03.01.2022 Imagine waking up one day to find out that you can no longer hunt or fish. Doesn’t feel good right? As you may have heard by now the Animal Justice Party, Green...s and Labour party are pushing for a new Animal Welfare Act. One of the proposals is to replace the current Prevention of cruelty to Animals act 1993 (PoCTA) and remove the current exemptions for game hunting. Currently, game hunting undertaken in accordance with the Wildlife Act 1975, is exempt from cruelty provisions of PoCTA. This new bill is a push to have us all under one act and ban hunting & fishing for good. Part of their proposal is to recognise that all animals including fish are sentient beings. These are the same people who prefer to bait and poison animals because its more humane than what the hunter does. The same poison that goes on to kill the ants, the snails, the birds and so many more creatures, but they are concerned about feelings This is not about just hunting and fishing this bill includes horse racing, pony club, dog racing, farming and basically any interaction involving an animal. Victoria already possess a high standard of animal welfare with over 40 changes being made since 1986 to keep this act current, we don’t believe that there is any need for this change. We want to encourage everyone to have their opinion on this matter, a matter that will end our past times with the push of a button under the darkness of Covid-19. We want you to educate people and help them really understand what we do and why it is ethical. We have a diverse amount of knowledge between everyone in our community its time to put our heads together and take a stand. We’re not to forget we already have a great management for animal welfare under the Wildlife Act 1975 & the Fisheries Act 1995. They are management plans that we’re put in place to protect animals which is happily funded by the fisher or hunter yearly through game licensing, why, because we already care for animals. It also gives GMA & Fisheries the power to punish people who do the wrong thing, so why do we need change? Let’s use duck hunting as an example. How many of the 43 parties pushing to end duck hunting have done anything for the conservation of these animals? Field & Game Australia have funded numerous programs and not one of these groups could match up to the conservation records of F&G. So, who really does care for the animal? As a hunter & a fisher, it is important to understand how we fit into the greater scheme of conservation. Conservation is the ability to preserve biodiversity and the environment. It is about sustainability and balance. If hunting did not exist, we wouldn’t have the funding to protect not only our bush land but our animals. We are talking significant population control and putting food on the table. Do you really want that taken away from you? LINK BELOW: https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url
