20.01.2022 Do you have an excess of zucchini??? Chop it up and freeze it to throw in your smoothies. You can’t taste it, but it makes them nice and cold and creamy. I used to buy $9 bags of frozen mango for this purpose but no more!

14.01.2022 So, imagine it’s the school term where weeks go by and you just have your usual boring school classes. And then it dawns on you that the big, end of school exam is coming up and it’s weighted 100% pass/fail.... Well our day to day lives here on earth are the usual school classes and climate change is the big test. The quicker we move in preparing for the test the better we will go. So, do we choose to;- a) wait until the last minute, cram like hell and hope for the best? Or... B) start to methodically prepare to ensure we get good results? The reason we are all so anxious and uneasy is because society is currently choosing option a), and our psyches know that we should be going for option b). Let’s all start choosing option b) in every way we can. I’m not talking perfectionism, but if you have a choice in your everyday life, do your best to make it accountably. So for me, I’m trying to cut back on disposable nappies. I try not to buy highly processed and packaged food as much as I can. But I struggle in this with having small kids and not having much time. But, small steps right! And Sean and I are thinking of trying to go for a month in April of not shopping at any big chain stores. But I haven’t 100% committed just yet haha. But it’s a goal! Other things are - trying to buy food in bulk through my local co-op, trying to buy used clothes instead of new where possible, and trying to cut back on unnecessary consumerism. I want to try to make less purchases, and when I do buy something, try to make it something i can see myself having long-term. We grow as much food as I can manage from home. Hmmmm there are so many other little things you can do. The only limit is your imagination! There are also boarder aims, like stop deforestation, increase regional biodiversity, vote responsibly, divest from unethical organisations - literally the world is your oyster. You just need to get started! I’m keen to hear if you have any practical things you do towards making environmentally proactive choices!?

13.01.2022 What’s on your agenda for this Sunday? Are you, like me, going to do a shit tonne of boring house chores in an effort to prepare for the week ahead? Well! Throw on your headphones and listen to the ultimate trifecta of podcast episodes from Dumbo Feather which will leave you feeling inspired, revved up to make change and positive about creating a better future for the planet The first is episode #54 with Lisa Marchiano from @thisjungianlifepodcast who basically does a psy...chological analysis of how society functions currently, and raises some fucking important points on what we should be thinking about and how to direct our thoughts to make change. The second episode is #48 with Sarah Wilson @_sarahwilson_ She’s a powerful changemaker and sets us straight on the kind of humans and human action that’s going to be imperative, well, like right now, but also more and more in the future. It also raises some great points about how to recharge your batteries so you don’t burn out. The last episode is #44 with Peter Macfadyen of @flatpackdemocracy, former mayor of Frome in the UK. He was just a guy who saw that nothing was getting done politically in their town that was practical and helpful in terms of the changing climate situation and building local resiliency. So he basically overthrew the local council and make some amazing changes to the local community. Often the word politics immediately makes my mind turn off, but, this podcast is so interesting - seriously give it a listen! Anyway, after a night of listening to these podcasts I felt like I had to share and get others to listen - because they’re seriously important and inspiring Let me know your thoughts if you have a moment to tune into these today (or any time). Cheers! Sophie

08.01.2022 I’ve been feeling *fairly* overwhelmed over the last year or so about the state of the world. Some days I’m more hopeful than others. A big driver of my anxiety is my children. What does their future hold? I don’t think I’m alone with these feelings. There is a collective anxiety in everyone I talk to in some way or another. But in a way, I think this is because people realise that things are changing. The way society is functioning is not sustainable. People feel that they...Continue reading
