21.01.2022 Winter has hit with a vengeance and everyone is thinking about what can be warming after a hard day's work, Have you tried smoked shank for soup?. it adds a superb flavour to any soup but particularly with vegetables and dried beans. My personal favourite has to be goulash in the winter. We have packets of diced beef( 1 to 1.5 Kg) and veal to make a large quantity- some to eat and some to freeze. it tastes even better after it has "sat' for a day. Use 2 onions, 2 cans of to...matoes and 4 large tablespoons of Ajvar and just simmer for until tender, usually 1.5 to 2 hours for 1500g of beef. You are probably wondering why it has been such a long time between posts. anyone who comes into the shop will see that i have lost the use of my right hand following a tendon repair. It's only temporary but 6 weeks is a long time for someone used to being active and able to do anything. My staff have been wonderful taking over all of the jobs that require 2 hands and I am learning to write with my left hand- not easy. Please say "hello" when you come in - my mouth still works! The next two weeks are always quiet so please note that retail hours will change and up until January 13 Monday to Friday the shop will close at 4 pm instead of 6 pm. Saturday closing will remain at 3 pm. Peter

13.01.2022 We have just restocked our shelves with some fantastic European goods including Polish biscuits, Hungarian canned foods, Thomy's mustard and many others. Have you tried the Hungarian Acacia Honey. This is really special! Look forward to seeing you soon.

09.01.2022 We have sourced some interesting products for the festive season from small gourmet companies in Australia, These include small Christmas puddings including gluten free, Alfajore soft biscuits which are wheat free and chocolate covered, Duck Creek chocolate macadamias and thin nut bread. Check these out when you come in.

07.01.2022 i am enjoying seeing so many new faces and so many old faces this holiday season and things continue to be frantic. Sorry that I don't have time to talk to everybody. We have been stocking up with gypsy hams and BBQ sausages as there never seem to be enough and my wonderful smallgoods manufacturing team needs a well deserved holiday. Our hams on the bone have just about disappeared so if you still need one you will have to order quickly.

06.01.2022 Today was ham labelling day- an enormous task to make sure that everyone who ordered a ham gets the right one. Don't ask me what time I needed to get up to do this before the shop opened, but it makes me confident that I am up to date with all the orders. There is only a limited supply of our delicious hams and at this stage 70% are gone, so get your orders in quickly if you don't want to miss out. We always sell out by Christmas eve and its only two weeks to go!

05.01.2022 The footy season is over and the the Dogs who really were underdogs have captured the flag. For those of us who are long suffering St Kilda supporters, maybe there is some hope for the future! It was good(and a little sad) to see a team with similar problems actually reach the AFL pinnacle. The end of the season, has us rapidly moving through the rest of the year and Christmas is closer than we think. Promotions have started and Christmas decorations are starting to appear i...n a few outlets. Christmas means hams and as always we are prepared and ready to start production so that our highly regarded, unique, double smoked hams are available for our customers. We can reserve one for you at any time over the next 2 months on a deposit. You just need to call or email with your details to ensure you don't miss out as they always disappear before Christmas eve. Of course if you require any other Christmas poultry or meats, we can have these for you as well. For those of you having BBQs at the end of the year, it can be wise to order your BBQ sausages as no matter how many we make, we never seem to have enough. We are newly stocked up with a wide variety of fresh cheeses and our new cheese cutter is working overtime! I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon. Peter

02.01.2022 I hope that 6 weeks or so after Christmas, you might be ready to eat ham again. We have a SUPER-SPECIAL on baby Gypsy hams until they run out at $19.90 per kg. These are made on-site in our production room from genuine Australian pork. Cheers Peter

02.01.2022 You may be wondering why Gruner hams were not featured in yesterday's good food guide in The Age as they have been over many years, This year was a a taste test review and firstly they didn't ask us but secondly there would have been nothing for them to taste! Next week we begin the process of cooking our fabulous double smoked hams so that they will be ready in time for you to pick up before Christmas. Orders are coming in and we only have a limited number so make sure you ...order yours soon so you don't miss out. 01.01.2022 Come in for our beef ribs ready for making superjuicy oven cooked ribs in 80 mins. The ribs are covered in our special rub, ready to be wrapped in foil and baked at 200 degrees for one hour. The unwrap and smother in any one of the our BBQ sauces and cook unwrapped at 180 degrees for another 20 minutes. Absolutely delicious!!
