22.01.2022 #eattherainbow #summerharvests

21.01.2022 I have borrowed Samin Nosrats book Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat from the library a couple of times now. It is a large, fascinating book (that I will ask Santa to bring me). But, I discovered she has a TV series on Netflix! You cant multitask whilst watching though, as it has subtitles for the various countries she visits. Oh but how marvellous to watch and drool...

21.01.2022 I still have a few items from our big declutter, for sale on Facebook Marketplace, for any local Canberrans who might be interested!

16.01.2022 UPDATE: the ladies have found a local loving and caring home to be rehomed to. So my husband and I have been discussing rehoming our chooks. Starting a new job last year and looking at increasing my hours soon, plus our busy life in general, we just dont have the time to be chicken keepers anymore. Its sad but if we can find a willing home to take and care for them, that would be a good outcome. Preferably somewhere close to Canberra so they dont have to be transported too... far. Our four pure breed chickens are tame, well mannered and good egg layers (still laying despite two being 6 & the other two are 7 years old). Two of them do go broody in summer but that is less frequent now. We would happily include their chook house and other gear (happy to explain more in a private message to anyone who is serious about rehoming the chickens). Do you know of any Canberra locals who would be interested? Someone who would be willing to give our lovely ladies a good home, who can come to pick them and their house etc up? Please send me a direct message. (If there are no takers, we will try local classifieds/ associations or schools, but thought Id offer here first). @ Australian Capital Territory See more

16.01.2022 Hi guys, after our big declutter, I have more items to sell to any local Canberrans who might be interested!

15.01.2022 Sugar snap peas #spring #springharvests #sugarsnappeas

14.01.2022 Spring is happening all over the garden! The first zucchini and beans are coming on. We are picking rocket, dwarf curly blue kale, spring onions, sugar snap peas and some herbs. Radishes and carrots are popping up. The Red Russian Kale has gone to seed but Ive been giving it to the chooks, as I pull the plants out. The thyme is going crazy in its pot in the greenhouse. More herb seedlings (basil, dill, coriander) have gone in. Dill and coriander I tried to plant in shady spots or they will bolt pretty quickly at this time of year. Some Vietnamese mint (that I over wintered in small jars of water on my kitchen windowsill) have taken off in the greenhouse. Loads of small tomato seedlings in my greenhouse I have no idea what I will do with those. Its all getting neglected most of the time! Oh well, such is life.

11.01.2022 The power of #chickenpoo Its amazing the difference in size comparing zucchini grown in our different wicking garden beds... the garden beds that has nothing grown in it all Winter and had the wood shavings and poo from the chicken nesting area just dumped in it... yep, those zucchini plants are now massive compared to the others. All the same size seedlings raised in my greenhouse, planted at the same time... but the Cocozelle already have baby zucchini on them, the others are still small and trying to grow. #zucchini #growyourownfood #chickenkeeping

10.01.2022 Woah there! You get busy and dont check the greenhouse for a few days and this happens. Zucchini, beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, dill, chives, basil seedlings are all germinating... some that dont seem to have germinated might need seed added BUT I think I actually have enough seedlings anyway (thats why I pot up extra!) #growyourownfood #greenhouse #canberra

10.01.2022 Lime blossom. Ive been very busy with my new job & life in general... but the garden goes on despite being mostly neglected! I have squeezed a few seedlings in. Check out the video I posted on my Facebook page for a Spring Garden Tour!

08.01.2022 Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I have decided to close the Growing Home Community Facebook group. Whilst I will still be posting on the Growing Home Instagram and Facebook pages (& hopefully getting more eGuides published at some point) I just wasnt able to engage and support the online group as much as I needed to. I am hopefully returning to work soon too, so will have less time to work on GH and consolidating my platforms is a better way to be able to have GH as a hobby. As a small online business, GH required capital, time and energy that I couldnt sustain when it was barely making any money. Thank you to those who have supported me! I will still be here... maybe Ill have time for fun stuff again like creating recipes from the garden!

08.01.2022 #harvest Cocozelle, Round and Black Beauty Zucchini, Plums, Green Beans, Purple King Beans, eggs, dill, basil and parsley.

07.01.2022 Double whammy... leaf curl and aphids on the peach tree! Its too late to do much about the fungal leaf curl this year, but spraying eco-oil on the aphids kills the little sap sucking pests! #gardenbattles #pests #annoying . Getting rid of garden pests without resorting to toxic chemicals is possible! In this mini eGuide I tell you how I do it! Its great value at $5. 06.01.2022 Its the most wonderful time of the year! Ive been enjoying the lovely weather before it gets too hot. The crazy blossom and dust blowing around isnt great, but Im mostly inside five days a week now, in my new job! I work part time though, so the afternoons I can walk by the lake with the kids, get back into exercise (though my knees are still crunching and grinding... Im seeing a physio this week), sort the garden and mostly, my brain is fried so I flop on the lounge and watch Schitts Creek! feeling really lucky and grateful even though its been a hectic start and a big change.

06.01.2022 I always find something to click on & read (or listen) to!

06.01.2022 The edible garden is in full swing this #summer, despite being fairly neglected. I am harvesting beans, zucchini, cucumbers, blueberries, spring onion greens, a few jalapeos, basil, parsley and other herbs. The tomatoes, plums, and spaghetti vegetables are on their way. There is some kale from Winter still but Ive also got herbs, rocket and mustard gone to seed, which I havent had time to pull up. The neglected #wickingbeds are going to have even more flat leaf parsley ove...rtaking them! A few varieties of beans have been nibbled or ruined and most of the apples have grub in them (we really seriously pruned the fruit trees this year to reduce the grub/ pest issues, we are not expecting to get any fruit this year, which is good as I dont have time to harvest or preserve it anyway). I dont envision I will be doing any preserving this season at all. I dont have time or inclination. My new job is requiring much of my time and brain space. Thank you so much to Alex, Karen, Ann-Maree, Georgi and Bec who replied with thanks and kind words to my last ever Growing Home newsletter on the 23rd. I hope everyones garden is thriving despite the heat and pests! See more
