursday. Over 441 Blak lives have been taken since the 1991 Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. The insidious institutionalised racism exposed by yet another Indigenous death in custody is a symptom of the deeply unjust colonial system that cont...inues to kill people. We stand with the Tilberoo and Fisher family as they demand justice. J.U.S.T.I.C.E We know Aboriginal people have been fighting for over 251 years in the hope that the meaning behind that 7 letter word will become a reality. To this day the word remains empty, just another bunch of letters that can be used to emphasise how fundamentally flawed the system we have been indoctrinated with is. Justice remains impossible in a system that was birthed by massacres. A system that has spent hundreds of years denying life and oppressing First Nations People. This Friday we hope to see all of you at a candle lit vigil, followed by a march from King George Square to Musgrave Park: JUSTICE FOR AUNTY SHERRY Aunty Sherry Tilberro will be remembered as a a proud Birri Gubba woman who lived with love. Tomorrow, we say her name. #JusticeforAuntySherry #SayHerName #StopBlakDeathsInCustody #BlackLivesMatter #AboriginalLivesMatter

10.01.2022 Hey lovely gardeners. Today we turned the compost and created a new compost bay for people to continue dropping off their food scraps. The first and fourth bay are now sitting and curing for use. The third bay is for new food scraps to be dropped. Please use the drier compost in the second bay to cover the food scraps. Try and spread your compost out and cut it up into smaller pieces if you have full vegetables. This will allow the compost to break down better without gettin...g hot pockets which kill beneficial life. We can’t wait to fill the gardens with this tasty plant food for spring.

10.01.2022 Grow food. Give it away. Resist the state.

07.01.2022 Giving the garden a little TLC this morning. Some beds need to be planted out for the change in season so DM if you have any seeds/seedlings you want to donate. We will be having a working bee at the Kurilpa garden soon so stay tuned

07.01.2022 From urban farm to plate... in just five weeks, a Growing Forward garden can take unused public space and turn it into free food, improving food resiliency for the community. Our produce is now making its way to local organisations every week, providing free meals and enhancing community networks. We are powerful when we work together. [Pictured: a photo series showing the development of a Growing Forward urban farm, complete with harvest and finished with a photo of a cafe serving free meals at The Moorooka Social Space]
