23.01.2022 Have you got an elf on your shelf? If you do this can be a great opportunity for children to work on prepositions and positional language in a fun and meaningf...ul way. All you need to do is ask your child to tell you 3 different places the elf might be hiding before they start to look around. Are they under the bed? Maybe they are in the toy box? Perhaps they are on the shelf? Or are they behind the lamp? The possibilities are endless so why not think outside the box and have some fun!

22.01.2022 Do you take your kids food shopping? If you can find a bit of time in your week for a smaller shop, get your kids involved with counting fruit, finding items on the store directory and comparing prices (your big weekly shop will take too long though ) - these are great life skills and great for literacy development. #speechpathology #speechtherapy #slpeeps #spaigers #fun #mums #baby #cute #communication #slpblogger #slpbloggers #slpblog #growtherapyservices #perth #kidsofperth #perthkids #perthspeechies

17.01.2022 Find out why home speech pathology sessions might be a better option for your family

16.01.2022 A recent study found that verbally engaging with babieslistening to their gurgles and coos and then responding, conversation-stylemay speed up their language development more than simply talking at them or around them:

10.01.2022 Have you been to the secret garden? We think this would be perfect for speech pathology sessions! #imagination #Repost @little.perth With all this rain, a morning spent exploring the Secret Garden is on the cards. Forecast tomorrow is cloudy but no showers. Yay!... Remember to pack gumboots, spare clothes and towels as there's going to be lots and LOTS of mud!

07.01.2022 Have you hear of @warriormail ?? Each month they select a local child warrior to receive letters - this would be a fantastic literacy activity for your children to do each month (especially adding the process of buying stamps and posting real snail mail!) #Repost @warriormail Beautiful pocket hearts for Jonte and Johnas, with a third generously included for their little sister! #pocketheart #diggers #1000hearts #handmadewithlove #handstitched #warriormail

04.01.2022 I am aiming for my daughter to speak both English and Italian and she is exposed to both every day. I would love to see bilingual classrooms in Perth, are there any that I just don't know about? (I.e. teaching in two languages!)

04.01.2022 Do you buy a real tree in your house? It is a fantastic family tradition to start and gives kids a fun piece of news to tell others. #Repost @overtheocean_com Family trip to Petaluma to get our christmas tree. 03.01.2022 As I sit here cuddling my baby, staring into her eyes and copying her facial expressions and gorgeous little newborn sounds, I am struck by just how early this ...whole imitation thing starts. Strong imitation skills are a precursor to good language skills. Children need to be able to engage in physical imitation before they can be expected to engage in verbal imitation. I love (love love) Laura Mize, so will link to her blog post on the process (ignore the sales pitch!) http://teachmetotalk.com//building-verbal-imitation-in-to/

02.01.2022 Phew so glad that doing what comes naturally has been given the nod of approval by research!!! "It turns out this exaggeration helps language development. When... mothers use more exaggerated vowels in baby talk their babies are better able to distinguish speech sounds. And exaggerated vowels help children acquire larger vocabularies." See more
