24.01.2022 Dear Families, I hope you are all well. I would like to provide an update on Grow With Me OT's plan to manage this difficult time with Covid-19 which is impacting on all of us. ... While final therapy sessions for the term had been planned to go ahead today, this will no longer be happening and all face-to-face sessions are now cancelled until further notice, following social distancing recommendations- all families directly impacted should have received email notification of this last night. During this time, sessions may be completed via telehealth to provide families with feedback on progress thus far, handover of strategies that families can begin to implement at home, and home-programs that parents can do with their children at home to continue to build their skills. While Covid-19 represents a significant health risk to the population, if you and your family are well and at home together, this presents an optimal time to focus on teaching your child new skills that may previously have been difficult due to time limitations. This is where telehealth OT can be very useful for guiding and upskilling you with activities you can use to build skills with your children. As these sessions will not incur a travel fee they will also be significantly cheaper and therefore can also be completed more frequently (ie. weekly), if families would like. More information on how these sessions will run will follow in coming weeks. Face-to-face sessions will hopefully resume again in term 2, pending the advice of government and health authorities, however, it is likely that health services will be delivered via Telehealth for at least the next 6 weeks -6 months. With this being said, as promised, Grow With Me OT is expanding in term 2 and new places have been made available for families to be taken on. Families on the wait list will be contacted over the next few weeks and initial parent sessions will be completed via a secure online platform (ie. Zoom or Coviu). If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to get in contact with me. And lastly, in this time of unknown, please take care of yourself and one another, and reach out for help should you need it. Keep safe. Kind regards, Naomi

24.01.2022 Seating posture is very important for all of our kiddos doing distance learning and tele-therapy! Families are often amazed at how much more they are able to get out of their child when they are appropriately supported at the table. Take a look at these pictures from SpeakEasy and have a look around your home for things you can use to improve you child’s seating posture and attention span!

23.01.2022 Oh how we have missed face to face therapy! Our first day back and our OT’s are covering Nyora, Loch, Korumburra, Koo Wee Rup and Wonthaggi today! We have our workers permits, COVID safe plans, face masks, hand sanitiser, antibacterial wipes and box of therapy goodies all packed and ready to go. It feels good to be back! We have missed seeing all of our awesome kiddies ‘in real life’. ... We are taking down names of families interested in starting up therapy term 1 next year as we have a new OT coming on board. Reach out by phone or email if you would like to put your name down before there is a waitlist.

17.01.2022 We are very excited to announce that with the easing of social distancing restrictions, Grow With Me OT will slowly be transitioning back to face to face sessions! Every precaution will be taken to ensure the health and safety of our families and therapists, and to ensure we are doing our part in preventing the spread of this horrible virus. We can't wait to see all of our beautiful kiddies in 'real life' again!

16.01.2022 Mr J’s request for his last session of the year was to build a truck. So that’s exactly what we did and in doing so reviewed the fine motor (cutting, drawing and threading) skills we have been building over the last 6 months. We then used our truck to drive our emotion cards to the different ‘Zones’ around the room and matched them with strategies he thought he could use to stimulate himself or calm himself down to get back to his ‘just right’ or ‘green zone’. How much fun is OT?!

13.01.2022 This was one of the fun telehealth activities that we completed last week with one of our primary school-aged kids. We learnt about the brain and its trillions of connections. The brain not only controls our movements and thoughts, but also our memories and emotions. It's all connected and serves a purpose- just like the web of our emotions dreamcatcher! This can be important to learn as kids move toward self-regulation and using strategies independently to calm their body and manage their anger or anxiety.

12.01.2022 And just like that we are done for another year! We would like to thank everyone for your support and flexibility through the craziness of 2020. We will be taking a much needed break between Dec 24th - Jan 18th so that we can come back refreshed and reinvigorated for an exciting 2021. As most of you know, Tamara is leaving us to pursue other adventures in 2021 and Naomi will be taking maternity leave in March so we are actively looking for OT's to join our team but do not a...nticipate any gap in therapy services at this stage. We will be in contact with families to confirm places for term 1 in late January, but for any urgent matters please email [email protected] which will be monitored intermittently. We sincerely hope everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing end of year break with your families and look forward to seeing you all in 2021!

AND we still have space available for new children to start in term 3 so if you haven’t already, get in contact or head to our website to register your interest! https://growwithmeot.com.au

05.01.2022 For parents looking for fun activities to keep the kids entertained, here are some beautiful Australian animal pictures to print out and colour in thanks to Muja Mundu Creations. These kinds of activities are great for building fine motor control and creativity .... and as an added bonus can pull kids away from their screens for a while. Parents can also use these sorts of activities as a mindfulness activity or just for some fun for themselves. We all need to remember to do some self-care and de-stress during this time of change and uncertainty so that we are functioning at our best and able to look after one another

05.01.2022 Tuning into Kids Online Course- Great FREE opportunity offer by EACH for any parents who would like some help understanding how they can better respond to their children and help them manage their emotions. 6 week course for parents with children aged 3-11 with a diagnosed disability. 04.01.2022 With Christmas just days away, many of us are winding up at work and the kids have finished school for 2019. This time of year should be full of joy, excitement and quality time spent with family. For some children, however, the change in routine, loud family gatherings and fireworks around New Years Eve can be stressful and difficult to cope with. This can result in increased irritability and meltdowns during the holiday break. The document below includes some tips to prepare your child for these changes and special occasions so that fun can be had by all. Have a very Merry Christmas everyone! I look forward to 'Growing' together in 2020.
